I think it comes down to the fact that Chris being a millennial and being raised by the Internet is the only real difference between himself and Len. They're both incredibly self-indulgent, self-entitled, self-aggrandizing know-it-alls whose reality extends only to the hobbies they drown themselves in.

I've mentioned in the past my interest in obtaining a copy of transcripts of Lenny's trials, but had no knowledge on how to go about it. I asked Saul about it a while back, but he's been rather busy lately (and I don't blame the guy). After some googling and false leads, I finally found a phone number I can call to request that information.

The office will be closed until Monday, and then I'll ask for a quote. The prelim was around two hours according to the witness account provided by @Kirby, so that one may be a little out of my budget depending on how much the price per page is.

I'm going to need some additional info before I jump headfirst into this:

• The prelim was on August 10th, starting at 8:15 am, correct?

  [*]What are the associated case numbers I'll need to make sure I don't stupidly ask for "the Leonard Shaner stuff"?

I work in legal industry. In my province you can request the actual audio of the proceedings. I have done it many times. Then we have the option of transcribing it or hiring a transcription company top do it. But it gets pricey to transcribe.

So my man, ask about the audio CD instead and if you can get that. Then we get the advantage of hearing it.

Audio would be the best way to go. I really want to hear if Hy was as crazy as he sounded in the story that @Kirby shared with us. Sometimes it's really hard to imagine what the madness must have been like.

Potentially yes. Again, I am in Canada so things are vastly different up here. Totally different laws and I could not venture in to saying anything on that subject. @AnOminous or Saul are the guys for that.

For example, we have a case here, we lose at trial division and file appeal to Court of Appeal. Person filing appeal must obtain audio of lower court hearing, have it transcribed and certified and include in an Appeal Book which is then filed with the Appeal Court. As it is a matter of public record, i.e. anyone can search the file at the court house and view it, then it can be posted on websites or used in media etc. Only unless there is a confidentiality or sealing order in place then it would not be allowed to be available to the public.

Anyway, early days to talk about it, have to see what @Wally Balljacker learns Monday. I did come across some other things I am going to read on that may also assist. I did see though a directive that the public can only be charged .25 cents a page, so that is good!

A lot of these older places might not be able to handle forms over the internet so you might need to get a fax machine, or use one of the online faxing services in order to send any needed forms. All I would do is just ask for a transcript form

From my understanding it's up to Shaner's attorney to specifically request that sensitive information in the transcript be left out. Since that likely didn't happen there is no way that releasing transcript information would be doing anything illegal, and also I think it's the responsibility of the transcriber to keep sensitive information out of the transcript anyway. However, as long as obviously sensitive stuff like address and social security numbers aren't being released then it's basically documentation that is freely accessible to the public that anyone has a right to see. It's called a Public Record for a reason.

I tried doing some searching on this and I don't think the answer is so clear cut. What I kept finding was that reporter transcripts aren't subjected to copyright. I also couldn't find anything that said outright that you can or cannot post so and so from a transcript online.
