Posting this here in the event that it might ring a few bells.
Around the very late 2000s and some time afterwards, there was one place called the "Let's Play Forum" (Not to be confused with "Let's Play Zone," which has been mentioned several times before in this thread) that was run by goons who got chased out of SA for being too smug and unlikable for their already-dreadful standards. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was less of a forum about LPs and more of a hazing playground for said goons to prey on newfags who didn't know any better. This was well before SA and it's LP segment became infamous everywhere for their insufferable levels of shitlib faggotry.

That whole place was run by one Dutch weirdo named "Grawl," a hardcore goon who was apparently the most prominent opposition figure to Schildkrote at the time (That saga has been described in detail in here). Anyway, Grawl is one of the most passive aggressive and unpleasant creatures from around that period, and my understanding is that even his similarly-minded peers from the era have long disowned him.

I remember Let's Play Forum. I briefly checked it out in 2009 when I wasn't really aware of SA, and I certainly didn't know SA was the place to go for LPs. I remember even then it seemed pretty dead.

He gets up to 2019, when TDI's daughter dies. Beef talks about entering the discord and seeing a new user named Hikkiari updating the users on the situation. Beef verbalizes the million dollar question: "If your best friend's kid just died, why are you posting about it on a gaming Discord?"

It's so funny that the last straw for The Dark Id was the only believable thing about him: That a goon would react to personal tragedy by inappropriately oversharing on the internet.

Slowbeef (inventor of talking about video games and the unfunny one in any Retsupurae video) going for the jugular on this is the rare time his contribution to anything has been entertaining, as opposed to being white noise between Diabetus delivering punchlines.

I wasn't directly involved in this, but I think that LP Forum was created because during the early days of SA LPs circa 2007-2008, a lot of goons absolutely hated the concept of Let's Plays and didn't want them to have a place on the site at all. It was sort of the mirror image of how the early SA Let's Players had all kinds of autistic rules and regulations they demanded people follow if they dared talk over a video game; other goons had an autistic revulsion to people talking over video games altogether. @proteus4994 probably knows the specifics, if he hasn't already detailed it before.

Retsupurae would have gone nowhere without slowbeef running the show and despite his (many) missteps, I have never come to dislike him.

Really, slowbeef's biggest mistake was stubbornly clinging to the sinking ship Something Awful instead of embracing his Youtube audience. He wanted to grow, and at the same time he had the cool kids club whispering in his ear telling him to stop doing the things that his filthy unwashed viewers wanted.

Most people have some quick wit and can respond to someone else's joke in a way that elevates it, even if they only manage it occasionally. Most people aren't the funny one in a social group, but they can and do make jokes that land.

But sometimes you come across someone who is cursed to never be funny. People who don't even accidently fall on a decent joke, and usually find a way to ruin other people's as they are making then. Everyone knows at least one person IRL who is like that, and Slowbeef is one of those comedy black-holes.

slowbeef and Diabetus were the main cast of 95% of retsupurae's content, usually it was only those two. If you don't like him, that's your opinion, but people wouldn't have watched that channel for years if they couldn't stand slowbeef.

You don't need to like everyone on a program to like the program - it's very common for one person to be the "extremely disliked" one. (See Matt or Woolie from Super Best Friends Play, Opie from the Opie and Anthony radio show, the tranny from LTT, the tranny from Easy Allies, etc).

Sorry, I was a retsupurae fan back in the day, and I do not comprehend how anybody could simultaneously hate slowbeef and enjoy the vast majority of their content. The split in commentary between the two was probably 60% slowbeef, 40% Diabetus.

Most of Kino Casino's audience can't stand Warski's low IQ interuptions, playing the same soundboard clip over and over, and literal screaming into the mic like a monkey. But they still have an audience because the other host is funny.

Like Tanner said, loads of duos have one who most of the audience uncontroversially agree is "the shit one". Pretty much everytime Slowbeef is mentioned in this 200 page thread it's followed by a dig at him being unfunny or his ego. Diabetus is almost always mentioned positively.

I have watched the entirety of exactly one KC episode, the first one, because I was a fan of Godwinson and PPP. When Godwinson appeared on KC, the majority of the viewers seemed to hate him. When PPP tried to break away from Warski with @Perspicacity, it failed miserably. I don't know who the KC audience is, but I don't see any evidence that they dislike Andy Warski.

I didn't say the retsupurae audience "always hated slowbeef". I said he wasn't a funny person which used to be the general consensus whenever he was mentioned in this thread. That didn't ruin the videos because he wasn't the only person in them.

This thread was started in December of 2016, which is well past the point of retsupurae being effectively dead. I'll leave this post as a rebuttal to your "general consensus".

This is why I can't bring myself to hate slowbeef or to shit on him (too much), I try to remember 2008 slowbeef and how funny he was.

This doesn't mean I disagree with much of anything you guys say about him though.
