For a few days? Is that normal? I admit I don't know much about kidney dialysis. But what I read, he may now have a lifelong chronic condition. I am sure letting his diabetes get out of control caused this. Anxious to hear more.

Great info.

No chance of you posting that AMA with Lucas's old roommate? I'm not a Sofalaw member.
I'd have to dig for it to be honest, that was years ago, lol. If I find time I'll see what I can do.

I never heard dialysis used for dehydration, but I am no nurse or doctor.
This just adds to what I was saying yesterday about the ketoacidosis. Kidney failure is a common result of that, and he showed a lot of the symptoms. Dude has possibly reached the absolute limit of the abuse he could subject his body to. If he continues to consume sugary food and drink after this, he's unlikely to last long enough to see 44.

Mallon House or other assisted living is the only way he will make it through this alive. He's in denial about why he's here to begin with. He won't stop pounding down the sugar as long as he's in control of his own diet.
Could it be the Venom?

Energy drinks, enough of them at least... that's gottybe bad news.

and there it is, the beginning of the end for lucas. He is now officially fucked. He can't be trusted with anything, never takes meds unless he's forced, is too stupid to do them properly anyway if he wasn't and is absolutely pathologically incapable of watching his diet, let alone of adhering to a special renal diet on his own. His obesity, beetus and hobo lifestyle have officially caught up to him and are royally fucking him

He's trying to downplay it and doing it in a weird way. For somebody with failing kidneys its up to 3 times a week, and up to 5 hours per session. There is no 'for a few days' in the way he's trying to make it sound. Dialysis isn't something you do for a couple days and then go on your merry way cured like taking a dose of antibiotics. This isn't just the beetus, its the fact its untreated, he's morbidly obese, not watching his sugars or anything else, lives a hobo lifestyle most of the time and the meds he's on very likely aren't helping either

He went out to do whatever it was he was doing that day, puked in an uber, collapsed in a store (and was presumably taken to the hospital via ambulance as a result) where they checked him out, must have run a blood test, had something show in said blood test that indicated his kidneys were failing, leading to a kidney biopsy which very quickly lead to him being told he needs to go on dialysis immediately. This isn't a one off thing, this has been building for awhile now (and it makes the whole puking incident with the joint and beer and with the hot chip challenge he did with skeletor start to make alot more sense, those were symptoms he missed) The heat i'm sure didn't help things any but this was going to happen very soon whether he went out in the heat or not. He's not well at all if he's going from collapsing in a store to needing a biopsy and then near immediate dialysis. Thats 'you're lucky you got here when you did cause another week or two of this and you'd be in renal failure and dying' territory. The ;for a few days' stuff means more than one session has been scheduled and he's likely going to need it more than once a week. So.... big lifestyle changes are going to be coming down on him real quick. If he fucks around and treats dialysis how he treats his other appointments he's as good as dead already. Wouldn't be too surprised if he does either, dialysis is not a pleasant procedure at all. Lucas may not fully understand what it entails at this point. But even if he does manage to stick with it, given his health as it is he is on borrowed time and prolonging the inevitable. The fact they jumped to biopsy and 'we're putting you on dialysis tomorrow' as fast as they did indicates his kidneys are not in good shape at all

Thats because it isn't. Dehydration treatment is IV fluids. Only way you'd end up dialysis from it is in very specific circumstances like you were out in the desert for weeks slowing dying from dehydration and only getting barely enough water to survive, that ended up fucking your kidneys as a result. Nothing lucas has done would cause the kind of dehydration that would put someone on dialysis in and of itself.

The dehydration stuff is either lucas being legitimately too stupid/and or in denial that his own diet/obesity/meds/untreated beetus/hobo life have caught up to him in a big way or he's being the usual stupid as a rock lucas and trying to downplay it by lying. That said, i'm leaning toward the former, if for no other reason than he doesn't seem nearly as concerned about this as he should be. Anybody who knows anything at all about dialysis knows at that point its no joke and is something you need to take very seriously if you want to live

As far as this being temporary goes, I wouldn't count on it. He's been showing symptoms for awhile and they jumped on dialysis fast during his examination. This was a combination of all of the shit previously mentioned catching up to him, which implies a decent amount of damage has already been done. Its not a heart attack or he'd know it by now, its not a kidney stone cause, well, if you've ever had or seen anyone with one you'd understand why that isn't it. He'd have been on the ground screaming and begging for morphine not puking his guts out

Thought he more like graduated from Mallon House.
He did, basically the nursing homes halfway house. But this changes things. Its very likely he'll be back at the actual nursing home side of things so his meds can be monitored and the proper food provided for a renal diet. No way he can be trusted to do that on his own. On the other hand there is no guarantee there are any open spaces for him there as they likely filled his as soon as he was out. So, he could find himself with an extended stay at the hospital itself. At least until such a spot opens up at mallon, or some similar place

This is a death sentence if he doesn't smarten the fuck up. Even if by some miracle he somehow gets lucky and his kidneys get back to working order after awhile it'll be a very temporary situation if he doesn't make some big changes - which it goes without saying he won't. Not of his own volition. He's going to right way to a forced conservatorship or a grave. He should be shitting himself at what his doctors have told him at this point. Hell he should have been panicking the moment they said 'kidney biopsy.' Nothing good comes out of hearing those words, as it almost always kidney damage, renal failure or cancer

If he wants to live his days of pounding energy drinks into himself, eating 3 helpings at every meal and stuffing himself like a turkey at clinkerdaggers are officially over. He is not going to be happy about a low protein renal diet and it should be real interesting to see where this leads in terms of the ebegging for food

They didn't help, you can be sure of that, but at worst its likely they just sped things up a little. This is one of those long time coming, chickens coming home to roost kind of situations for his health

If he doesn't do a serious 180 asap i'll be extremely surprised if he's alive when christmas comes around

Dialysis patients can go on for years IF they are serious in following medical advice and the strict diet they are place on.
I don't know what the Creeper means with the "dehydration" bit. Part of the dialysis treatment is in removing the excess water/fluid built up in the body due to the kidneys not doing it on their own. They are restricted in the amount of fluids they can drink per day.

ETA:
The way the Creeper is going, his mother may outlive him after all.

It's not only sugar that's bad, its carbs, which he eats probably more than sugar with fries burgers breaded meats chips....

Some of you have a medical background or have studied medicine, so this is review, but: With uncontrolled diabeetus, you're having to urinate more often than normal while dealing with constant dry mouth/dehydration. It's part of the body's desperate attempt to purge excess blood sugar that can't be shuttled into your cells because your insulin sensitivity is good and fucked. Add to that, some diabetics drink shitloads of water to try and offset the dehydration, we're talking several gallons per day, which puts additional stress on an already damaged renal system. Ol' Luke is going to end up non-compliant with treatment, resulting in an acute blood infection that'll see him dead before year's end. I don't think anyone would mourn his premature passing; he's human debris.
