The stages of grief apply not only to death but also any major loss of change for the negative in life. I think Chris is currently on the "anger" stage. When he was first brought in everything from the shit eating grin to how he worded his letters. Read like someone clearly in denial over the situation and Chris believed this would all blow over in no time.


Well here we are almost a year later and since things didn't go his way (null and Bella arrested and tried and in jail in his place for "betraying " him and him getting a full pardon from grandpa Joe) he's chimping out in his letters trying to blame others, because that's all he'll ever do. The docs at western state may have declared him fit enough for trial, (and convinced him to put the larping on pause in front of the grown ups in court) but they haven't hammered in any sort of revelation that what he did was horrendous and his life while not the best to begin with before is pretty much over. He's looking at either a long stint in hard time at worst or a few more months in the pokey only to be released with no money, no source of income aside from the tugboat maybe a shitty place to stay in the slums of Charlottesville or some trailer park for sex offenders, into a society that both online and off will revile him and vilify him as the monster he is.

Chris's repeated use of "I" when "me" would be correct reveals a lot about his self-importance. "I" is the subject form, "me" is the object. Chris, fancying himself a deity, must at all times and in all ways be the subject of absolutely everything. That's the essential fiction underlying the Merge, is it not? All things have always already revolved around Chris and only Chris since before the beginning of time, which is now breaking into material reality so that Chris can be seated in his throne?
