The thesis, if you don't want to read all that shit, is that making games is actually very easy and you need little to no skill whatsoever to do it. He then posts a bunch of videogames nobody has heard of and a few heavy hitters to make his point. The saccharine tone combined with the utter confidence in being so totally wrong really put me off.
If you want to know why this is wrong, (if it isn't already obvious), the best response to this attitude is a video by Acerola. He wisely doesn't call out Thor specifically, but he does call out game development influencers who try to undersell the difficulty of making a game, which includes Thor.

To elaborate on this, Asmon is what really pushed him into the stratosphere and he likely pulled a lot of his viewers from Asmon's audience. On October 27th, he had 12.3k subs and was growing a few hundred subs a week. However by the end of the next week on November 6th, his channel had 23k subs as he started to hit the algorithm on November 5th.

The next week was where it really kicked off as by November 12th, he had 395k subs. This is because Asmon's viewers sent Asmon some of Jason's clips to watch, which showcased Jason to Asmon's usual 30k viewers on stream and then his editor put out two clips about Asmon reacting to Jason's shorts.

Asmon's clips channel usually pulls in 500k views within the first 1-2 days. Seeing as how a lot of Asmon's audience are scorned Blizzard fans, they were eager to watch more of Jason's content because he talks about his time working at Blizzard like he's one of the "good devs they miss". Combine this with him shit talking Blizzard as a whole, which they love to hear about, and suddenly he's got a huge audience that quickly picked him up.

So he was definitely growing fast because of youtube shorts but Asmon added A LOT of fuel to Jason's rocket ship.

A lot of things about Povchen were bugged on release, however I do not recall a bug where Triglavian NPCs would shoot at Triglavian aligned pilots who had good standings with them. Everything I read around the time Povchen became a thing indicated that you needed at least 3.0 positive standing to not get shot at and 7.0 to access all systems.

Its possible that Jason may have been fucked over by CCP's derived standings mechanic and got confused. Or maybe he had less than 3.0 standing but more than 0.1 with the Trigs initially so they shot at him even though it was technically "positive"

Thor Stream Calc


Stream 1 (streamed on Jul 26, 24) (total time 12 hrs)

spends first hour primarily talking unions and sag aftra VA strike possibility. (has Game maker open but NOT coding so, no work nor coding is being done.)

At 1:12:32 Thor's lackey khronos says he has the supposed contract for the union, thor seemingly was gonna start coding but is distracted by this piece of info. (has game maker open with multiple branches unhidden but is still not coding, so not work just a blank sheet of codeless screen)


At 1:21:38, he switches tabs and is seemingly talking to a viewer(?) and seems to be creating a list, and goes to into a universal health care rant. Not working on any kind of code.

After this point he spends the rest of the stream coding and fixng Block game, so not being productive and not coding HB.

The Youtube vod cuts off at 11:54:49, I cannot verify anything spent after this point.


Total time of stream (presumably a bit above 12hr's)

Total time worked on HB (0 minutes)

Stream title was GAME DEV Q/A, I initially thought that it would involve more work on heartbound given that fact, however thor only had game maker open and on screen for aproximately 20 minutes maybe more maybe less.

Conclusion: Not a good start, especially if the game has been in development for 8 years.

Nope goes over his INTANET situation and at around 59:29 he opens up a BG notepad where he is telling his MMO rpg server that maxes out at 50 players, the new content and bug fixes.

around 1:20:00 - 1:30:00 he is testing out stuff in block game.

Around 1:40:00 ish he seems to open a Game Maker website but it's down, and I doubt that it's having to do anything with HB.

Of course since I am skimming, I am lacking some context, however it seems he has an intention to work on HB but it seems that Game Maker is not cooperating. I am trying to be fair here, he spends around 15 minutes attempting to launch it. These in the work world are billable hours since updating and waiting for programs to launch and download IS considered work. With that logic I am gonna go ahead and give him his 15 minutes.

However, he seems to move on from working on it. And starts messing around in BG.


