It's made some of the most insufferable faggots I've ever had the misfortune to play with. They'll make "technically a 2" that's optimized for shredding precons and cry if you play absolutely anything that beats them.
To be fair they were probably gonna do something like that anyways.

Edit: *looks at full secret lair, sees defense of the heart*

I swear to god WOTC Just made that a gamechanger to tell people this existed and sell a bunch of promos of it.

I do want the mystical archive drop as well since it has the japanese Abrade art but english text.
I like the art, but man those are some bargain bin cards, especially when considering every other lair spoiled at the same time. Spell pierce and Abrade are still decent sideboard cards I suppose. Also unfortunate they decided to give English treatment to pretty simple cards, pretty easy to remember most of those besides maybe Duty beyond Death.

While true, if I can just buy Abrade/Spell Pierce/etc for the art it means I don't need to buy collectors packs for the japanese version.

Plus, Abrade slots into almost anything using mountains, so I'll get use out of it lol.

I don't like the other art styles they're showing nor want pony stuff, so I'll take what I can get.

I dunno, dabbing on people with pony defense of the heart might be worth it

Dudes will say their table's a 2 so I pull out that Gisa and Geraff precon with a reanimate and some banners added to the 99, then they'll pull out fucking Ur-Dragon, Krenko, and Jodah the Unifier, then whine at each other the entire time. It's the new "my deck's probably a 7."

M'kay buddy. Here's my totally a 2 Tayam deathtouch and stax special.
Yeah. It's still the same basic problem (retards lying to spike people playing basically precons) but with a few more absolute bans (soft bans for bracket 3). It's ultimately not a problem that is solvable at the WotC-rules level; the only solution is that your local metagame starts punching the people who do this in the cock until they learn or move on to a different game.

What would help would be for Precons to have this thing called.

"Interaction"

The white black Commander Precon has a whole fucking FIVE removal spells.

This is precisely my problem with the bracket system: it doesn't solve the problem of unbalanced games and mismatched expectations, which in turn makes it almost equally as useless as the old "rule zero conversation". I've been one of the "dudes" in this setting because some of my decks I've had from before this change are bracket 2 (at least according to moxfield) and these decks absolutely blow most precons out of the water. To me this change is one of the most schizophrenic things WotC has ever done.

The new Strixhaven stuff has all sold out surprisingly fast EVERYWHERE. I finally found a local store that had a few, I assume only because scalpers haven't hit it yet for anything beynd Pokemon.

I know I should have pre-ordered a month before but goddamn I used to be able to pre-order a week or two before with no issue. I just want my cardboard.

One store I stopped at said strixhaven commander decks were delayed like a week.

Did anyone else go hit the Friday prerelease? I reserved a spot at my LGS's but they hit capacity, and so did every other store within an hour or two.

I think Secrets of Strixhaven is gonna make for a good limited set. Really interested in drafting it.

I was working, but I swung by the LGS to get some product and it was jam packed full. This set seems to already be a slam dunk. I think players may be trying to show just how little they care for the UB lines.

Here, all the Universes Within sets' prereleases have been slam dunks since at least Tarkir Dragonstorm, with a decent turnout for Avatar and almost no-one for TMNT. I expect people will still fill seats for The Hobbit, but I'm not so sure for Marvel and Star Trek. I'm sure all the upcoming UB crap will sell like hotcakes to collectors though.

No no... I'm venting my rage on the Star Trek thread... no need to start doing it here too.....

Gods I would sell any one of your souls to have Trek 2e back in cardboard format instead of the MTG abomination!

A small part of me Desperately wants the set to actually be good, but on principle I also don’t want it. I’ll feel better about it bombing if they try adding all the new trek stuff, like star fleet academy.

They won't.

They won't touch anything after Enterprise.

I'd actually wager a $2 rare against you that something might show up from starfleet academy.

But then I would also bet it would be more in the commander set than in the regular expansion.

Here's my logic:

By my estimation, they would have been working on the set when SFA was in development. See the wiki says the show got an official series order in 2023. MTG averages around 2 years in development. So if they MTG started on the ST set in 2024, that would be right as SFA is being filmed. ST set is being released in Dec of this year, right in the midst of Academy's second season. Given the way corporations, markets, etc works, that's where my bet is coming from. WOTC and Paramount would have absolutely been convinced Academy was going to be a big hit, revitalize the brand, and so as it hits its second season (to thunderous applause), the MTG cards would hit store shelves, and they would have perfect brand synergy, leading to both selling out.

At least that was their hope. And given the lead times you need to make and distribute stuff, (the cards should just about be made or getting prepared to right now as we speak) if there was anything Academy related in the Trek set, they would have no time now to try and remove it. (At least not without eating a big financial hit.)

But then I'm old enough to remember the old promotional material for Voyager where they called the doctor on the ship. "Dr. Zimmerman" and the predictions that Neelix would be the breakout star of the series. (Heck I think I still have those TV guides.) So it is my experience that things can be out the door and filled with bad predictions. Academy may not get its entire cast into card forms, but they would possibly do some cards of the "predicted" breakout stars.

Heck I wonder if they're going to do just the one commander deck like Turtles, or are they going to do "era" commander decks like Dr. Who? If the latter I could see then a TOS era, TNG era, and then a Kurtzman Trek era. (Hm, who would be deck #4? Kelvin timeline era?)
