I think Sony hasn't been doing all that well since going full commiefornication mode. While I want Bungie to die, it leaving a festering wound on Sony would be a welcome bonus.
They haven't - the decision to shut down their first-party Japanese studios has been a disaster, as they lost a lot of quirky, creative developers that made the kind of exclusives that people associated with the PlayStation brand, to say nothing about losing the ability to contend in the A and AA market and keep a steady pace of releases to tide people over while they wait for the heavy hitters to land.

That has left them with, realistically, three or four big first-party Western developers. None of these studios are actually profitable - Spider-Man 2 cost as much as a Hollywood blockbuster and barely broke even, NG has destroyed both their reputation and popularity of their IPs by letting Cuckmann run amok. All that on top of the fact these studios need close to a whole generation to release a single game, and they're all busy making the same dogshit game.

Then, as you said, there's the $3.6 billion panic purchase of Bungie, and not only have they failed to make back the money they've wasted on Bungo, but Bungie has actively cost them money by (allegedly) sabotaging any in-house live service project they felt was a threat to them and by not delivering any product worth shit. The only reason Helldivers 2 managed to squeeze by is that Bungie dismissed it entirely.

There's also the trainwreck that has been their GaaS initiative - they've bet pretty much everything on this, only to realize too late the peak had already come and gone, and they were now saddled with more than a dozen games in development releasing in a shrinking, oversaturated market. And Sony decided to actually double down on this instead of doing the smart thing and peace-ing out like SEGA did.

We can't also ignore the CEO's pet franchise, Horizon, that nobody actively gives a shit about, and Soyny fags only glaze because they have fuckall else to use when justifying the purchase of a PS5.

I genuinely don't see a path forward for Sony - their only saving grace is that Microsoft is even more incompetent than they are, and Nintendo are actively malicious and anti-costumer. What exactly do they have to offer people with the PS6?

Marginally improved graphical fidelity that they need to stage a presentation for to point out the differences? More woke Marvel/Naughty Dog/Sucker Punch/God of Cuckery/Horizon slop?

Who the fuck is going to fork over $1000 for the privilege of playing that shit?

A dozen people spending five bucks on a skin is definitely going to fill that $250-million sized hole in Bungie's wallet. GG no re(funds) lads.
I do have to to congratulate Bungo for scamming Sony for this much for so little work:story:
And don't forget the $3.6-billion they paid upfront for these clowns in the first place, or how they were supposed to be the shepherd for Sony's live service empire because they did such a good job with Destiny [Citation Needed].

When the house of cards finally collapses Bungie will probably end up having cost Sony more than a dozen Concords. This is hall of fame financial mismanagement.

The idiots even retconned the appearance of the Marathon itself! Instead of having the entirety of the Marathon's living space built into Deimos where the natural rock would protect the colonists, they just shoved a giant rectangle through the moon sticking out both sides. This makes for a considerably less defensible spacecraft as well as wasting space with the hollowed-out shell still attached for some reason (why are they lugging all that rock around if it's not really protecting anything?). They also seem to have forgotten (or didn't bother to look up) that Deimos is not a perfectly round moon, and is actually somewhat oblong. Basic shit like this can really grind my gears.
To be fair, the OG Marathon kind of looks like a butt plug.

Watching corporate gamedev being caught in a death spiral is cathartic. We all have fond memories of early 2000's era of gaming, but it's all been hollowed out by suits and ideologues. This tumor has to go.

One really has to be out of touch to consider Bungie an expert. It was obvious to anyone actually playing games and paying attention that Bungie didn't know what they were doing most of the time when it comes to managing Destiny, it's a goddamn mess.

It really is funny how Pete Parsons basically scammed Sony into funding his car collection

Let's not forget that Sony still has to release Fairgames and that Horizon thing, and both games have only received mockery and derision since their respective reveals.
Horizon Zero Players I think it's called.

I too would sacrifice Sony and Bungie for a mint condition E30

Parsons actually played it smart.

Right before the buyout Bungie was getting super cozy with Microsoft with rumours MS was buying them. They devved up a Halo x Destiny crossover for the big bungie anniversary Destiny event.

Either Parsons got MS and Sony in a private bidding war or he convinced Somy if they didnt move MS would.

A little bit of both I think. Sony was already looking into wanting a live service game studio and M$ was already buying up seemingly everything they could get their hands on at the time. Makes sense that Bungie would play both sides to try and get the most money possible.

Sony still has two Concordlikes coming up too, Fairgam$s and Horizon Hunters.

Fairgam$s might have been quietly canceled though, their socials haven't been updated in a really long time.
It boggles the mind how you can take a simple awesome premise of "Hunt robot dinosaurs in a post-apocalyptic North America" and fuck it up so so completely.

Maybe if they didn't have Nikacao Avakado as their protag, it would have worked
