You're talking about Shield Arms mags, I assume. Did you get the mag catch too? They recommend metal on metal because the OEM catch on steel mags can cause issues. The steel mag catch will also eat up plastic magazines.I carry a G43 and it suits my needs. The only issue I had with it was the 10 round mag, but I found aftermarket mags which up the capacity to 15 without increasing the size, not sure how, but I ran about 50 rounds through them when I first got them and had no issues. Since then I've put a couple three hundred rounds through them and never had an issue. At the moment I'm considering getting a red dot for it, but not sure which pattern I want, and since I only just learned to shoot with both eyes open Im not sure how much advantage a red dot will really give me.
As far as red dots go, I recommend the Holosun 507-k2. It's made for compact pistols. I wouldn't say they're totally necessary but they are nice to have. It does take some practice to get used to.
