not to sound like a fudd but Glock 19s don't have manual safeties how is that safe?
Personally for a person who wants a safety the 92 isn't great unless you get one of the new expensive frame mounted options. Slide mounted sucks, decocker only G models is the way to go on slide mounted. I would say a centurion is the way to go if you want a carry gun, I kinda wish I got the centurion model.
That said I have a hard time finding 92 mags in stores. It's all Glock and SIG
Just want to extrapolate a bit on this. The safety is the most important thing in your mind when new to carrying. As it should be really. But as a person who cas carried pistols he really didn't get to choose for most his time carrying. The most important safety of all is understanding the function of the pistol. As mentioned its not particularly great to NOT be going around with one in the chamber(this will be fine as you get more comfortable with your pistol.) As mentioned before half of the 92s that exist don't have a "safety". A berreta 92 is a single double action pistol. Meaning that the first shot will be a long single action trigger pull. While every shot after will be a light trigger pull. So the "safety" on a decocked 92 comes from. The very heavy first trigger pull. Since I have a good holster(the 2nd most important thing about carrying), i maintain my pistol(the 3rd most important thing), and it's not a sig p320 (the 4th most important thing). I know that the beretta 92 will never go off in my holster even without the "safety".
Besides being super biased. I recommend the beretta (you will probably want the centurion) because it is essentially the most proven modern pistol by a significant margin when it comes to use in the field outside the 1911. I DONT recommend the 1911 because I would only ever trust models that are over $1000. Which obliterates your budget i assume. If someone tries to tell you otherwise I would be very hesitant to trust their advice. The glock 19 (or most variants really, it's all the same fucking shit) is proven in a similar way as it's the most popular handgun in America iirc. There are also parts LITERALLY everywhere for it. The beretta you will also be able to easily get parts for it... online. Sadly.
