I would argue the fixation on archetypes has more to do with eliminating block structure than with any given popularity in UB or Commander, and the obvious-templating which has been used between sets (obvious to limited players) has created grossly redundant archetypes.
I disagree somewhat, but otherwise agree with you here, particularly that Commander suffers the most by being the de facto main format.

I also find that most of the kvetching about modern design extends from people whining that their $50 pile can't compete against $300 decks, 'like back in the old days,' despite the fact that cards like Shivan Dragon or Pack Rat used to be $20. So to say, I think the complaining is drawn from people who've never won an FNM, much less anything bigger, and wizards doesn't really give a shit if the piggies keep ponying up to play mono-red in arena Bo1.
People who say this are just scrubs getting filtered by the Arena ladder. Depending on the Standard environment you can still ball on a budget pretty easily. Boros Dragons (~$130 iirc) just took 2nd place in a Standard Challenge and if you settle for an only slightly shittier landbase you can shave close to $100 off of that, the threats are all incredibly cheap. Before the last rotation MonoB was so pushed you could make a very annoying Discard/Demons list for <$50. I'm pretty sure there are a few MonoG Stompy lists that are very afforable too. While these aren't going to make you a world champion, a half-decent player could take an FNM with them.

I'd argue that's happened to standard at least twice before with affinity and energy.
It's happened outside of Standard too

Up the Beanstalk - signpost uncommon for the Simic 4CMC or higher deck.
Arcanum's Astrolabe- common mana fixing for the Simic Snow Deck
Troll of Kazadum - Common Cycler to smooth out mana in limited.

Brainrot really melts my brain. I saw this and thought "hey isn't that soyjak face?"
So will he succeed in deporting all illegal alien across the planes?
Or just like Elesh Norn, he will become even more retard and fumble every action possible as usual?

Shit should have spoiler that.
It's a leak from reddit.
So take it with a grain of salt.
Nah nobody here gives an actual shit about being spoiled I don't think.

There would have to be an actual plotline for us to follow for us to get spoiled on something.

Also LMAO Liliana is one of the main characters where Jace will die for his sins...you know the lady who got off scot free for her bullshit.

But its a multiverse story so dollars to donuts none of it will "really" happen except for a couple characters who focus test well sticking around. Its the Don Draper meme- "Hear me out- Planar Chaos, but thats the entire block."

No, WOTC is actually retarded enough to kill off Jace after doing a fake out on his death with Vraska instead of just letting the only GOOD FUCKING COUPLE SINCE ORIGINS live happily ever after.

Why would they let the face of their second wave of fans have a happy ending?
The internal seethe over Jace from the DEIniggers is almost palpable. You know it chaps their asses that no one gives a fuck about their token browns and lesbians. It took about one block for the writers to make him half of the beloved whiteboi/monstergirl ship but they haven't managed anything with Chandra in almost a decade. Curious to see if they'll give him a halfway-respectful ending, put him behind the same emergency glass as the Phyrexians, or absolutely humiliate him out of pure spite.

Forget that gay romance shit, when is Garruk going to sink his axe into the necrocunt?
Liliana will never see consequences.

Probably humiliation. Aside from the romance and his character development during Ixalan, I haven't met many people who actually like Jace. I'm assuming he'll eat it and the story will transition fully to an unholy fusion of YA Teen Romance and Legally Distinct Marvel Slop, starring a cast of gay brown trans lesbians with Ajani sticking around as the token furry.

Funnily enough, during the ORI-WAR era the Magic story actually rebuilt a somewhat dedicated following after a few years of falling off. /tg/ had dedicated MtG story threads as well as sporadic discussion in the general threads, and Tumblr got super into the shippier aspects of the story with Jace/Vraska, especially Chandra/Nissa, and even a little bit of Gideon/Liliana. The lore and stories at the time were incredibly hit-or-miss but Wizards putting in the bare minimum effort was enough to draw interest. Jace in particular saw a bit of a reevaluation as people realized him being insufferable was mostly localized to flavor text. In the story proper he actually eats a lot of shit.

Then we got the War of the Spark novels and all that organic hype pretty much died overnight. The Chandra/Nissa shippers quit in disgust and the people that actually cared about more than mashing their dolls together were disgusted by how anticlimactic it all was.

Jace is (somehow) the most developed member of the modern cast and he'd still be the face of Magic if Wizards hadn't shelved him for what are undoubtedly DEI reasons. In typical DEI fashion, though, every character they've tried to replace him with has been unlikeable dogshit.

It's pretty striking how hard they worked to kill Gideon too. I know Design probably didn't like how they shoehorned his design space, but DEI also fucking hated how he was a love interest for Chandra and Liliana.

Ugh. Don't remind me as I was a Chandra fan in the day (really enjoyed the purifying fire) and wanted her and Gideon to work out.

Yeah in my whole life I've encountered... maybe 1 person who liked Jace. And that's a big maybe. I keep wondering where or who they are finding that supposedly likes Jace.

I mean like even just seeing who shows up with the PWers on sleeves or boxes or playmats and stuff.

da faq? He was explicitly a Chandra love interest - i mean very literally he was invented for the Chandra planeswalker book as a romantic interest and then WOTC brought him into the game. But he's never been a thing with Liliana unless you just mean her general flirtation tendency that she would kind of do with anyone she needed to manipulate.

I even thought Chandra and Nissa could be a cute gal-pal pair but I HATE how Tumblr has made it so that nobody can be friends any more otherwise it's all shipped together. I half want to get War of the Spark just to savor the pages of that ship sinking but I've glanced at it and the writing just in general is so disappointing (and this from a Gargoyles fan too).

BTW, Tolarian Professor's video on that book is still the most faggoty thing he's ever done, and I'm counting the videos he's done with trannys and drag queens.

Basically that is the entirety of it for everyone.

Because Ixalan-1 was the only story since origin's (if not before) that managed to achieve the high bar of "5 out of 10"

I know Design probably didn't like how they shoehorned his design space
God forbid your headliner characters that show up repeatedly have consistent ability sets...almost as if that is how you build a brand....

We will see, but I think Jace might be a representation of the old magic fanbase who wish things would go back to how they were. Thus they'll shove him into the dirt.

I do wish they made it more morally grey at all. Only problem I've heard is dragonstorms spreading, which they haven't represented in cards. How has Innistrad not spread its hellish conditions? How has no plane launched an invasion? Instead all we get is speed racer. My guess is if they show Omenpaths as too negative, they think that would be endorsing real world borders so they can't have that.
I warmed up to him lately. I wonder why.
I don't want to admit the fact that he is the few named character in current year who has monogamous hetero relationship depict in the story help improve my opinion of him. (:_(
I blame my own lgbt fatigue for this.
Can't blame you. The only other het ship I can think of is maybe Kaito/Wanderer, and I wouldn't be surprised if they sunk that.
