I have an update on this.I didn’t get to listen to it live, but today was hands down the funniest Reddit segment ever. I don’t play Genshin Impact, but part of me wants to sign up just to see how expensive it would be to get that character, then email the receipts to Null along with a superchat matching whatever the cost ends up being.
But I also don’t wanna go broke on some anime game I’ll never play.
First off: ABSOLUTELY NOT MY MONEY OR MY ACCOUNT
A few different times I’ve mentioned that I have a friend who works as a Chinese to English interpreter. Well, turns out he has a massive Genshin Impact addiction and had been planning on making a third account to “start over.” Yes, really. And he agreed to document the cost for a brand new account to get Furina so long as I didn’t say his name or show the account ID.
Here is his write up:
There are 3 banners that change out every season. Two for characters one for weapons. Each banner features a prominent 5-star with a higher chance of winning them along with three features 4-stars. Similarly, the weapon banner has a featured 5-star and three featured 4-stars.
You can technically win any character or weapon in the game at any time from these banners, but the odds of winning a non-banner 5-star is astronomically low.
There is a pity system in place that works as follows:
You are guaranteed one 4-star every ten wishes.
You are guaranteed a 5-star every ninety wishes.
If you do pull a 5-star before the ninety wishes, it resets your counter back to 0. I.E. you got a 5-star in twenty wishes so you need ninety wishes before you’re guaranteed another one.
When you pull a 5-star, you have a 50/50 chance of it being the banner character, in this case Furina. If you fail to pull her, your next 5-star is guaranteed to be her. This means, with terrible luck, you are guaranteed to get Furina in a maximum of 180 wishes. I got her in 172 wishes, close to the worst possible odds.
For every 3-star, you earn 75 masterless stardust.
For every 4-star, you earn 2 masterless starglitter.
For every 5-star, you earn 10 masterless starglitter.
If you pull a 5-star that you already have a maxed out constellation for, you get 25 masterless starglitter.
This is important because 75 masterless stardust to buy a wish up to ten times every month.
For the starglitter, you can spend 5 to get a wish as many times as you want. So, every 5-star character will give you two free wishes.
Wishes cost 160 primogems for one and 1600 primogems for 10. You can earn primogems through regular quests and gameplay bonuses, but the primary way to get them is by buying crystals and converting those into primogems at a 1:1 rate. The average cost of a wish is about $2.50, but you get bonuses for larger gem purchase.
In order to get Furina on a 100% brand new account I spent the following:
8 purchases or 980 crystals each costing $15 =$120
3 purchase or 1980 crystals each costing $30 =$90
To further confuse players, the crystals are converted into primagems at a 1:1 rate. It costs 160 primates for a single wish and 1600 primagems for 10 wishes.
So $210 total just to get Furina without any constellation.
During this, I got one of the three 4-star characters in the banner eight times, and I got a non-banner 5-star character once.
I made use of my 10 monthly starglitter wishes and 26 stardust wishes earned from pulls.

So it cost my friend $210 just to get this character without any constellations. So it’s very likely the $600 the Redditor spent was accurate.
My friend included PayPal receipts to show proof
