Minecraft

Anyone here use Planet MC still? I've been browsing it a bit lately after logging into my old account. It's fun to look around on. There's some pronoun people on it, but they can mostly be ignored. I found this texture pack that replaces all of the villagers faces with a random old woman.
There's some goon mods for the game on the texture pack section.

Did anyone here play on a server called "mc.catserve.net" or the survival-focused alternate, "surv.catserve.net"? It's a server I played a lot when I was younger. Shut down now unfortunately. Not asking to reveal your username.

Also, seeing people run with the usual "well, kids will enjoy it" as if kids don't enjoy drinking whatever they find under the kitchen sink. I've said this over a dozen times: something doesn't get a free pass because "it's for kids".
I really do hate that excuse people give, "it's for kids." Wanna know what else was "for kids?"
I know it's Teen Titans but I liked watching it when I was a lad. But I could also mention Invader Zim, Flapjak had some wild moments (really the whole show was wild), a friend of mine had some recordings of "The Animals of Farthing Wood" too. Hell, go back to 1940 and watch Pinocchio.

I already said this in the other thread but all they had to do was have Jack Black Steve mine and build and do cool shit and I would've given it a thumbs up.
Why is this such a hard concept? Why do movie studios keep sending boring people to cool fantasy worlds?
I'm not finished. Believe it or not, I am *genuinely* upset at this.

I know people are shitting on the choice of Jack Black but honestly, seeing him as Steve actually kinda got me hyped.
He's exactly the sort of expressive husky guy that would've been perfect for the role. I could 100% see him roaming around the countryside, doing cool wilderness stuff.

That llama at the end of the trailer. The way they hold the shot on it.
It's like they knew how disgusting it was and wanted to punish the viewer by making you look at it.
Honestly, this entire film just feels like a punishment for Minecraft fans.
Hmm. Seems they're going for the Roblox audience!

Said it before, I'll say it again. Spite is the ultimate motivator. While I doubt the movie was made out of spite for Minecraft fans for...existing I guess, there's definitely a lot of it. I've seen people burn metric tons of money, God only knows how much, on pure spite projects.

Wanted to see If I could find some early life shennanigans in regards to the crew, but nothing interesting. Just seems like ESG from Warner bros is fucking with it.

Interestingly for such a hot property like minecraft, it seems to have a crew with not much background in movies, just spread out over a longer time period.

Interesting, he also worked on Nacho Libre.

🤦

They've totally broken the utility of ender pearls randomly in the latest snap shot and made them very vaguely directional chorus friit....

They've been in the game over 10y, no one asked for this and you've made them from extremely useful items that you pretty much always want a couple of in your inventory (...they still only stack to 16 also...) And you know it's gonna end up getting reverted, but why? Which dev wasted what's probably a 8mo job at Mojang speed doing this?

This after they try to fix the bundle again as they recognise too many items with little or utterly no function. They're hinting at going back to the drawing board with combat again... I can't see breaking oearks helping this at all.

Man the Dev and direction of this games so fucked lol.

Maybe FlowerChild and Better Than Wolves were right.

Why is every snapshot full of shit literally nobody asked for? It feels like nobody at Mojang is an actual part of the community so they come up with retarded ideas that no real Minecraft player ever would think of.

The frustrating part is that every misfeature disproves the notion that Mojang's soydevs are somehow struggling (through no fault of their own) to add more features than modders. If they have the time and resources to fuck with ender pearls like this, why don't they have the time to add literally anything useful people want? (Besides that they just wasted it on this pearl faggotry of course.)

But I'm sure Mojang simps will come up with an excuse for why they can't add anything that's actually good.

Edit: Watched the video, it appears to be unintended. I don't know why Mojang don't do the bare minimum of testing. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to check "does the ender pearl work good at all" even for a snapshot.

Its listed as an issue now

Maybe I'm too conspiratorial but does it really look like a bug from Phoenix's video, or does it see. Like a back pedal? More stupid fiddling with bundles aswell. Know why bundles are so complicated and hard to get right? You keep tucking with em!

There's a few small potentially cool small additions - for example its now possible for a data/resource pack to have a custom armor model. Not just texture or some weird hack with an armor stand. That's incredibly niche but alright I do like little features like that in general.

At large though yes I agree with you. I do joke about Notch being a magical Minecraft god who could fix the game overnight, let's be honest he couldn't make it that much worse but I don't think his attitude and personality (work/Dev wise, and interpersonal/mental health) but damn man, since Microsoft took over its been so much non-stop shite, then big silent gaps, then the odd years requested feature ,(cave update for example) gets half implemented (...over 3 full releases, while Notch would bring it out over like, 3-5 secret Friday updates and actually take feedback and develop features live, I realise the early Mojang dev environment wouldn't work at today's scale of Mojang, although a lot of that but not all is Microsoft corporate bloat over a decade) to keep us sweet.

I'll never stop liking the core game loop I think. I will always check out updates... But time and again Microsoft prove the writing was on the wall from that very day.

Microsoft and current Mojang are cancer, but thy got nout to do with your nice girl lol.

Also unrelated....
I'm so tempted sometimes to power level a little about an OG (more or less anyway) mojagster I used to know from staffing a game hacking forum, but most of the history isn't ginna be that interesting here to most unless I do a big thread on the game itself, but they didn't do much of note other than some software/apps they made, and the fact they've forum staff.

We met may before Minecraft was even a twinkle in Notches bollocks

I don't think it's worth it and I've not spoken to em in 10+y but I never get the chance to bring it up lol

What format? I hope it's the Quake 3 format that Notch added in indev and then deleted immediately afterwards.
Lol I assume it'll be some bastardisation of JSON or something like their other custom model formats, but it would be cool in some situations

About a year, maybe two, back I stuck every behaviour pack, addon etc I could find that was like a traditional mod (this was before the recent FTB tinkers etc, it was all free and downloaded it externally), and then I hosted it on a bedrock server I could even join with my Xbox etc (using the proxy method on my android-phone). It was pretty cool. I know MS are such money grubbers they'd ever make that an option, especially free, and it didn't hold a candle to Java modpacks, but some of the tools they do make available (limited as they are) and even more so how they push the limits with these systems produce some really, Really cool stuff

I imagine most here are M+KB purists especially for Minecraft, but if have killed for like, Tekkit on cinsole back in the day even if I've always played Java.

There's a billion amazing avenues, ideas and work done by the community over the years that would have steered the game in such a better way, it's pretty sad really.

I'm sure Microsoft made their money back and then some hundreds of thousands of times over, and maybe that contributed to the dev attitude, we've got ours now, but man...

You guys are they made bedrock modding even harder than it has to be by no longer bundling the symbols and other shit in a file now? Notch promised a mod API (granted, he flipped between mods as we know them and server plugins many times back then but...) Since Alpha. How long has Dinnerbone been there, whose server fork Bukkit started the server plugin ecosystem (very primitive and not really plugins beforehand, more like hacks).... Like 14y?

Sigh, sigh, sigh. Not 100% where I was trailing off to at the end there a little lol but thanks for coming to my TedTalk TedAutisticRant.
