they are both shitIt’s even worse than Windows 10, just debloat 10 or install Linux
i installed linux once on my old laptop just for normal use not even gaming and i have never used or seen a more shit OS and even shitter community in my life i tried manjaro which was decent mint which looked like ass but was once again alright and then the fucking worst of them all ubuntu never more have i seen a more shit distro of linux in my fucking life and for some reason people still use that dogshit distroTo all the people suggesting me to either debloat 10 or get LTSC, I already debloated Windows 10. I also disabled the update center because I didn't want it to brick my computer. I will consider LTSC if I'm building a new gaming PC from scratch, so thanks for the suggestion.
Holy shit I'm going to get so much shit for it.
To all the people suggesting me Linux, I already have a dualboot, but I'm still going to stick with Windows. Linux is a convoluted shitstain that is so obtusely designed that I can't understand why would anyone use it on the daily basis. Everything on Linux is done via the Terminal and yes I said EVERYTHING, imagine if I had to change my computer's settings using command prompt or install literally anything via command prompt.
Every OS related to Linux suffers from an extreme unfriendly user experience because of that above and the dependencies, yes even the "user-friendly" OSes like Ubuntu. Although you can allegedly play Windows games on Linux I have never fucking figured out how to install Wine, it just won't work.
Also putting aside the stupid UX of Linux, it has its lots of problems, both internal and external:
And that's just on this website, on other sites I've seen plenty more of criticism against Linux.
https://medium.com/@ICTman1076/yeah-linux-sucks-but-the-alternatives-are-worse-fad3357908dc (The dude who wrote this literally hates Windows and he still agrees that Linux sucks)
Hell even the Macintosh is easier to deal with than Linux, it's obvious why so I won't get into that topic. Only problem is that Mac is overexpensive for no good reason, fuck Apple for their vanity garbage, I'd buy a SUPREME brick before I'd buy a Macintosh.
Though the operating system that is objectively superior in every way to Windows/Linux/Mac is Temple OS.
When you've used Linux long enough, it does everything you want it to, and unlike windows; it's obedient.blah blah blah linux blah user experience blah blah blah
At least windows and Mac OS actually work lmao. I used Linux for 1 year and trust me it doesn't get better its just a false coping mechanism to lock Linux people into a false sense of thinking their OS is the best and nothing can compare. I'm not saying windows is the best but Linux is overrated as fuck windows spys on you and mac is overpriced but they all are unique and have ups and downs. When you've used Linux long enough, it does everything you want it to, and unlike windows; it's obedient.
Git gud.
You mean install Arch from a guide as your first distro because your mom was shocked at your ability to search Googles in the 2000s, so you must be good at computering, then complain that Linux doesn't work and it's in fact a lie that everyone that uses it spreads because they're poor and contrarian? How I would setup Linux for windows normies:
1. Just install any distro with KDE Plasma and a good installer.
2. Get every package you want with the letter k in it from package manager. Don't fucking install anything with the word GNOME in it. Don't install things with a ton of dependencies.
3. Install your browser of choice
4. Install steam for vidya
5. Never touch the console
6. Comfy Linux daily driver from this point on.

7. (Optional) Rice it to your liking
I feel like Ubuntu gives Linux a bad first impression.
I mean steam is kinda take it or leave it on Linux sure proton exists but it still is Buggy. for normal use Linux is semi decent depending on the distro thoughHow I would setup Linux for windows normies:

Linux is to OS' what Blender is to 3D modelling. Every time a shitty version of Windows comes out, all the Linux fanboys rush in to proclaim that Linux is good now and all the difficulties using it have been fixed, only for people to find that not to be the case once you scratch the new shiny surface of whatever distro is popular right now.You mean install Arch from a guide as your first distro because your mom was shocked at your ability to search Googles in the 2000s, so you must be good at computering, then complain that Linux doesn't work and it's in fact a lie that everyone that uses it spreads because they're poor and contrarian?
never claimed i was good at computing once and i never said all of linux is shit just specific distros and also thats the other thing is the so called "linux masterrace" can't take criticisms to their "god tier" OS so heres some reasons why some distros are shitYou mean install Arch from a guide as your first distro because your mom was shocked at your ability to search Googles in the 2000s, so you must be good at computering, then complain that Linux doesn't work and it's in fact a lie that everyone that uses it spreads because they're poor and contrarian?
I'm willing to take criticisms, but note how tinged with frustration everyone that complains about Linux is, claiming it's "shit and broken" and then acting like people are just compromising when they use it. It has issues, but far, far less than Windows. This idea that things "just work" on Windows only stands for current releases. They're breaking 32bit support as we speak and people are hacking together workarounds... just like with Linux, except it's easier on Linux at this point. Windows is on the backslide. Within the decade, it's going to be a completely different, proprietary monster with even less control than it already offers.never claimed i was good at computing once and i never said all of linux is shit just specific distros and also thats the other thing is the so called "linux masterrace" can't take criticisms to their "god tier" OS so heres some reasons why some distros are shit
Not all distros have wi-fi drivers that work out of the box and wi-fi drivers that do work out of the box don't always work well
PulseAudio is still broken
Not all websites/software will support it this is really bad if you use it for office/school work because your "OS isn't supported"
Proprietary software doesn't work on Linux and no i am not going to spend 3 hours to configure wine just to use fucking office or photoshop
Almost all of the free software Linux uses can run in Windows without having to use an emulator
Every attempt at shipping Linux laptops has failed because the drivers are still fucking ass
Most distros are irrelevant and most of the ones that everyone simps for suck ass like ubuntu
and the community is probably the most fucking cancer shit i have ever seen
and even if your WIFI does work ive noticed that it is alot slower than on windows on windows i get about 60mbps a second and on linux its more around 20 to 15 ish
notice all this could be avoided by using windows or macos (not saying they are still good)
ubuntu has been in development for 20 years and still doesn't have basic drivers that any modern OS has out of box let that sink in.