At this point I can confidently say that thor spent 11hrs and 45 minutes streaming, and only 15 minutes "working" on HB

Conclusion, thor tried to work on HB or see if Game Maker would work with him seems it did not. outside of those 15 minutes I would say he mainly worked on BG and watched a game direct on something. but that's not what we're here to calculate now huh?

In my observations, he seems to only minorly edit config files of already written code. So perhaps he really really doesn't seem to even be productive in the project he spends WAY MORE time with on screen. (referring to Block Game))



I can confidently say, if thor does not open the stream with him working on HB, despite it being a GAME DEV stream. I can skim through it and declare that he did not work on HB.

Consider the fact that the next 4 streams are him relentlessly playing WOW's newest expansion, I hope (though with very little expectation) that he would opt to work on HB. As so far, he's only tried (key word here being tried) working on it for 15 minutes by my rough estimate. So let's see here Thor.

How much time did Thor spend actually working on HB?

In total HB had a screen time of 30 minutes (guesstimate, but damn close).

However screen time is not work. he really only spent 15 minutes attempting to work on it. In 13 streams.......


So Thor spent 163 hr and 45 minutes NOT working on HB. in 13 streams in one month.

So with that in mind, thor doesn't fuckin work on his game at all, at least during his streams but is it really a stretch to say that he works on HeartBound off-camera all that much either? He easily could be working on his game and providing a somewhat entertaining stream showing the struggle of making his game educating people on the real challenges of a Indie Dev, and still have a good reputation for that besides his anti-consumer stance on Stop killing games. That's not the case. A game of this type should only take 3-4 years at most 6 to make. however he's stretched this shit to 8 years and counting. I doubt it get's released soon. if at all.

The smugness is inherent in the corporate software development environment. It's especially bad in Video Game development. But like every industry, there's a lot of variance.

Some dev studios are so bad, QA can get fired for just responding to a direct inquiry from a low-level code monkey. (Tiburon- Madden)
Some dev studios are fantastic to work with and even allow input from QA in the design and balance areas. (EA Canada- EA UFC) (Respawn- Apex Legends until about season 3)

But for the most part it's just "QA Monkey yell at Code Monkey, Code Monkey sleep with Producer Monkey, so Code Monkey get more attention and gets to blame QA monkey for ignoring an issue QA Monkey brought up almost a year ago."

The part of the puzzle he figured out wasn't super challenging. ROY G. BIV is just the color of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. The math shown in the sheet is pretty straightforward if you take into consideration the rainbow hint. The colors count upwards in a base 7 system:
Red = 0
Orange = 1
Yellow = 2
Green = 3
Blue = 4
Indigo = 5
Violet = 6

Since there are no other colors, we can't count higher and must assume the shapes of the bottles denote multiplication:
Square Bottle = 7 * 0 + color (or 0-6)
Round Bottle = 7 * 1 + color (or 7-13)
Triangle Bottle = 7 * 2 + color (or 14-20)
Hexagon Bottle = 7 * 3 + color (21-27)

Maybe people aren't as autistic as I am, but it wouldn't have taken more than a couple minutes to figure out and write the conversions. The modulo division would have probably tripped me up for longer than deciphering the bottles. But most A+ Certified aspies learn to count in binary (base 2) or hexadecimal (base 16), so it's not a rare skill anyway.

His voice definitely changed, though it's debatable if it's a permanent change or if he's doing the Elizabeth Holmes chest voice, and he only uses a bass boost while streaming from home, when he's not in charge of the EQ he doesn't have the wall trembling voice he wants people to believe he has. So it's not a voice changer.

Been going through his shorts and there's one where he describers a dispute between "cartels" that sell stolen BattleNET accounts.

His story goes:

• There's 3 "cartels", A, B and C.
• Cartel B finds a BattleNET authenticator bypass, which allows them to brute force passwords because they're bypassing 2FA.
• Cartel A goes to the Blizzard forums to complain that they can't compete with cartel B because they have this method.
• A then posts the method, which causes it to get patched by Blizzard.

This literally makes no sense, if cartel A had the method they could just... use it themselves.
