Kind of bummed the “You throw like a queer!” got cut. But it was fun as hell to see Gwess singing Jolene get animated.

Yeah David Pro usually cuts out lines or scenes if they are small joke scenes that don't progress the plot since they did that a lot in Parts 4 and 5. It makes sense but it's unfortunate.

Well the only way to watch the other parts is check netflix since they probably have it uncensored since they also have the dub which uses uncensored stuff.
Nope, everything's still censored as hell on netflix, even dubbed too. Only non censored one so far is Stone Ocean.
Time to shill for the blu-rays which is just fine since there's not too many of them.

I didn't know that, guess Netflix is just using the TV version for the previous parts which just feels weird

Yea. Esp with how they acquire the parts at a later date you'd think they would put the blu-ray ones up there. I think it was either this year or last year when they put Diamond is Unbreakable on there, but when I was doing a re-watch it was the TV version.

Speaking of censors, I'd advice anyone to check this out if they're into seeing what kind of edits go into the blu-ray. I loved keeping up with this when DiU was airing and they have all the parts on there outside of Stone Ocean ofc.

I know it’s been a while since Jojolion has been discussed but there is actually a fair explanation for what the fuck happened behind the scenes mainly with this quote from the release of the 25th volume

It makes me think he had to cut a lot of ideas due to COVID affecting his schedule and he wanted to get to Part 9 quick.

"I was gonna do three more rock insects while Josuke sat in that chair and kill Karera right after Kei showed up but my editor said he'd shoot a COVID tipped blowdart at me if I did."

Yeah, not really a good excuse for the utter lack of quality and blatant plot holes in Jojolion. He had a monthly release schedule and there really isn't an excuse for delivering something so poorly put together when he delivered much more coherent and flat out greater parts on a weekly release schedule.

That's fair, personally the issues with Part 8 come across as Araki trying to be too ambitious and doing a genre he's never done before for an entire story. But I do think he rushed in the end for Part 8 since the final chapters from 97-108 felt really rushed.

Jojolion also suffers pacing wise from feeling like Araki wrote it out of habit as if it would be a weekly story. It's weird that Steel Ball Run largely made the transition from weekly to monthly smoothly but Jojolion feels a lot more like it was him fumbling through how to handle issues releasing way less frequently.

I think the issue comes from Jojolion coming across as a story that Araki never fully planned out. I feel like he got as far as planning up to chapter 55 and then after that he did not know what to really do.

I was waiting for JoJolion to finish before I started reading it so I suppose I can finally do that. Tried to avoid spoilers for the most part and was moderately successful. Still heard a lot of interesting reactions to it.

Steel Ball Run is ultimately an episodic villain-of-the-week road trip story that has a loose overarching plot, like Stardust Crusaders or Golden Wind. There’s a lot of intervening fights that could be reordered or removed without much real consequence to the story.

Jojolion, on the other hand, is a true mystery where both the characters and the audience are kept in the dark until the end (unlike DiU’s pseudo-mystery, where the characters are trying to figure out Kira’s identity but the reader already knows who he is). With mystery stories, the overarching plot is what needs to take center stage, and payoff is a necessity, which is what Jojolion lacks. It’s the kind of story which really needed to be at the very least outlined in full from the start, which really just isn’t how Araki writes.

Really, it’s kind of like Attack on Titan, where it’s clear there were a lot of interesting ideas planned out and set up without a real plan for how they were actually going to be resolved. And unless you’re a god-tier writer, you cannot write a good mystery making shit up as you go.

Basically, Jojolion is completely unlike the other Jojo parts in its story structure, but it was still written like a villain-of-the-week road trip story culminating in an encounter with the final villain in the shadows. Unfortunately, that’s not a structure that works with a story that was set up to be about the conflict between fanily members’ differing opinions regarding how to deal with a curse that’s plagued their bloodline for generations. That’s not a problem you can solve by beating up bad guys, but unfortunately that’s how Araki wrote the story.

Because of the way its structured, Jojolion is at its best when you dont need to wait another month for a new chapter. You'll probably end up enjoying it more than most people that had to wait 10 years for it to end.

It kinda worked up until the Vitamin C fight. Up to that point I was very invested in the mystery and, although I was dissappointed that they got rid of Damo so soon (looking back he was probably the best antagonist the part had, could've been Jobin but they fumbled it) and that the flashback contradicted Karera's past with Kira and Josefumi, I was looking forward to what Araki was planning for the next half of the story. Shame it was never that good again.

Also a shame we ended up with this faggot.

I think Araki did have a clear outline up to the Vitamin C fight since that was a clear payoff to the stuff set up. It’s just after his defeat it felt like things were going nowhere especially with the rock doctors who felt forced. Like there were some decent fights (Milagro Man, Ozon Baby, Doctor Wu, and Ojiro 2) were probably the best fights in the second half but everything went downhill with the Flashforward and Araki deciding the worst Jojo villain should be the main antagonist.

At the very least he listens to the song he named his Stand after. What a true Chad.

Honestly though, I'm still a bit confused as to what he wanted. Just like, money and a bit of power, right?
He literally just wanted money. He also had a vague idea of wanting power to throw society in chaos. He’s honestly the dumbest main villain since he literally could’ve gotten away with everything by bribing Gappy and Jobin since neither had any real moral objections to the shit he did.

But Jojo fans make shit up like how he wanted to help put his species on the top (despite the fact he literally could give less of a shit about the other rock humans since he pretty much helped kill two of his henchmen). They also try to make his motive deeper than just money despite him having multiple monologues about how he wants money.

This is what he explicitily states as his goal, which would go in line with the other Rock Humans, as it seems that they all have a common desire for power and status. The entire Rock Human operation was about producing Rokakaka so they could sell it to rich fucks and get a lot of cash, thats about it really. The New Rokakaka was supposed to be the ultimate hustle for them, since it would allow you to regrow shit without having to lose something in exchange. Tooru even announces it to the world as a way to hype it up and talks about how they could just charge infinite cash for a single fruit since there were always going to be billionaires willing to buy it. I guess theres also a thing about Rock Humans having relationship troubles with human women, it never works out well for them.

IMO this all makes for a very lackluster antagonist. His ties to Yasuho and his cool (but controversial, if not downright nonsensical) Stand do very little to help his case. It's not like the Rock Humans were ever that memorable as villains, but I'd even consider him a downgrade compared to some of the ones that came before him. Take Damo as an example, their motivations are basically 1-to-1: Money, but Damo stands out by having a brilliant design and by being a cold motherfucker whos out for revenge. Nothing Tooru does comes close to being as cool as what Damo does in the boat or the way he incapacitates the entire Higashikata household.

I've seem some people online argue about a deeper meaning behind Tooru's actions, but I dont really buy it. It comes off as a desperate cope to make this guy seem cooler/deeper than he really is. Niggas keep acting like the flashback about his birth and the moment he hallucinates a wasp while dying are these deep haunting beautiful moments when they really werent.

Hence the Attack on Titan comparison.

Like, there WAS a plan… up to a point. The plan just didn’t extend to how the story would actually wrap up.
