Cygnus was one of those small channels I rooted for more viewers. Too sad he is a troon now. To be honest, he showed signs of depression in his last videos, where he didn't have the same energy as before.
i know what you mean. I forget what IUPG one it was (it wasn't scripted, but off the cuff), but he sounded mad depressed.

he then went back to scripted IUPG's (claimed he wasn't depressed)...then said he'd start doing less scripted reviews, finally burning out and here we are.
Least he was apart of some peak autistic fun before the troon out

(1:03:00-1:03:30)

He tried to reach out to Kyle and tried to get in touch with him, and just assumed he was just busy. That's it. No mention of a response from him or anything. It's either Kyle just so happened to be very very busy, or Kyle is staying away from Cinemassacre and cutting all ties. Even if it's true that Kyle is really busy, it still won't affect the possibility that Kyle is staying away as there's no mention at all from James about how he and Kyle even kept in touch even after 4-5 years ever since Kyle appeared in any Cinemassacre-related video. I'm obviously not saying Kyle should appear in every single AVGN video there was, my point is if Kyle doesn't even want to keep in touch with James and they met each other since college, something is terribly wrong.

Meanwhile......

Still looking for proof of Kyle “cutting ties.”
It’s been stated multiple times that the reason he’s not around is because he stopped to focus fully on his construction business and his 4 kids.
That picture is almost a year old too. Idk why people obsess over Bootsy so much anyway. I liked him but people worship the ground he walks on.

Its literally in the video, James tried to contact Kyle, and he ghosted him complete. On the other hand when bootsy tries to contact Kyle he actually gets a response. Might take a few days, because shit happens but he still gets the response.

As for bootsy being obsessed over? Dude was an amazing part of the channel. He was the funniest part of board James, and no one could have replaced his character IMO. he was popular, and right when people were really loving him, he suddenly went away. So yeah people having questions is normal.

I'm gonna repeat this once again. It's either:
  • He's too busy in his job that he couldn't even respond to James, and it doesn't even take a minute to even reply with "Sorry, I'm busy, I can't help". You have to keep in mind that the Vegas Stakes episode was in production for like a year.
    1640224753007.png
  • Kyle decided to ghost him.
This is Kyle whom James met since college, mind you, and they met for over a decade. If there's nothing from James at all which even suggests that they still kept in touch from time to time, what does that even tell you?

Idk why people obsess over Bootsy so much anyway. I liked him but people worship the ground he walks on.
I'll agree that the Bootsy worship is a bit too much, but even as such Bootsy was someone James met since college as well, and he helped in some of the Board James episodes. When there's news that he left Cinemassacre, there's tons of warning flags right there and once again we're talking about someone's friend since college, not some colleague.

Ok so is there genuinely something wrong with me that as someone who has been watching AVGN since 2006, I’m not coming to the same conclusions that you guys and the smooth brains on Reddit are?
I’ve noticed the dip in quality sure, but I genuinely find most of the late 2017-present episodes enjoyable.

Like I said, maybe there’s something wrong with me.

Read the thread and find these things out for yourself or fuck off you multi-posting nigger. I hate when retards come into discussion threads and begin loudly announcing how they have contrary opinions to everybody here and demand that we explain shit to them with Wikipedia-style sourcing. Nobody cares what you think. If you like James, that's fine. Obviously a lot of people do. This thread is discussing him as a lolcow and has amassed 182 pages of such content. Read it and formulate your own opinion.

Not a single person here "worships the ground" that Bootsy walks on and you're genuinely retarded if you think that's the case. He's a person people liked, got abused/underpaid and now refuses to collaborate with James anymore. That's worth mentioning and is about the extent that anybody cares. It's an easy example to point to when it comes to James not respecting his friends and the downward trend of the content.

By the way if you post multiple times in a row you look like a faggot. Just edit your last post to include the information the next post would have so that at least you contain your shit to one single post I can ignore.

Maybe.

All of what you’re saying is subjective. What isn’t subjective is the hero worship people have for Bootsy. Like I said before, I enjoyed Bootsy and I don’t like that his departure was in bad terms, but he wasn’t as critical to the channel as people pretend he was.

I'll just give you a rundown about my opinions about the AVGN episodes, these are based on first watches.
  • Season 11 (2017, Power Rangers - Lightspan Adventures): The post-Sega Activator season. Some are great like "Power Rangers" and "Game Boy Accessories", some are forgettable. It's still fine.
  • Season 12 (2018, Earthbound - Home Alone Games): Slightly worse than Season 11, but still has some memorable episodes such as "Earthbound" and to an extent, "Amiga CD32" and "The Town with No Name". Still not really having any noticeable warning signs there for me.
  • Season 13 (2019, Chronologically Confused about Kingdom Hearts - Majora's Mask): Slightly worse than Season 12. There's still some fine ones but still debatable like "Majora's Mask", "Pepsiman", and "Video Game Magazines", but still largely forgettable. This is probably at this point where there's some warning signs there for me especially with some of the bad ones like "Life of Black Tiger" and "The Immortal". Even to this day, I still haven't watched the "Kingdom Hearts" one but maybe that's for the best unless I decided to watch every single AVGN episode and rank them all.
  • Season 14 (2020, Raid 2020 - Bartman Meets Radioactive Man): And this is where for me AVGN gets really underwhelming. The only fine ones for me are just maybe "The Incredible Crash Dummies" and "Taito Legends", but it's still even more forgettable.
  • Season 15 (2021, Shrek Fairy Tale Breakdown - LJN): With Mike Matei gone from Cinemassacre, even as such I actually personally think this is slightly better compared with last season with at least one good episode ("Commodore 64"), but it's a mixed bag there's some episodes which I considered to be the worst ("Sega Game Gear VHS Tapes", "Carmageddon 64", etc.)
There is a noticeable dip in quality, but I'm not talking something like "the quality is dropping but still watchable, just meh" like how some people call modern Simpsons is as that, we're talking "the quality is dropping and you can clearly see the team is mostly not in the mood anymore and just for the paycheck".

