Perhaps a better way to state my point is this forum is not a representative audience--everyone who ends up here has spent an absurd amount of time reading about all sorts of minutiae regarding Chris. Sure, people here would gripe that this or that was left out of a hypothetical film. But good documentaries are not necessarily "comprehensive" in this sense--in fact, by necessity they can never be, because any topic worth a film has too much ground to be covered in a few hours. Someone mentioned Grizzly Man--there was certainly much more video footage of Tim Treadwell than Chris has created in YouTube videos, but Herzog is a skilled filmmaker and was able to select the right material to portray Treadwell in an accurate and entertaining matter. A good documentary about Chris doesn't need to summarize every panel of Sonichu or go over every saga or include a clip from every captain's log. In fact, it is precisely the documentary filmmaker's perspective and selection of materials that makes his or her portrayal of the subject worthwhile.

Are you the friend qld mentioned Chris to, the one putting the documentary together? I'm just getting curious now.

edit: Ah, never mind, reread OP's post.

Either way, even if the forum's not representative of the audience as a whole, it's probably a good idea to realize that the audience is mainly going to comprise of people who already know about Chris. They'd want to see some kind of new perspective or new information brought to the table. It's already been brought up that there's not going to be much of a new perspective on Chris when there hasn't been anything new in quite some time now.

edit edit: In the end, I don't think this forum really necessarily minds if there's a documentary made or not. The girl trying to put this together can still go ahead if she feels strongly about it, we're not going to tell her to stop. I even wish her the best of luck on this and that I hope it comes together how she wants it to. It's just that we don't really care to fund it. Sure we joke about it, or maybe even are half serious, but in the end we don't feel like giving a red cent towards something we don't think will really turn into anything good in the end.

I mentioned 'Grizzly Man' because the only thing that made it a story worth telling was the end result. if Treadwell was still alive, there would be no documentary because It would have just been a film about some obscure, misguided animal nut. there are tons of those people all over the place. Herzog didn't make the story interesting, he did an already interesting story justice by framing it well.

As for this forum not being representative of the audience as a whole, you're right. We're probably more interested in Chris than most people would ever be, and most of us aren't interested in seeing a documentary about him. The general public would not care at all.

$20,000 is way, way too much. Props on starting a fundraising campaign, though. That's further than any of the other proposed projects have gone.

Even if $0.00 has been raised.

She's also planning on drawing a reboot of Sonichu because she's taking a drawing class next semester.

Man, she's like Supergirl or something!

A Sonichu reboot? Even if she does try to make a reboot, she can't capture the same spirit of Sonichu as Chris could.

the chick is crazy. she is constantly tweeting at chris. she's already dead in the water because he's probably already blocked her and sees her as a troll.

The only way Chris ever responds is if it's in his interest. No matter how bored and lonely he might say he is.

At this point, if anyone wants to interact with Chris on any level, some poor girl is going to have to get way closer to him than it's worth. Her best bet is to just go to Ruckersville and approach him at McDonalds as if she's just saying hi, then let him paw at her over the course of a week or so, and THEN start asking about doing interviews.

But really, if she's willing to do that to make a documentary about Chris, then she's a moron.

A gross moron.

I've said this before, but any documentary would be a waste unless Chris is personally involved. Last thing we need is a bunch of design students mixing low quality youtube videos together and calling it a documentary.

I have plenty of friends that have attended design schools and I know they have cameras and equipment that students can borrow. She might want to look into that.

I think since cwcki and cwckiforums are a community effort, a proper documentary should be a community effort too. A volunteer based project, not a donor funded project.

I don't think a documentary is a good idea. Just posting.

I don't know, she sure seems to have mastered the whole wobbly lines when drawing basic shapes, not erasing mistakes and redrawing, etc.

No, seriously though, we can't all be master illustrators, and I feel a bit bad ripping into her drawing like that. Despite what I just said she does seem to have the basics of drawing down, at least more than Chris does. (Though she seems to dig the graphite into the paper way too hard. If she happens to be reading this, I'd suggest drawing with a much lighter touch, to make it easier to erase when you make mistakes.) But she has a long way to go; I'd say she isn't nearly ready to try drawing a comic, which is a lot more work than many people seem to realize, and she should certainly not try doing a reboot of Sonichu. Especially if, as she says, she wants to draw it without the use of copyright-infringing characters. I mean, what's Sonichu without Sonichu?? :sonichu:

Oh, haha, wow, I tweeted at her awhile ago and after a bit, she tweeted back to me. I guess I wasn't paying attention.

Does she really think that anyone wants to be associated with Chris anymore than they already are?

Haha, thanks. But yeah, seriously, it's a retarded idea. Although, now that I think about it a bit more, you might be able to pay Chris a bunch of money for an interview. But it'd have to be a shitload of money. At least $1k. And even then, there's a 50/50 chance of Chris refusing you because money doesn't mean that much to him.

Damn! a documentary, meeting and interviewing chris, making a reboot of Sonichu. That chick's crazy.

and lol at taking a drawing class. Sure just one class in drawing will make you good at art enough to make a quality comic, its not like professional artists work for years on their craft or anything
Unless she's going for Sonichu quality in which case, carry on *yawn*
