See I don’t agree with that, though I do understand the viewpoint. I don’t think Myrna or anyone else created him. I think Lucas was broken from the start, and Myrna and his other guardians did a lot of the same shit that anyone with a child like that would do. Is she a great person? No absolutely not, like I said I think his whole family is very unremarkable. But I don’t really blame her/them for being in denial or for trying to console and help him for as long as they could.
I don’t think it’s at all uncommon for, if a child comes home crying from school that he’s been bullied, the parents to be like “there there my perfect Angel let’s go get some ice cream.” Is it right? No but it’s common, ESPECIALLY back then (1980s) when Lucas was growing up and bullying was even more rampant than it is today, and mental illness was much more taboo. Like I said, I do understand and respect your viewpoint, but I think that Lucas is faulty by his own design, not anyone else’s. His parents are just unexceptional middle class people who didn’t know how to handle him or the hand they were dealt.
