Everything he has ever known for the past 40 years is now gone. He didn’t say he had a beard. He said that if Jesus didn’t have a beard, he would look like Chris. As in, Chris wants us to think that Chris and Jesus look the same except Jesus has a beard and Chris doesn’t. Chris does not want facial hair. And apparently doesn’t realize that Jesus was middle eastern. Or he thinks we’re too stupid to know he was brown.
Anyway, yes people can shave or be shaved in prison, jail, and psychiatric hospitals.

He has a right to receive mail. In jail. He’s not in prison.
The hospital has probably not been trying to make him stop believing or pretending to believe in his delusions. He might be loopier depending on what meds he’s been on.
