People like Slowbeef, Diabeetus, SGF, Proton Jon, Research Indicates and Raocow are lucky to have avoided such a twisted fate. Oh well, I guess Chip has his role to play. Every time his motley crew gets word of a new offense he has to get right on slamming it on Twitter to show solidarity with the collective. All for one and one for all.

Imo Slowbeef is the biggest wanna-be internet celebrity of them all. It's so obvious in hindsight that his hatred of Pewdiepie was because of jealousy.

Does anybody remember how hard he tried to get TotalBiscuit on the retsutalk podcast years ago? Diabetus ended up not appearing on that episode because he clearly knew Slowbeef would be performing ass to mouth the entire episode, it was so embarrassing listening to a grown man fanboy the way he did.
I think he appeared on the co-optional podcast not long afterword, which was coincidentally the height of his relevance. He'd probably spit on TotalBiscuit's grave now if asked about him, the leech.

He seems to think he 'invented' Let Play (as if the idea of playing video games for an audience was somehow novel) so he gets real pissy and jealous at anyone who got big doing the same thing not realising it's charisma thats important not thinking you invented the concept.

Perhaps if they didn't have so many rules, written and unwritten, for something as stupid as recording yourself playing a video game. Can't have a webcam and you especially can't have a scarecam (Pewdiepie etc). Can't have a niche (Proton Jon, Slowbeef complained about his many Mario romhack LPs). Can't play Pokemon. Can't video LP a game that could be done in screenshot form (was never a fan of screenshot LPs other than the Zork 1-3 LP). Can't LP a game if it just released (DSP was able to beg his way to a 14 year legacy with this model). Can't LP a game if it has a lot of dialog (It was okay for Slowbeef to LP Snatcher though).
And I'm sure there are many other rules I am forgetting. So the salt must flow when those that followed these rules got very little traffic and the people that did what worked often got propelled to popularity.
Also the AVGN could be the first LPer, and you could argue that some of George Wood's videos are LPs (although they are more unhelpful walkthroughs). It is fucking hilarious that a lot of the LPs in the late 00's were the same quality as this "LP" from 1992 though -

Slowbeef went full on social climber for a period of about a year when he was doing the podcast and pursing his MBA. I think he realized, unlike Lowtax, that he had something that was very high value, and he was, letting it slip through his fingers (and had been for a couple of years). That's why he so frequently pushed the narrative that he invented/did the first video LP, he was trying to build a brand and forge a little empire for his family. He was giddy as a schoolgirl when he had Northern Lion on RetsuTalk for that reason, NL's audience even then was like 10-20x the size of Retsuprae's, and he actually had a real revenue stream.
This is also the time period when they did retsupurae merch, it just didn't pay dividends like I think Slowbeef was hoping. Managing physical merchandise is difficult and time consuming, and every other person involved in the process can fuck you over, either by incompetence or greed, and I don't think they were prepared for that on top of managing a podcast, still trying to do RetsuFrashes, hook guests, and do normal life shit.
