JoJolion was 10 chapters in when I started, crazy it's been that long.

I don't know about that man. Part 8 got so iffy quality wise people were straight up theorizing dude had a stroke while writing it. Personally I still somewhat enjoyed it, but it was the first JoJo part that I wouldn't call at least "good".
We had a good run, I wouldnt mind if the dude called it quits after Part 9 (he'll also be well into his 70s by then).
With Part 8’s quality, I thought it went downhill because Araki got depressed by COVID not allowing him to go outside, and also the fact he never really did a long term mystery story before and it shows with how much stuff he dropped.

I still hold the same opinion I did when part 8 ended. That Part 8 is the worst Jojo part by far. Part 1 is at least earnest as all hell and clearly having fun with its absurd fist of the north star janky knock off premise. Part 8 is just sad because there was so much wasted potential that amounted to pretty much nothing.

The first third was some of the best setup the the Jojo series ever had, only to completely fall on its face and crash through the floor into the basement. It really just killed any hype I might have had for part 9 because part 8 really just made me think Araki doesn't have that spark that made parts 1-7 as great as they were anymore.

Which is okay, because good lord that man is 64 years old now even though he doesn't look it (though I haven't seen a modern picture of him, so maybe that has changed). His prime is long past and he made some of the strangest and frankly most enjoyable manga to ever exist. So its okay to say that he might have fallen off at this point.

I have the same sentiments regarding Part 8; had it stuck its landing, it would have ended up as one of my favourite parts, but instead it just ended like a fart, with asspulls pulled out of nowhere to defeat the final villain. A final villain who only showed up in the final arc, and has less personality than his own Stand.

Will say Part 9 so far is pretty good and can’t wait to see what Araki is cooking.

The fact he went back to basics by making it somewhat like Part 5 makes it pretty fun
Personally, I like the "heist movie" feel. It feels like it fits the idiosyncrasies of the Stand System.

With the next chapter coming soon, Araki revealed some new information about the part

Confirms what most people know that Jodio basically is influenced from both "Jojo" and "Dio" so he's basically the alternate universe Giorno in all but name

Rohan confirmed to be from Part 8 Morioh and that most of the future villains will be scumbags

Araki considered Japan, Indonesia, and Mexico as settings for their volcanos before settling on Hawaii along with discussing the connections that rocks have had to Jojo as a whole