Never claimed it was shit and broken, I said it had an awful UX and that's an undeniable fact, period. Name me a single thing you can't do on Windows without the command prompt. I can say already that I can name you 5 things you need the terminal for on Ubuntu or Debian.I'm willing to take criticisms, but note how tinged with frustration everyone that complains about Linux is, claiming it's "shit and broken" and then acting like people are just compromising when they use it.
How about you don't upgrade to shittier versions of Windows? Win 7 was peak Windows and I wish I could just go back there. This idea that things "just work" on Windows only stands for current releases. They're breaking 32bit support as we speak and people are hacking together workarounds... just like with Linux, except it's easier on Linux at this point. Windows is on the backslide. It does work, but it eats away at my life just trying to figure out how to use it more than it did with Windows the first time around and I was like fucking 6 or 7 on my parents' Windows XP.Acting like Linux just doesn't work is literally always a user problem. Even Arch is so heavily documented anyone with basic skills in following directions could use it if they really, really wanted to.
It probably was, old OSes are always broken in a way or another, don't you remember of the scandal with Windows Vista or Windows ME?I was put off of Linux for 15 years after my first use back around 2005~ or so, and kept on just listening to everyone spout how shitty and broken it is.
LOL "inferior", Linux can't even keep up with newer technology. If Windows is inferior then Linux is archaic, thus they are both shit, but I'd still go for an OS that's easier to use than otherwise.I don't care if people want to use Windows forever, but it's an inferior experience in almost every way at this point for my day to day use, and honestly, the only games that I haven't gotten to work quickly are insanely specific and can easily be dual booted for.
I can't play Elden Ring on Linux even if I wanted to, like I said I can't figure out how to install Wine despite my best efforts. Two weeks it took for me to give up.Elden Ring worked day 1, and within 12 hours of launch it had online. I know, Marvin's Mittens is still borked, but we'll get there one day.
Linux may not be as bloated as current Windows, but it certainly isn't as convenient. Debloating Windows takes a single day or 2 minutes if you're going to go the easy way out and use a script you stole somewhere. As for Linux, it took me wasted weeks just to try to do anything out of the box and eventually I just said "aye fuck it" and like 4/5 times I boot up in Windows to do my usual stuff, only sometimes I boot up Linux for specialised stuff like software modifications and game development when I want to test out if a game runs fine on Linux, even then I believe that all this stuff could be done on Windows. That's fine, but don't bitch about Windows and try to hack together some "debloated" version when it literally already exists.
Drivers are an ass regardless of OS, but I'm going to trust that proprietary software from the makers of the hardware in question should always work better than the open source counterpart. I've heard horror stories about AMD and NVIDIA not running properly on Linux, the general consensus is that only Intel computers seem to work optimally on Linux in 2022.I don't see how people could even fuck up something like Manjaro Stable. If Windows is good enough, there's no reason Manjaro+KDE wouldn't be. That's what I started on and my soundcard worked without hassle, something that I couldn't even say for Windows.
Run Windows 7, there I fixed Windows for you.tl;dr just stick with Windows but expect Windows with Windows because you can't fix what Windows is and always will be.
Kiwi & Cow said:Package files (.TAR.GZ/.DEB) require the terminal while all it takes to install package files on windows (.MSI) is to double click them.
gdebi
is what you're looking for on Debian-based systems, though nobody will tell you this. It's not perfect, but close enough to "Click this package to install, and you know what I mean by install".I got filtered late last year when I built out a new desktop and installed Linux Mint, and then burned 5 hours of the last, precious bits of my ever-fleeting youth on trying to figure out why Grub just won't work, only to eventually discover that it's because my monitor is connected to an Nvidia card over Displayport and it's just a known issue with no solution, and there's nothing I can doActing like Linux just doesn't work is literally always a user problem. Called it earlier...I got filtered late last year when I built out a new desktop and installed Linux Mint, and then burned 5 hours of the last, precious bits of my ever-fleeting youth on trying to figure out why Grub just won't work, only to eventually discover that it's because my monitor is connected to an Nvidia card over Displayport and it's just a known issue with no solution, and there's nothing I can do
so then I sighed and wiped my drive and installed Windows 10 with a local account, immediately ran anti-telemetry software before taking it online, and it's worked well enough for me
still liked Mint better than MacOS though
Linux only works out of the box for Intelfags confirmed.I've heard horror stories about AMD and NVIDIA not running properly on Linux