He's a person people liked, got abused/underpaid and now refuses to collaborate with James anymore.
Just a really small clarification, even though Bootsy did not get paid for some aspects, he did explain that it's not one of the major concerns he had, but rather more towards the long-standing concerns he had to the point it got extremely personal. No one except Bootsy himself even knew what was actually going on behind the scenes.

Also although this thread is moved from Multimedia, some people here generally agree he still hasn't reached cow status yet, which is 100% perfectly fine and even I still don't think so (which is why this thread is in "Internet Famous" rather than "Lolcow"), majority of the first few pages of the thread aren't even discussing him as a lolcow but more towards an Internet celebrity, and still stands to this day.

I’ll do as I wish you Reddit subhuman. Scum like you deserve to be shot.

Maybe if you weren’t such a smooth brained moron that thinks he’s cool because he calls people faggot and nigger you’d realize I never said anyone here worshipped Bootsy. You probably do since you’re clearly from that cesspool.

Go drink a bottle of Drano.

I kinda like Revolution X (only the arcade version) its repetitive and hard as fuck (specifically getting all members) but killing those NON members with flaming laserdiscs is always fun imo.

Also, the SNES version sounds good because its soundtable is very similar to the original arcade version.
Yeah, that game looked and sounded really technically impressive for a SNES game, though I know it was a late-gen one. That said, I played the arcade game back in the day and don't remember it having been much fun, so I doubt the port was either. But I still kinda want to see more of it just to see what tricks they managed to get that hardware to do.

Was it not compatible with the SNES's light gun? I imagine that'd be a much more fun way to play than dragging a cursor around the screen with the D-pad.

All of what you said are valid criticisms. I like some of the episodes you like, and don’t care for some of the episodes you liked.
I wish more of the people on the Reddit were like you. The place used to be much better but it really devolved into a hellhole.

That episode was pretty good. He could have gone into a tiny bit more detail, but if you don't know anything about the chronology of Kingdom Hearts it gets the job done.

I would say that pretty much everything up through first half of 2020 was still good. Some of the later post-movie stuff had a tiny bit different style to them compared to his old episodes, but he was still doing a good job with everything.

Honestly I mostly agree, I always felt like it was generally on a slight decline but most all of them were still well-produced and fun to watch - up until the Earthbound episode. That one was absolutely fantastic and felt like a sendoff from James as the series almost immediately crashed into a ditch afterwards when the slobs took more direct control of everything. I honestly find AVGN really hard to watch now.

I'm gonna share my opinions about your opinions:
  • Game Boy Accessories was ruined at the end with James screaming "I WANNA BE SEDATED WITH A GAME BOY!!!" over and over and over and over
  • Chronologically Confused about Kingdom Hearts was actually good, on par with the other Chronologically Confused episodes, but it was clearly made to capitalize on the at-the-time recent release of Kingdom Hearts 3. That's a series that's perfectly fit for the Chronologically Confused format, anyway, and they did a good job of showcasing what a ridiculous series its been to try and follow over the years. It's worth watching.
  • Pepsiman wasn't great but I appreciated how they got the actor from the game to reprise his role
  • Majora's Mask was pretty good
  • Everything else you said, I agree with
But here's CCAKH, timestamped past the ad:

Nah... there is nothing wrong with you. It is quite obviously something wrong with everybody else. AVGN isn't as good as it used to be. James quite obviously isn't as invested as he was 17 years ago. These are things that I think most rational people can observe and recognize.

The problems start to creep up with the reactions. Some people realize that Season 17 isn't going to be as fresh or energetic as Season 3 but still find enough enjoyment to keep watching. Some people go totally balls deep apeshit with nonsense like "HE SHOULD JUST QUIT IF HE CAN'T MAINTAIN CONSTANT QUALITY!!!".

I mean, it's laughable on it's face... that any content creator can stay even relatively consistent for 15-20 years.... but whatever.... the internet is both the best thing and the worst thing that's ever happened to humanity.

Seems apparently AVGN is gonna continue which is unsurprising.

They should really stop doing these modernized thumbnails. Since this happened after Fatwave arrived, I'm betting this was Justin's idea.
Unfortunately they're doing it because of YouTube algorithm.
