Maybe my memory of the series is foggy (its been 13 years since I last watched it), but I don't recall there being much of fanservice for Lolicons to goon over.

That aside, I'm willing to bet that anytime they bemoan “censorship”, they're not talking about entire story arcs being removed for being offensive to Christians (as 4Kids did) or to comply with US law (again, as 4Kids, Dic and Saban did). Nor are they bitching because references to Japanese culture get replaced with American so that it's easier for kids to digest.

Instead, I'm going to assume that they'll be bitching any toning down of fanservice. Because how else can they enjoy any video game or tv series if it doesn't make their micro PPs hard?

None of them grew up with actual hardline censorship of anime and it fucking shows.

I'm going to give my hottest take yet: anime censorship is a joke in current year. Oh no, they edited a scene to be less edgy or sexual ( that gets fully included in the Blu-Ray, partially so you buy the fucking Blu-ray). I remember the days of Yu-Gi-Oh, where they literally erased guns from people's hands, but they still shot the invisible guns anyway. That was broadcasted live on TV.

Kinda complicated, but western animation also produces adult shows. The difference is that the western animated shows are mostly targeted either at pubescent children or at adults. Teenagers mostly get live action shows in the west, who can also be pretty horny.

It wasn't changed completely, they just didn't have the rights to the actual first season of the show due to it being made by a Different animation studio. Look up "season 0" and it should come up. 4kids mostly only censored the guns and kept the plot intact enough to be understandable, but they were infamous in general for censoring media for reasons tied to network regulations in really odd backasswards ways nearing on schizo amounts of odd like closing a characters mouth in a scene where they were yawning and shit.

I'm not a yugioh expert, but the modern censorship is due to in-house I believe. Things like removing all religious iconography such as grave stones and depictions of crosses, graphic gore, nudity, and recoloring things sometimes.

I kind of suspect that 4kids felt like they would lose authority over programming unless they leveraged their power as often as possible. Because television censorship wasn't nearly as aggressive as 4kids personal rules at the time. Ultimate Muscle was on there and arguably waaaaay worse than YGO, so it's hard to pin down their standards.

I don't care nearly as much about complying to TV regulation boards like the FCC and similar organizations. Sometimes they invert the colors with blood to get past said censors, but on the disc it's uncensored, because it's not on television. That's what I'm talking about.

I hate to disagree, but Fritz was the debut of an independent director and the first animated film to receive an X rating from the Motion Picture Association of America, founded essentially in 1922. It seems disingenuous to pretend that it was the norm or repeated often.
