Nigga, I don't like the way Glocks look. They're bulky, blocky, and ugly as fuck. However, I bought one because they just work.

Don't be a faggot, get a Glock. (An H&K is also acceptable.)

I couldn't care less about how a self defense weapon looks. What I do care about is how they shoot, and GLOCKs simply don't shoot well for me. They fit my hand poorly and I have to work harder to shoot well with them compared to other pistols. When drawing a GLOCK and bringing it on target, if I do so where it naturally feels "right" for me then the front sight is always way too high over the rear sights. I have to consciously cock my hand down to line the sights properly. Whereas with an HK, a 1911, a SIG, CZ, Beretta...pretty much most other pistols will have the sights either properly aligned, or close enough that only a minor adjustment needs to be made. I've never fired another pistol where I've had to consciously and uncomfortablt cock my hand forward/down to get the sights in alignment like I do with GLOCKs.

If GLOCKs work well for you, great. If you like them, great. They're a perfectly serviceable pistol. But they're not some be-all/end-all universal weapon for anyone and everyone. That's why there are so many different makes and models available. There's no one-size-fits-all pistol.

There's no one-size-fits-all pistol.
I agree. Can't forget about people built like this.

If the grip angle is your main problem the Ruger RXM is a glock clone that has the grip adjusted about two degrees and a lot of people seem to really prefer it over Glock glocks. I can't speak to it myself but I don't have much problem with the standard Glock grip angle

And what if you're like me and don't care for striker fired weapons at all?

Vietnamese modernised Tokarev:
Vietnam continues to manufacture the 7.62x25mm TT-33 in the form of the K14-VN, a modern...
RDT_20250909_0023067531434570083076372.webp
It appears that Vietnam's initial production of Tokarevs was a direct clone of the Chinese Type 54 handguns they'd received as aid during the war - direct enough that they essentially kept the designation, merely translating "Type" into Vietnamese "Kiểu loại" and retaining the numeral. However, as Vietnam began to modernise small arms in the early 21st century, the obsolescence of the weapon and degradation of those units in inventory spurred the development of a modernised variant, whose initial units were sent to the military for testing starting in 2014.

The Z111 state arms factory accordingly developed the K14-VN, whose features are summarised by state media: ...The research team of the Z111 factory made some improvements to the barrel, breech block, gun body, magazine, and researched changes to make the joints more precise, ensuring the gun operates more reliably and accurately. [...] It is larger than the K54, resulting in a longer breech block, a longer [127mm] barrel, and especially the gun body is not only longer but also larger to hold a larger [13 round] magazine.

So...Vietnam copying China's homework, who copied the Soviet Union's homework, who themselves just took America's and Europe's homework and made slight changes to avoid being accused of cheating. I guess what they say is true: everything that's old will eventually become new again.

I'd trust a Vietnamese gun over a Turkish one any day.

I am not tired of this rifle, these weapons.
I am not tired of seeing it caught in the tangle of a fight for freedom.

I always thought Glocks pointed more naturally with an old-school one handed grip. So i wasn't surprised when i learned that the Austrian pistol trials included shooting groups bullsye style (remember, the guys designing the trial would have been born in the 1930s and 40s most likely)

Very interesting point, I do about 90% of my pistol shooting one-handed since back when I shot competitively that was part of our ruleset. That's roughly the stance I use, just with my loose hand's thumb hooked in my pocket/beltloop

Something mysterious out of Russia. Recently some photos were taken of Russian SF during training with ADS Amphibious rifles
The rifles have muzzle devices (probably suppressors) that as far as I know have never been seen before and there exists no other images of. All photos of Suppressed ADS rifles have featured conventional cylindrical suppressors.

