He's trying to say how prisoners often are represented as what it believes to be MONSTERS, and how he thinks Shawshank subverts that expectation despite the fact, that one is commonly aware that the prisoner is a human, that just committed a heinous crime, we see them as figures of monstrosity because of the heinous crimes they've done, not the person themselves. What he gets wrong is the way one would stereotype a person. We stereotype a person based on what they do, not based on their position.

One of the really annoying things about these sorts of pop culture critics is how ignorant they are on the topics they talk about. Its like that joke about "I don't watch movies made before my birth year" but its true and its every single one of them. The only stuff they have seen that is "old" is super famous shit or meme movies.

-It's partly Caused by legitimate Trauma and so is depth.
-The door thing and his explosive temper in relation to it is a reaction is the El's emerging sexuality by making sure his 14 year old daughter isnt banging her boyfriend-this is a good thing (I can't believe I have to spell that out) and his difficulty relating to her.
-Romance doesnt really work through intersectional femminist lens as it would be impossible to achieve praxis. They'll always be something someone is 'doing wrong'. Thinking on it relationships fail in general on this front.
-He deliberatly ignored the Characters of Billy Hargrove which perfectly summerizes toxic masculanity and Steve Harrington whose attitude to woman and gays is unusually enlightened for the period. the show is in fact far more in line with his ideals than he implies with this video.
-He also fails to acknowlague that the endemic sexism of the period is on display and is implicitly condemned.
-meaningful conflict is the soul of drama

The problem isnt that he brings this sort of stuff up-it's that he presents it as immutable truth rather than subjective conjecture. It's something a lot of these idiots do.
