You should be fucking BANNED for suggesting that Tool is anything close to nu metal, you no nothing Bandwidth whore. I hope you, your family, and your friends all get cancer of the fucking larynx. I pray that something crushes your one good testicle so you can't spread your seed, you piece of Iraqi SHIITE.

Excuse the rant, but that pissed me off.

Shut the fuck up.

I don't wish cancer on anybody, but I do hope you get a hangnail on every one of your fingers to make you stop typing up useless posts like that one. My cousin is wiccan, I can make things happen, bitch.

To answer your question Tulvox, Tool aren't nu-metal, but they aren't metal either, so any way you look at it they won't be archived

Oh boy, I have quite a bit of experience with these douchnozzles.

Back in 2008 I was "friends" with a few ultra-edgy elitist death metal fans. One of them harassed this one guy for his music tastes and legit threatened to kill him. Typical Internet Tough Guy shenanigans.

Then in 2010 when Paul Grey from Slipknot and The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold died, they celebrated their deaths because they felt they were "faggots" who didn't deserve to live. But they sure mourned Ronnie James Dio's death.

These people tend to be hypermasculine, misogynist and homophobic dudebros. The most insufferable, egotistical, hypocritical motherfuckers you'll meet. I mean, I like metal and all, but people who listen exclusively to one genre are just boring at best.

It seems most people start to really care about music in their mid-late teens. High school, and to a much lesser extent college, kids place a huge amount of their identity on liking the "right" bands and knowing everything about them. Similarly, that makes me feel like this kind of music snobbery is extremely juvenile. I don't care if you're a music professor in your 60s or a 30-year-old metal forum member... if you have time in your life to dress me down because I don't care who opened for what band in 1987, I'm filing you away with kids who aren't old enough to drive yet.
When I was in high school I used to make fun of all the metalcore kids, but it's ok because they were false-metal posers.

I've been into metal since 1987, and as time went on, the less I cared about the posers, bitchiness and trends. I've always laughed at the elitists, having known quite a few. These mummy's boys (many of them live with their moms) are missing the point. Metal is about anarchy and rebellion against the social robots, not being one. Or worse, some kind of "boss." Sadly, some online metal fans are indeed the biggest load of whining and preening pussies in all existence. I totally gave up on sites like Blabbermouth, because I could no longer stomach the "opinions" of lightweight posers and hipsters. That said, cool rock people (like many I see here) I have tons of time for.
My advice to any young metal dude (or dudette) is to love the music, and simply not give a ball what some part-time metal mallcop thinks. Have fun, stick on some Priest and be proud of your steel!

I was just gonna post about Varg, ha. I think he's definitely a lolcow and I actually talked to him on Youtube a bit (:powerlevel::powerlevel::powerlevel:). He told me his kids know that he killed Euronymous and he's raising them to follow his neo-nazi beliefs :|

Anyone who burns down a bunch of churches and murders people just for being mildly annoying and then gets out of prison in time to continue a career is doing something right.

He just attracts like-minded, edgy douchebags.

Anyway, want to know a good way to attract crazy elitists?

Go on any rock &/or metal forum or comment section, make a post like "Slipknot is the best black metal band ever!"... or "Load and Reload were Metallica's best albums!", then wait for the 'tard rage.

Or make a post like "Marilyn Manson is the best Goth singer/musician ever!" and you'll get a similar reaction.

As for black Metal I liked when Ihsahn, the singer of Emperor was asked why they stopped wearing the "Kiss"-style corpse paint..."Because it's gay." Was his wonderfully glib reply. Cue all the Burzum posers going into a rage at Emperor. (Who with Immortal, happen to be the finest black metal bands, in my humble view)

A good friend of mine from high school turned into an obnoxious metal elitist. We used to listen to all kinds of music together, and he took up guitar and I played bass and we wrote all sorts of songs and whatever. Then he started getting really weird. Gave me his entire CD collection, then talked a bunch of shit about me for accepting it because "it's all just boy band shit" and he'd totally outgrown it. Most of it was like Megadeth, Rammstein, Maiden, Priest, stuff like that. And at 100+ CDs I wasn't about to say no.

Now he listens to nothing but bands like Dark Tranquillity and Soilwork (the only two I remember), and has to constantly tell everyone that he does, while making sure to remind them that their music is for pussies. He can't accept anymore that different people like different things, and he'll insist it's because others just are too stupid and shallow to grasp the intricate melodies and deep lyrics like he can. He always buys extra tickets to go to these concerts then goes on Facebook trying to find others to join him. He never finds any takers, then melts down when someone inevitably mentions they've never heard of the bands.

