Well it's looking like this wont be Concord 2: electric boogaloo, but as some of you have pointed out that even if this does have tens of thousands of dedicated players that this might not be enough to save the sinking ship that is Bungie. We will see soon enough I suppose.

Marathon Server Slam: Weekend Feedback Recap

Only a few hours left to try out Marathon before our Server Slam goes offline in preparation for launch March 5th. Many Runners have maxed out their Faction Rep, adopted a Rook or two, and braved the haunted hallways of Hauler. We've also heard from people saying the deeper they get into progression, they more fun they are having. Tau Ceti can be unforgiving, and we can't wait to see you next week.

First off, thank you to all of you who've been running around Tau Ceti with us! Many of you have left your empty Shells and full bags behind, while some of you have found some goodies and made it off world successfully. But, all of you have been brave, adventurous, and chaotically unpredictable in a great way. We've learned a lot from you, watched from the shadows as you've hit snags or found moments of glory, and taken notes the whole time. Your input during this time has given us a lot of items to sort through and we'll be doing just that in the coming days, so thank you.

Secondly, regarding all we've noted, here's a few points we've been keeping a close eye on during our time together:

Fresh topics:

  • Additional queue options: Currently you have the ability to run as a Solo (be it as Rook or as a Runner in a solo lobby), or you can queue in with a duo or a full trio – but we have heard the feedback about duo dedicated lobbies. This has been logged and shared with the team.
  • Unbinding keys altogether: For players, especially on console, there's been a steady feedback stream about the desire to not just rebind a key - but to clear the keybinding altogether. We've passed this along as well.

Items we're still tracking:

  • PvP feedback: TTK is the hot topic. Some of you want longer duels and more Runner contact, others are vibing with the current pace. We're reviewing Runner density on non-beginner maps and keeping a close eye on how Perimeter and Dire Marsh feel all in all.
  • Med and ammo economy: We hear you that meds are soaking a lot of your early loadout budget and that back-to-back fights can chew through your med and ammo reserves pretty quickly. We've seen some folks for and against the Depleted items as well - along with how rewarding drops off of AI are. If you rand dry mid-fight or at a critical spot in your Run, tell is all about it! We're keeping an eye on the Help Forums for this one: (I'm not linking that lol)

  • UI feedback: Keep it coming! We do plan to continue iterating post-launch and want to make sure that you're able to easily navigate, read what's happening mid-fight, manage your equipment effectively, and see your pings without any noise around them. We've got a big thread out on the Marathon Official Discord where you can drop your thoughts:

  • Movement and heat generation: Lots of chatter around slide feel, momentum, and heat alike. The common asks are smoother slide transition, letting downhill speed carry, and lowering heat on core movement for cleaner chases and disengages. Keep your takes coming!

  • Fixes we've shipped:

    • In‑run voice chat bug: Fixed! If you still have issues with hearing other players when you're out on a run, we also highly recommend that you double‑check in‑game input and output devices in the Social options menu.
    • Lobby size: Early on, some of you said fights felt too sparse. We bumped the number of Crews loading into Perimeter (Beginner) to test higher contact. Tell us how it plays. We’ll keep watching non‑beginner maps too.
    • Mouse input lag on PC: Early on into the Slam, some players with streaming/capture software running were experiencing input lag with their mouse. A fix has been rolled out on Steam. If you haven't patched yet, just restart your client and it'll download automatically.
    • Names changing to “Redacted”: We believe we've found the cause of the cause of normal names being changed and have been working all week to address and update things server-side. If your name was changed as a result of this, you now have a fresh name change token and you can learn more about it right here: (lol) Or you can request help restoring a name here: (lol)

One of the SMG's has a thermal scope that says it has an effective range of 40 meters but it actually has a range of 60 meters.
Please tell me this is because they made the zoom stat work the way it used to in D2 (unintentionally, iirc) where putting on a higher-zoom scope increased the damage dropoff range of your gun a ton.

Not that great for a free niche game, though.
It's a beta. People won't want to play before the full game is out in 3 days. They may think they will lose their progress between the two. And there are loads of nextfest demos to try and RE9 stealing a lot of the streamers who would jump on this for content.

In terms of a beta it's done very well. I don't think it's worth the cost but I'd be interested to see more. Personally I'm tempted to buy it and see if I can get into it when they patch it up a bit. But it's Bungie so I know I will just be disappointed.

25,000 at that hour seem like a pretty good number for a "niche" game. But we all know Bungie need this to be better than niche.

i mean it's 25K counting the fact that it is bungie with sony as the publisher not including their attempt at getting destiny2 players on it too...
were it a indie dev, yeah it would have been great.

That's what happened with my play group Sunday night when we talked about the lvl 30 bonus kit. It's just not worth it and all the prog is being wiped. People went on to check out RE9.

I think I'm gonna buy it. I'm still on the fence about it. I'm hoping they either increase the TTK or make the runner abilities near instant. Last night a enemy player started begging for his life as I was about finish him, this isn't arc raiders bud. I want more of that, but sadly i know it will never come.

Watching this review. Can we stop pretending that Bungie innovated ANYTHING?
* Marathon: Doom/Wolfenstein cline nobody played/hear/cares about.
* Halo: Unreal/Half-life clone for the PS. Literally nothing new gamemodes and weapons were 1-to-1 copies
* Destiny: literal FIFA/MADDEN tier game-as-a-service-slop. If you play Destiny you are NOT a gamer lol console scrub

IDK much about og Marathon, but Halo literally brought FPS to home consoles and was the first FPS on console that didn't use tank controls from what I remember. Halo 1 introduced the twin stick controls all console FPS games use, it introduced the two weapon system to make the game's sandbox more challenging, which is also something all FPS games started doing after it. It's also the game that started the "Regenerating health" trend with the energy shields. Halo was pretty much the First FPS with player controlled vehicle combat, it also had pretty advanced AI for the time.

Halo 2 is the entire reason Xbox Live became a thing.

As for Destiny, There are plenty of things to complain about the game and Bungies managment of it but "Lmao if you play Destiny you're not a gamer" is some nigger logic.

Maybe the twinstick is a case to be made but there were other games that made use of PS's twinstick before.

Regenerating health and two weapon are a limitation not an innovation.

Destiny players are subhuman nigger cattle calling them anything more is an insult to whatever rat or pig or animals you compare them to.

Halo innovated with vehicle and weapon sand box. nothing else did quite the same thing even today.

Aliens was the first to do twin stick. Resurrection I think it was called?

No. Xbox live was happening, Bungie were told to use it.

FPS existed before Halo. It existed after. It was a well polished game using the fundamentals on a console. It made networking easy and that was it.

I think also people ignore that Half Life's PS2 port wasn't very good. People thought the game felt old on the newer console and it had some bugs the PC port didn't from what I remember.

I guess what I meant to say for the twin stick thing is more that Halo was the game that popularized it. Kind of like how there were games that had ADSing before Call of Duty but Call of Duty is the reason it became mainstream.

Meaning they blatantly ripped off a mechanic of another game and got all the credit.

Common place in the game industry. Clash of Kings did the same...
So game's just shouldn't take what works and use it? Mario was pretty much the first successful side-scrolling platformer. Should everyone else have just eaten shit and figured something else out? "Sorry Sonic and other 2-D platformers you can't make a sidescrolling platforming game with jumping, Mario called dibs."

Or Dragon Quest started the JRPG genre, so everything that came after it should have just never been made?
