When Doom Eternal gets shown, I'll have a nice Guiness and popcorn, ready to watch the twitter feed. Doesn't this pathetic beta ever fade away?
I’ve noticed he’s finally gotten out of my reccomendations. Honestly I’m surprised he’s survived Metoo for this long.

Aren't prisoners already human, my guy? Flawed people that have a series of mental and psychological issues that got them in prison in the first place?

John comes across as the kind of rich sheltered asshole who is surprised those he'd deem the help are human so I'm not shocked it's a big revelation to him that prisoners are humans.

No, no. That's not what he's trying to say.

He's trying to say how prisoners often are represented as what it believes to be MONSTERS, and how he thinks Shawshank subverts that expectation despite the fact, that one is commonly aware that the prisoner is a human, that just committed a heinous crime, we see them as figures of monstrosity because of the heinous crimes they've done, not the person themselves. What he gets wrong is the way one would stereotype a person. We stereotype a person based on what they do, not based on their position.

Given that people on this very site have unironically argued "We should kill all felons because they're all evil people and if any innocents die, well, they must have done something or else they wouldn't have been arrested", this is probably the case of a stopped clock still being right twice a day.
There is a small minority of people in America who think the legal system is perfect and infallible and there's no reason someone would commit a crime save some blight of the soul.

Except the whole point of the Macdaddy crowd is that this is a common attitude, not the /pol/ kiddies being on freerange.

totally some Farmers getting a little too bloodthirsty a well)
This is a given.

Unsprisingly a group of people who spend their time watching mentally ill people abuse and degrade themselves and find it really funny might have something of a viscious streek. I occasionally find myself wondering just how fucked up we all are IRL.
Nah, I'm fine.

I tend to hover around midway Mackintosh is sort of right in how modern western society views crimminals is pretty fucked up (@Senior Lexmechanic is also totally right in some Farmers getting a little too bloodthirsty aswell) and self-defeating but he throws the baby out with the bathwater, just because you're a biproduct a misrable life doesnt make it okay to rob an off license. I think if both sides thought a little more with their head rather than bleeding/pointlessly vengeful heart we might make some actual progress.

So what he's saying is he's literally been talking out his ass for years about shit he knows absolutely nothing about.

Nothing new for Full McIntosh.

What prison movie does that, though? Even Oz has human characters. Has this idiot never seen Cool Land Luke? The Birdman of Alcatraz? Midnight Express? The Green Mile?

Is there a single prison movie that doesn't portray inmates as human?

He's just saying he's sexually attracted to Boggs and the Sisters.

One of the really annoying things about these sorts of pop culture critics is how ignorant they are on the topics they talk about. Its like that joke about "I don't watch movies made before my birth year" but its true and its every single one of them. The only stuff they have seen that is "old" is super famous shit or meme movies.

Also the real birdman of alcatraz was a piece of shit.

Yeah but how many of those movies have rape in them?

Am I suggesting that Josh only watches prison movies if there's rape in them? Yes.

The saddest dude in the world has released a new media rant:

Without even watching it first (probably will eventually), I can make the assumption that it's going to be about how nostalgia is bad because "back in the 80s what was culturally acceptable then is outdated, bland, and toxic now, and it's bad to look back on the past in such a manner because what is being introduced now is a better alternative, even though such toxic influences are still a plague on us today".

That's probably what it is, right?

I just skipped to a random part and heard him discuss how the woman was doing "emotional labor" by having a conversation with someone else.
Why do women and homosexuals treat incessant talking like slavery when they're the ones who always instigate it?

>Implying Jonathan speaks for women or homosexuals.

He's really grasping at straws with Hopper.
-He's always been an ass, this have never been appluaded by the show.
-It's partly Caused by legitimate Trauma and so is depth.
-The door thing and his explosive temper in relation to it is a reaction is the El's emerging sexuality by making sure his 14 year old daughter isnt banging her boyfriend-this is a good thing (I can't believe I have to spell that out) and his difficulty relating to her.
-Romance doesnt really work through intersectional femminist lens as it would be impossible to achieve praxis. They'll always be something someone is 'doing wrong'. Thinking on it relationships fail in general on this front.
-He deliberatly ignored the Characters of Billy Hargrove which perfectly summerizes toxic masculanity and Steve Harrington whose attitude to woman and gays is unusually enlightened for the period. the show is in fact far more in line with his ideals than he implies with this video.
-He also fails to acknowlague that the endemic sexism of the period is on display and is implicitly condemned.
-meaningful conflict is the soul of drama

The problem isnt that he brings this sort of stuff up-it's that he presents it as immutable truth rather than subjective conjecture. It's something a lot of these idiots do.

It's funny but that's what I picked up from skim listening to the video and I've never taken any lessons on any subject relavent to anaylsing pop-culture. So the question emerges, am I some sort of genius savant at pop-culture critique who needs to take his job or is Mackintosh dumb as shit rank amatuer presenting sophomore c grade analysis to the ignorant plebs?

People like him believe that unless problematic elements are mocked and destroyed on screen then it is approving of them. Every racist needs to be Pierce from Community where his only place is to be derided and beaten with pillows.

This thread hasn't moved in a while, but people like Mcintosh, Regenade cut, Lindsay Ellis, some other dude I can't remember are the reason I why I have a distaste in film essays. It boils down to you know that film you liked, it was secretly programming you to become a nazi, or sexist, transphobic. When that was never the intention.
