I am not too familiar with the 40 million flavors of glock clones that exist. A glock guy would have to come in and hopefully give you an honest opinion. I would say that you can get a real glock for extremely reasonable prices considering the reliability. So it rather stick with the known factor if I have going to carry it in my pants all day.

The trigger safety is super fine. Really don't worry about it. Or at least don't let the bed the deciding factor on it. A good holster completely covers the trigger so it's almost a non factor. Going out and shooting the guns mentioned will be what you really need to decide.

Made by Langdon Tactical that could add some piece of mind, there's a video on the page that explains it's utility. It makes it similar to a DA/SA or DAO style handgun for when you're drawing and holstering to give you some more piece of mind.
Though, it's not needed and you can just train and get comfortable without spending the money on that sort of device.

Went to Bangkok the other day and headed to the range with a client and his wife just for fun. His dumb harpie of a wife had a negligent discharge with the M9 and the ricochet nearly got me. Had issues with sleeping the past few days. Y'all ever had any near-death experiences with guns and coping mechanisms?

I once had a ND with a Beretta bobcat while on a date. We were just in the woods, it went click and no bang and when I took the mag out it was empty. I failed to check the barrel (it pops up on the bobcat) and for whatever reason I cocked it, held it to the side pointed down and pulled the trigger. Missed my foot by maybe 3 inches and popped mud everywhere. I looked at my date in shock and said "whoopsies". I felt so stupid, I usually try to be so careful. I apologized and they said it was funny and we are engaged now. Earlier this year while dove hunting I was also shot by a hunter. It was at a range where most of the shot bounced off but a few pellets went through my pants. The hunter just went into his car and slumped in the drivers seat. I thought about sending shot his way or pulling the pistol out of my breast pocket but it wasn't worth it. The only time I've lost sleep was with a catastrophic failure with reloaded 9mm in a post war P38. It sent a bunch of powder in my face and produced hairline cracks in the slide itself.

Don't buy a dagger or a 3d printed 80% POS as your first handgun. It doesn't take Glock mags but the CZ P10c is by far miles ahead of a stock G19 and is usually $300 new and often bundled with a bunch of mags. Like I said though G19 will be dummy easy to find anything for locally. As much as I love the P10 being able to just go into a store and know for certain you're going to find parts or accessories for your handgun is really nice.

Yep your finger is the ultimate safety. If you don't feel comfortable carrying without a safety or one in the chamber you shouldn't be carrying.

Glock is the most popular and widespread service handgun ever manufactured and procured. A huge portion of the people who carry it in their jobs, are not that much more qualified than your average gun carrying American civilian.

It's a perfectly safe gun. And so are many other pistols that don't feature manual safeties. Mechanically, those guns are safe, and you have to misuse it to ND.

I have one of those devises. It indeed does what it says. If you block it with your thumb you are absolutely not going to be able to pull the trigger as it physically blocks the movement of the striker completely.

I used it for a bit and went back to carrying my LEM P2k instead.

sorry if this is a stupid question but are there any pistols that are as utilitarian as a normal ar-15/m-16. I know guns are like bikes and cars where people's individual needs and preferences guide what they buy but are there any pistols that are just: "gun"? Just as you get a toyota carolla for your first car,If I came you and asked for the toyota Corolla of rifles you would probably point me to a stock ar-15 with ambi safety/mag release. what is the Toyota Corolla of pistols?

Remember, glocks are know for 1 thing: being good at everything, but great at nothing. A glock 19 will be good enough for 90% of what youd want to do. Mass after market and OEM support so holsters parts and accesories are ubiquitous everywhere, small enough to conceal, large enough to shoot comfortably, chambered in 9mm, simple striker fire, and so on.
Get a glock 19.

Can I add an after market safety too? I understand it's like putting a hat on a hat, but I'm the kinda weirdo who will still pull out even if my woman is on the pill.

Well for a first time gun (for a first time owner). What more would I have to do besides home defense, range shooting, cww/open carry and the odd competition? I'm building an ar15 (because I'm a cheap fuck and building this is fun) at the moment because I want a rifle that can do anything (home defense, range, hunting, target shooting) and then specialize when I find something I like, although sights are still something I can't find what I like yet for my rifle.

You misunderstand

You'd typically want something with modularity that can take an optic and a light. G19 works fine for that tbh

For a range gun, you'd want something with a much nicer SAO trigger like a 1911 or Jericho 941/CZ75, or something more interesting or historical. Those guns however are big, SAO, and dont conceal well

If you want to conceal carry, a smaller subcompact gun may be more desireable, such as a S&W bodyguard or Glock 42/43/43x, but those guns have less support and being smaller aren't as nice to shoot.

For competition you'd want a gun built for competition, like a competition built Glock 17, CZ SP01, 1911, etc. Those however are very large guns and their features do not lend to durability, reliability with hollow points, or concealability

For each of the things you want to do, a different gun would serve you better in that endeavor, however, a glock 19 will be plenty serviceable in all those roles, where some of those other guns would do very poorly in another role (I dont care what the fudds say, a 1911 is a terrible CCW gun).

I'll never get how the PPK gained the traction it did. I first saw it in the Bond films and so I wanted to try it out. When I finally got some trigger time on one I thought, "Damn, they did James dirty with this bullshit."

And it still sells well, even at its ridiculous price point.

Maybe now it’s a hunk of junk but in 1930 there really wasn’t a better gun at that form factor. And it was a time when many people probably wanted a gun they could easily hide.

So it popped up and gained a lot of notoriety. It’s just an iconic gun.

Good Fucking riddance. I ordered a thousand rounds OF AAC 9mm 115 gr and had somewhere in the ballpark of 80-85 duds. Hope they can get their shit together.

I have a DAO 5946, despite being DAO, the trigger is very good and workable, like a DA revolver.
