Well...no, because if it was just "the availability of shitty foods and a lack of self control or motivation" than there would be just as many obese rich people as poor. The rich would have even more access to the shitty foods and more money to buy it and there are just as many unmotivated/lacking in self control rich people as poor people.

Logically, there has to be something else going on.
I've got a few points of conjecture here, first is that a significant amount of obese people get that way from comfort eating, poors are typically gonna have more stress and be more likely to seek comfort from food.

Second is that rich people can afford hire people to whip them into shape both physically and mentally, like trainers and therapists and shit.

Third, if the rich people in question are new money we can assume they already have sufficient motivation and self-control because they wouldn't have become rich otherwise.

Again though this is just conjecture, I don't have numbers on this.

Is because evil capitalism forces people to eat cheesecake all three meals , mandated by law, even when they have full aisles of cheaper healthier alternatives. We know there is a very strong correlation between communist economic systems and people loosing weight super fast.

There is some healthy, tasty Mexican food out there, but it sure as fuck isn't what people think of when you say "Mexican food". e.g. Aguachile (ceviche's sexy sister), fish-on-a-stick, chili-citrus-shrimp, and "Random ocean shit we put seasonings on".

Ingest things that aid in the burning of fat (eggs, coffee and tea, salmon, etc.) Don't take fish oil or any other scam supplements unless you are directed to by a nutritionist or your doctor. Do not do cardio with the expectation that you will burn fat. You will burn calories, not fat. Engage in exercises that engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously. This gives you a better chance to burn fat.

You can eat pizza and drink soda, but do so sparingly. Not posting on this forum would probably help, too.

When you're coming home from an eight to ten hour day at work, it's a lot harder to prepare a meal once you get home. Sure, you could meal prep over the weekend...but that's assuming
  • that you even have a proper "weekend"
  • that you have the time after you've taken care of everything else you have to do on your days off
  • that you have the physical and emotional energy to meal prep
  • that you have access to affordable and health-optimal grocery stores in the first place
capitalism is inherently oppressive to the working class, and this is one of many reasons why. You might think it's easier and cheaper to buy and prepare food yourself, but the statistics simply do not line up with that reality. Obesity and poverty go hand-in-hand.

Bitch I have spent the past two years working a job that for months at a time was 12-16 hours 6 days a week and I never ate like shit. I had self control while in the grocery store and sitting in line for fast food was luxury I was too busy for. I have been across the country and back and I been able to find the same basic foods that I eat everywhere. There's no more prep involved in eating them than eating anything else, and yes, I found the time to cook on my day off.
 
The simple and obnoxious answer is overeating. But the reasons for the overeating? I think essentially it's a lack of will power and self-discipline and an inability to self-soothe. I think there can be complicating factors such as abuse, mental health issues, food desserts, poor knowledge of health and nutrition, habit, the food you are raised on, your cultural attitudes to food etc, but at the heart of it, is a simple inability to say no to food.

The stereotype of a fat person being greedy and lacking discipline exists for a reason, in order to eat yourself into fatness you have to care more about food than exercising, health, taking up other hobbies or the wellbeing of your family. You are putting a strain on family members and loved ones to drive you around, fetch things for you or care for you. Despite the opposite stereotype of the jolly fat man, becoming fat is always a selfish behaviour.

Might be unpopular opinion but I think the shit additives in foods make it extremely hard to have "willpower."
It's really, really hard to have "willpower" when eating garbage, processed foods with added sugar/fake sugar, especially anything marketed as a diet food. They always leave you craving more.
Homemade food where you control the ingredients is so much better of a diet. I know people always point to simply sara as an exception, but she's still dumping processed ingredients and sugar into the foods which is the stuff that makes it addicting. Sure, you can lose weight eating processed food. But you're setting yourself up for failure.
