Anybody have experience hunting coyotes with thermals? I have no experience with thermals other than the IR camera I use for diagnostics on hydraulics and wiring.

All this NATO standardization makes me somewhat sad. I get the AR is like the best thing ever and all that but at this rate everyone is just going to look like American soldiers.Speaking of service rifles, Finland officially announced NATO standardization on small arms calibers earlier this week:
Conscript trials with new Sako made assault rifles going to begin next year:

You're carrying a gun on the off chance you'll need it to defend your life but you'll never experience poor lighting conditions? I mean you're even carrying OWB, there's really zero reason not to.Who is going to find themselves needing to shoot something (in total darkness)
What would you like to know? Differences in quality? Ease of use? Ideal range for identification (which will vary based upon quality)?Anybody have experience hunting coyotes with thermals? I have no experience with thermals other than the IR camera I use for diagnostics on hydraulics and wiring.
If you SBR a gun that already has a serial, you still need to add your name/trust and your city/state. that being said you don't have to add a new serial number. The only time you have to add a serial number is when you're doing it to an 80%
Yeah, I wouldn't do it on anything that couldn't be hidden on the bottom of the receiver lmao. It takes some practice too. I usually end up refinishing the firearms that get letter punched. They get masked up then clamped in something soft. It also helps keep things straight if you start in the middle of the word and work outward. I'll also square up a piece of scrap metal to brace the punch against sort of like a guide trackIf you SBR a gun that already has a serial, you still need to add your name/trust and your city/state. that being said you don't have to add a new serial number.
AFAIK this is because you become "the manufacturer"
I'm like 99% sure. (it would be sick if i was wrong tbh)
Also I've done some tests with punches, it's very hard to get a letter that matches the ATFs engraving requirements and also not fuck up the receiver
If we all adopt multicam, I agree. But just adopting an AR-15 with different flavours (the Sako AR actually has a gas system that is closer to the M14 than SVT-40/G43), it's not that different from what was going on 100 years ago with the Mauser system. Back then, major nations had more variety, but pretty much everyone else bought a Mauser. All this NATO standardization makes me somewhat sad. Not a perfect 1-1, but there's an entire rabbit hole on youtube about pest control (foxes and rats mostly) using thermal scopes in the UK of all places. I found this channel by accident a couple years ago but it's far from the only one.Anybody have experience hunting coyotes with thermals? What do I need to identify and engage coyotes at 100-200m and can I even afford it?What would you like to know? Differences in quality? Ease of use? Ideal range for identification (which will vary based upon quality)?

Imagine all the 5320.20 forms you get to fill out in the future.Imagine not SBR'ing every gun you have during the amnesty period for free and not needing any engraving.
Prolly feels bad.
Not an issue for me. I wouldnt bother anyway.Imagine all the 5320.20 forms you get to fill out in the future.

I've got a AGM rattler TS19-256 which as far as I'm aware is the cheapest of the rattler family and can usually be found for 900 ish. Now it's fine for engaging and identifying hogs at 100-200 but I'm not sure if I'd trust it on identifying a coyote as opposed to a dog. Most of the identifying of coyote vs dog is in how they move though a field and that will take sitting out and watching them come to a bait call and then cussing yourself for passing on something you were almost sure was a coyote. One of my buddies has a better thermal and his is a little bit better at telling the difference while being a lot more expensive but he still ends up passing on a lot of shots because the probably coyote was holding it's head wrong or running like a dog instead of a coyote. What do I need to identify and engage coyotes at 100-200m and can I even afford it?
DPM is dope. I like the aesthetic of L85, purely because of Battlefield 2 lolIt and the Multicam obsession really ruins the charm of some of the smaller NATO frens. British DPM and the AUG are some of the most aesthetic military pieces of kit out there IMO. I like the aesthetics of the L85 even if the hive mind likes to shit on it.

Someone really needs to make a modern submacinegun firing refined and optimized captive piston ammunition. Imagine an MP5SD that is significantly smaller than an MP5SD. Tax stamps are going to be free soon, Use ChatGPT or something to to generate 50,000 Form 1's and get to lathing. I have no doubts modern machines, materials designs and powder couldn't make captive piston ammo like 5% better across the board.Soviet SMP derringer, with captive-pistona ammunition for KGB use:
