Specifically because Persona is about characters and the relationships between those characters and Lily was pissed that it didn't have a fast-forward button so she could skip all of the story elements and get to her usual power fantasy combat stuff.
This is funny because Lily has said that character relationships are the most important part of a story, no questions asked, plot is utterly irrelevant it is 100% about the characters and their relationship with each other.
Then again she only seems to care about character relationships when it's lesbian lovers...
I've said this before, but this is really the thing about Lily's criticism that's so irksome. I love the Persona games, but I totally understand why somebody wouldn't be able to get into them; they are extremely dialogue heaving and the social calendar aspect takes up a huge amount of gameplay (and isn't something you can just ignore; even if you decide to blitz through without bothering with Social Links somehow, you still have to go through a LOT of time between major plot points or dungeon crawls). I found myself fast forwarding through some of the conversations in Persona 5 Royal (having played the game on original release), and I remember when I went to New Game+ Persona 4 being boggled that it took over an hour just to reach a point where you can
save the game.
Totally understand people not getting into it. There are very legitimate reasons. For any given piece of media there are very legitimate reasons for a person to just not be into it, the most dominant being, well... they just aren't into it. It's not for them. No problem there.
The problem arises when Lily, in her claims to be a 'media analyst' or 'critic', doesn't actually view things with a critical eye. It solely comes down to her opinion on it. If it's not something that she would enjoy, for whatever reason, then she can't take a step back and say "I see where this is coming from. It's not for me, but I get why people like it." It's always, "If this doesn't pander to my specific tastes, it is
literally garbage, that is objective fact, the only people that would enjoy this thing are too stupid to understand why it's bad'.
I don't really like Dark Souls because the heavy, methodical gameplay just isn't how I want to engage with a game, but I totally see why they're such popular games. They just aren't for me.
Lily doesn't like Dark Souls, and that's because they are objectively bad games with objectively bad design and people only like them because they've been brainwashed.