1757436402757.webp

I say they're suppressors because
1. They're probably not some kind of underwater specific muzzle device
-1.1 because ADS's have been perfectly capable of doing so previously without them
-1.2 I may just be unimaginative but I can't think of how adding some kind of fancy muzzle device would improve underwater performance

2. Don't think they're BFA's
-2.1 While I personally have never seen a photo of an ADS with a BFA, Rosoboronexport states they come with one
-2.2 I don't think a BFA for a 5.45 weapon would be that big, but then again this is an underwater rifle
-2.3 Can you even realistically expect even a specially made BFA to get a specially made rifle to cycle?
-2.4 what would even be the point of underwater blank fire

3. Don't think they're laser units
-3.1 Don't even think the RUAF uses laser training systems

I got an appendix holster and I am very very surprised by how comfortable it is both sitting and standing. This is the first time I've really felt like losing weight has given me access to something.

Fantastic. When driving, tuck the seatbelt behind your gun's grip and on your belly/undershirt. Important for not getting your guts crushed by a pound or so of metal if in a crash. Also, get plenty of reps in drawing your gun and finding your sights. Might feel silly at first, but its valuable training.

Buds visit AAR:

They did not have the gun i wanted in stock at the store (but it is in their warehouse? don't know how that works) so I didn't buy anything except 2 boxes of .357, two pounds of H110 powder and a box of Hornady .452 cal 225gr FTX ballistic tips to load for my .45 Colt.

I did take some photos of some of the guns that stood out to me:
IMG_1465.webp

They had this used Dark Mountain arms bolt action 9x19. this gun weighed almost nothing and had a smooth bolt. it reminded me of the assassins gun in "the day of the jackal" The bolt was smooth when i worked it. Threaded for a Supressor and it has a wire stock. single shot of course and a 16 inch barrel. pretty neat. IIRC they wanted about $400 for it.
IMG_1464.webp

Next to the above gun there was a few of these Ruger 10/22 wood stocked rifles with various things carved in the stocks. this was the most amusing.

in the expensive part of the store (indicated by the wood paneling and signs forbidding you from holding the guns without a sales associate with you they had various engraved and well stock shotguns and rifles:
IMG_1474.webp

A very nicely engraved Beretta 486 parallelo, which is Beretta's offering for the high end SxS shotgun market. this one was 1 of 486 in this config apparently. they wanted almost 10k for it.
Underneath this beretta was a fine high condition provincial english Boxlock which i neglected to photograph. It was nice though, full case colors remaining and a nicely done dolls head rib extension. 3k for that one.
IMG_1473.webp

A pair of nice winchester model 70 rifles. engraved with nice wood. unfortunately in two dead cartridges. would not buy. A rifle in the same config in .338 or .30-06? I might have been persuaded.
IMG_1472.webp

An limited edition Marlin 1895 with engraving. they had 3 of these IIRC and wanted around 3k for them. notice spiral fluted bolt.
IMG_1475.webp

A Ruger red label with wooden side plates. This is similar a Bar-in-wood action which was common for the first generation of breech loading shotguns in the 1860s. pretty neat. decent price too. these red labels were well made and have a collectors following now.
IMG_1471.webp

This was pretty cool. Its a manurhin in .32 long. For some reason I've always wanted one, but not enough to spend that much on it. They also had some MR73 .357's for around $4,300/
Something strange i noticed, They had Several Colt Anacondas on offer (but not the one i wanted) but the price in store was $150-200 more than the price on their online store. a little strange.

They also have a Colt Manufacturing .45-70 Gatling gun with gun carriage and ammunition storage:

Might want to check this video out and rethink that position.

TLDW: putting the seatbelt on your belly isn’t great idea. It’s designed to interface with your hips.

Appendix carry makes concealing even a full sized gun with an optic trivial.

Damn, that is fairly convincing. Every operating out of a vehicle course I've ever taken (two) has taught me to put the seatbelt behind the gun in case of an accident, but I think this guy might have it right.

I was always told that the gun being behind the belt would cause injury. If you need to draw belt comes unclipped while you draw as one motion so shouldn't be a consideration, and he drove that home pretty well.
