For those of you here who don’t know, I’ll elaborate on the question of Dick Masterson.
I was a massive Dickhead, until I realized something. It’s not an act. He is one of those guys who has the dangerous combination of sadism and lack of empathy. He takes genuine glee in the suffering of others, and he doesn’t care who it is because they aren’t him. He purposefully sets people up around him to fail because it’s funny for him. He purposefully associates with people who will fall spectacularly so he will have a front row seat for it.
That’s just what he does.

He *should* be that smart but we also used to think he was smart enough not to do literally everything else he has done.

I only ever listen to the show so never see what's going on on screen so this whole time I thought the Anime Cope and Sneed thing was just a bit where he'd superchat something like "it's a fat dragon farting in a car on the 4chan auto board" I didn't know it was actually a link to a picture of a fat dragon farting in a car, eating a pizza. Me realizing that while Nick was stuck in a cycle of re reading it nearly killed me at work

Nick also should've been smart enough not to commit actionable, per se defamation, on camera, against a person he knew to be litigious.
He should have been smart enough not to risk his very secure and comfortable life for the sake of narcotics and aging skanks.
He should definitely have been smart enough to avoid catching felony possession charges.

It was a Thursday at 8:39 AM. We know that his kids go to Wednesday church because Rackets talked so badly about it just a couple weeks ago. This means a church member likely saw/heard something alarming with the kids and called first thing in the morning when the offices opened. Those damn protestants.

To add to this, @Glass House has what is probably the most realistic answer to who reported it the cops, the mandatory reporting line means its a very specific kind of person.

Hello my good sir Null. I would like to draw your attention to some filler news content about homosexuals in gaming. In particular I would like to quote this excerpt about the game Celeste since I played it at release, and link this article written by the creator a few years ago.

And here is the link to the article written by the developer who made a game about overcoming the impossible, which could be applied to almost anything, but he simply trooned out after development was concluded, and literally retconned the main character as a troon. Peak delusion.

It has also become painfully obvious to me that I, myself, am trans. But these are things that I was not aware of during the development of Celeste, where I was writing Madeline and speaking from her perspective. Creating Celeste with my friends helped me reach the point where I could realize this truth about myself. During Celeste’s development, I did not know that Madeline or myself were trans. During the Farewell DLC’s development, I began to form a hunch. Post-development, I now know that we both are.

It wasn’t checked on the 16th so I suspect it wasn’t “kids being beaten alive” type report, they’d check that sooner. This is a “kids look unhealthy” or something that was reported to cops, cops reported it to CPS, and I suspect CPS rolled up, noped out, and called the cops to show up.
