Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

We really need a Link'ss Awakening type remake for Oracles of Ages/Oracle of Seasons. I hope this is what is planned next after TotK.

From what I read Link's Awakening for the Switch is one of the best all time sellers for the Switch, so I think more remakes are likely.
I would also like to see that treatment applied to A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds and have the two games bundled. The style looks gorgeous.

I don't mind the mysterious nature of the marketing, I would just like to see something that would really get me interested. Why not show one cave? Why not show one dungeon? Shit just tell me that they do in fact exist. It feels less like they want to keep a treat hidden and more like they know people will be disappointed and are opting to pull the wool over our eyes.
Nintendo isn't pointing a gun to your head and forcing you to preorder the game. Just wait a week for people to post shit before deciding whether to buy it, genius.
Why is it only Nintendo and Zeldafags get this defensive over pretty typical skepticism? We all know you'll buy the fucking thing regardless, why does someone expressing mild concern make you so offended?

Mostly because of shit like this.

They're not. Sony fans are pretty bad about it too.

That being said, I assume it has something to do with lack of parental guidance or social stimulus growing up leading to an overly emotional attachment to whatever brands/IP got them through their life.

You see it a lot with Star Wars too.

You extrapolate out the entire lives and personalities of people the same way you extrapolate out forty seconds of content from a video game trailer. And probably with the same degree of accuracy.

I think that about sums up the counter-argument to the complaining.

Nah, he's got a point, fans like that get really defensive over their favorite brands like they're a part of their family or something. That's consoomerism, baby.

I remember the response to Twilight Princess being overwhelmingly positive when it came out and then people slowly turning on it over the years. I think people have turned around on it again since, but people fucking hated both Twilight Princes and Skyward Sword in the time period leading up to BOTWs release. It's one of the reasons BOTW was so different in the first place. I actually think people hate Twilight Princes because of Skyward Sword.
I remember there being immediate disappointment, with people hating the motion bullshit and the game being overshadowed by Wii Sports, though obviously it sold really well.

Your sales info is way off, unless you mean, like, top 20 and even then I am not sure.

This is every fanbase of -product- ever and has been since the internet went mainstream, and I can only say that with confidence because the internet makes it easy to find slap fights about people insulting -product-. This isn't exclusive to Nintendo brands, or anything. The only difference is the degree scope of the defensiveness as obviously more niche fanbases are less visible. People still valiantly try to defend WoW of all games from people bashing their game like they're devout cultists, despite everything that went wrong with that game.

Indeed. Most of the hype around Twilight Princess was derived from the first trailer they showed at E3 2004 which was one of the earliest live reactions of its scale to be broadcast. That trailer alone and the response to it are largely why so many people consider E3 2004 to be one of the best. The trailer also being a parallel to the original Ocarina of Time trailer also contributed to this. I remember watching it live and it was a pretty big deal.

You can't underestimate the power of a really good trailer/reveal.

This was where much of the game's original hype and goodwill came from. And when the game got closer to release and eventually came out a lot of people had gripes in regards to the wolf gameplay, Midna, splitting the game's release across two consoles, mirroring the world and motion controls, the twilight realm segments and the overall sparseness of the world. This has been rehabilitated over time and I think much of that ended up being a bit baseless, but that is how things went with Twilight Princess. Much like The Wind Waker, the overall image and perception of Twilight Princess improved with subsequent Zelda releases that ended up being more disappointing and egregious.

Which is a general point worth considering: as the Zelda formula began to grow stale and the larger cracks in the series became harder to ignore (and as other games and series caught up) the complaints surrounding newer Zelda games overshadowed the older Zelda games.

I hope they later come out with a new 2.5D Zelda game for the Switch. A Link Between Worlds was an excellent game, and Link's Awakening for Switch was very pretty. The Big overworld Zelda games are great, but there's just something about a traditional dungeon crawler.

As long as they don't go too wild with the experimenting. Spirit Tracks was fun but the train mechanic was super annoying.

I had the urge to listen to Zelda's Lullaby and was hit by a wave of nostalgia earlier today.
I still have no idea what the fuck Majora's Mask was, but that was easily the darkest LoZ game I still have no real clue what was happening to this day. It was like a nightmare after a pleasant, wistful dream. Reminds me of what growing up felt like looking back.

And it gave us a perfect inverse to Zelda's Lullaby.

There's something haunting throughout Majora's Mask. It's not just the moon, the odd copies of people you know, or the literal land of the dead: something felt wrong with all of it. When it was over, Link just moved on. No real relief or feeling of victory. Just enduring a journey that won't end anytime soon.

The word I've seen most-associated with Majora's Mask is "melancholy".