He's not even fun to jam with because now he just wants to play the riffs to these metal songs instead of making up anything new. And gets really pissed about dumb shit. Like how Psychostick is one of my favorite bands. He fucking hates them because they "waste their talent" playing comedy music. It's a shame because most of the songs we would make up were comedy stuff, but now he gets all worked up over how humor shouldn't be in music at all.

He's actually done this before on other things, like cars, motorcycles, and video games where his is the best, you're just too stupid to understand, how DARE you like something different, but he always got over it. The metal thing seems here to stay though and it's about depressing.

I agree with most of you. I don't know how musical evolution is really a bad thing, It worked out for the bands who play their style to pander to the braindead teens of today. Whatever works, I can't hate on it. If you wanna make trap music, go ahead, if you wanna make deathcore, go ahead, make that money.

People crying about trivial shit like this are the same people who said that Metallica would never fit in when they started the whole thrash thing and said it was a bullshit genre. The modern styles of music can be done right now that I think about it. Whitechapel did a fine job with their releases on a technical level. I guess it's subjective. Of course there's stereotypes.

You gotta make room for evolution and accept it, or at least share a valid opinion to why you dislike something instead of sperging. It's just good to keep things fresh.

I miss This is Exile. One of my favorite albums from the late 2000s. And you're right, Our Endless War was just as technical as the others, it just felt off for some reason. Maybe they way they mixed it?
Yeah, probably. I really like to listen to a lot of stuff so that my ears can adjust to each album, and for some reason, the newer stuff managed to feel tighter to me.

Dude, I fucking love Godzilla. Have you seen all of the movies?

People who get angry, genuinely angry, while defending their entertainment tastes have always puzzled me.

If you like it, fine.... personal taste follows no rule.

But, it also carries no great significance.

It's your preference. That's where it starts and ends.

The angry fan, be they a fan of a musical genre, a television show or a film series, wailing about how only they (or those like them) have the right tastes and everyone else has the wrong ones, and turn the whole thing into identity politics, are missing the point of personal taste.

Music is an escape to me, I listen to what I like, I don't want or NEED it to be about reinforcing my life choices or making a statement........ yeah, I know things like punk and metal grew out socio-political movements, but, my response to that is "oh, neat" and not "DOWN WITH YOU CONFORMISTS WHO DON'T GET MY EDGE!" When your entertainment is riling you up so you can't, well, relax, what's the point? And they tend to get even angrier when the trend they're riding dies out and is replaced by the next one, because now they're expending energy hating the old style their superior music finally replaced, and, this new garbage that ruined utopia forever.....

Calm down, that can't be good for your heart.

I was very, very briefly active on a Black Metal forum when I was trying to learn more about the genre, but left when it turned out half of the members were Nazis, and 90% of the people are fucking 100% super-serious all the time. Fun and humor? Apparently not metal. Also if you listened to any music other than metal, you weren't a real metal head. If you listened to any type of metal other than black metal, you were a poser.

That was also the website where I encountered a young man who's ultimate goal was to get a PhD in Archaeology. There's no way he was actually in grad school at that time, because his doctoral dissertation was that he was going to prove that the pyramids were built not buy the Jews, not by the Egyptians, but by ancient Aryans.

Naturally, the best poster on the forum was a guy who was staunchly anti-Nazi and his avatar was Elmo dressed like a glam rocker. I don't remember his name, but :semperfidelis: to that guy.

I've never met any metal elitist in real life, but I'm sure I'd piss them off:
Dimmu Borgir owns
My favorite Emperor album is Prometheus
I like some nu metal bands

Come at me, bro.

Now that you mention it, I did once know a guy who accused Dethklok, a fictional band, of "selling out" when an actual album was produced by the show's musicians..... it boggles the mind.

It's a shame this thread died so early . There must be more lulzy content in a subculture that favours unpronounceable
band names such as Brenoritvrezorkre , Nœuvrbtraurvne and Xbagzarath.
If not the artists themselves , at least the elitists who collect this überkvlt , extremely lo-fi stuff must be autistic

The name Brenoritvrezorkre is written in Gloatre, a language invented by Vordb Dréagvor Uèzréèvb.
