I feel a more interesting take on the AVGN would be as follows

Nerd is still the Nerd. His adventures still happened, but they're still webcast.

Evil military cripple sees that the military recruitment rates are down and gets livid. He begins to demand to know why, learns of the AVGN and him being able to make shitty old retro games. Decides he wants to harness that power.

Cut to nerd and Mike as they learn of the ET landfill. They decide they should review the fans biggest requested game and schedule schedule road trip, stopping at a few locations.

Eventually cripple mctank kidnaps the nerd for messing with ET and explains that it was a secret test to recruit the best of the best, like the Sword quest contests from the old magazines. This massive failure caused ET to be buried and cripple to hate videogames.

He then shows nerd a new call of duty clone and demands that nerd give it a sparkling review, which in turn will boost army recruitment.

Final showdown.

ET review.

Bam. I made a better and more true AVGN movie.
I still think a true AVGN movie would've worked if it was disguised as a typical review of ET until 10 minutes in when things start to escalate and then gets teleported into the bottom New Mexico burial, being buried alive with the hundreds of thousands of old, original Atari 2600 copies of ET.

There are a lot of directions to take an AVGN movie. Assuming the only stipulation is that it has to have some reference to the Atari E.T. game then you could do almost anything. I like the idea of doing a video game version of Clerks where it's set prominently at a Gamestop.

My idea would be to NOT do an AVGN movie at all. He could have made any other kind of film but chose to use his star character to get more eyes on it forsaking the logistics of transferring an internet review show to a feature film. He asked for $75K initially for the movie so I think it would be fair to say that with the number of diehard fans that he has that he would get $75K from them. Who knows if he'd still get $300K but all things considered I think $75K was very achievable. Maybe grease the wheels a little bit and have a cameo for the AVGN character in the movie as a stretch goal?

That would have been a more sensible idea but as mentioned there were so many mistakes made during this production.

I'm pretty sure that the interview with Stuttering Craig is just going to be James talking about Rex Viper and his book with SOME mention about the AVGN. Also reminiscing about their time at screwattack together
Now if only we gotten Handsome Tom in the picture, which speaking of which, what's he been up to nowadays?

Dude got out of the internet reviewer racket. He's married and I believe he has at least one child. Dude was a firefighter and may have gone back to doing that or something along those lines?

I had a shower thought: what if James believed he was qualified to write an autobiography based on the fact that he wrote the screenplay to over 500000 home movies including AVGN episodes?

"Dude, I don't need a writer! I've written over 200 episodes of AVGN!"

I guarantee this nigga doesn't know who Bukowski is.

Cinema Snob did exactly that with a film he made pre-Snob called Game Boys. It's shot on shitteo, and leans heavily on the Clerks aspect, but had a "my friends and I are making a movie" comfiness to it, and not an annoying "lets cram in a bunch of cameos and movie references that make no sense" that seem to plague all reviewers' creative endeavors. Brad always seemed to be a mile ahead of anyone on Channel Awesome.
Full movie if you're interested

I never bothered watching the avgn movie or paying attention to anything about it because from the moment he first mentioned the idea I thought it would be retarded and pointless. Apparently I was correct.

I wonder if James hadn't done the movie would his current year content be better? Based on how up his own ass he is about it, I imagine making the avgn movie was pretty much the pinnacle of his life. Going back to just being a dude on the internet making silly review videos must have been tough after the insane egotrip making that movie must have been. Maybe he'd still actually care a little bit about his videos.

Then again, James is a lazy sperg, so, probably not.

I think the making of the movie was actually very stressful and truamatic for James while actually doing it, even if he's probably tried to convince himself otherwise after the fact. We've all heard the rumor (I forget where from) of him shutting down on set multiple times to the point where his friend Kevin Finn had to step in as a director. There's a reason why he's almost never attempted to make more movies afterwards, even ones without a big production like the AVGN movie. On some level he realized he's not cut out for making big movies like that, which was probably pretty soul crushing for someone who's life goal was to make big hollywood movies. That big letdown definitely has definitely bled into his subpar output after the movie. His heart's just not in it anymore. As much as he blames his muh kids for not having enough time, it's actually a good thing that he has them so he has an outlet that doesn't involve film making, which he hasn't really been passionate about post movie unlike his muh kids.

If James had just stayed in his lane making AVGN and making low budget movies with his buddies his current output probably would be much better because he would have never had to deal with the dose of unfortunate reality that was making the movie. I can't blame him for trying though.

A guy who doesn't pay his best friends to basically create his career for him, and not being able to fire them, instead making them all leave to never be heard from again, yeah i would say he ain't no filmmaker, content creator, sure, but no filmmaker.

Say what you want about Matei, but he must be the greatest tard wrangler. Since he is the only one who still have a somewhat "normal" relation to him yet.

Spoony was far more than just that. His older videos were really funny and could be actually educational and informative like his Ultima series. His mental illness only became obvious near the end
I always tend to think the issue with Spoony is at first he was genuinely having fun, but later on it seemed like he genuinely was dredging up bad feelings and emotions ( +my normal rant about how he got unfair treatment).

.... I got a specific bone to pick with this all-in-one of the Ultima Retrospective though, it's literally the youtube review equivalent of a fan-edit of Lord of the Rings (book) that cuts out the Scouring of the Shire because the zoomer editor doesn't understand the point of it. Same deal here... the best part of the whole fucking retrospective is after Dupre comes back to life and Spoony gets real for a minute about his history... and naturally, this version butchers that because the editor saw it as just "a skit" and apparently things that aren't game footage aren't part of the experience.

For fucks sake, watch the original or don't even bother.
