Monster Hunter Community Thread - A thread for discussing the Monster Hunter games and its community.

Not all QoL = dumbing down. Being forced to take paintballs after all the other stuff we have to take in Worlds would be terrible, and no longer in the "it's inventory management" way.
You only need paintballs until you learn the map and the monster after that you'll know where the monster will be. After that you only ever used paintballs online as a common curtesy to your fellow hunters unless you are a LS user that interrupts everyone and hits the bombs before everyone sets them (Yeah I am calling you out LS players).

Worldbabby here, currently playing the old-gen games (4U, GenU, not sure if I should play Tri or 3U now that Loc Lac is restored, etc.)
As a lifelong Tri lover I would say yes, but if I have to be honest no world is a perfectly serviceable game that removes a lot of grind/downtime that I don't think a lot of new players would enjoy. However, I do prefer the older games more methodical/punishing gameplay as unlike the newer games movement and positioning were mandatory.

nah

Those are all completely optional and not even necessary Kulve is not grindy the rng is more an issue and the fight can be fun. Safi is not fun i'll give you that, and yes the guiding lands suck I can't defend it at least if you really want those upgrades you can go online and find people with the levels you need or just cheat because as someone who did guiding lands legit I regret every moment of it.

If fighting a monster twice (because randoms cant single siege for shit) across 20 minutes just for a chance to roll a slot machine of over 100 weapons and hopefully getting the one you want isn't grindy then I don't know what is.
Oh no fighting a monster twice my god it's almost like the game is all about fighting monsters. All drops are rng and just because you can't solo Kulve (which is not that hard) is not an issue to me. Events/End game content in all rpgs tend to be grindy and difficult as they are designed for the more extreme end of players. Most players don't even get out of high rank.

God forbid you play the older games and sometimes have to hunt a certain monster over 30 times for a gem or mantle.

Fighting a monster twice for the opportunity retard. For any other monster you hunt it once and get your rewards, Kulve was literally designed in such a way that you're intended to get kicked back to the lobby and do the same fight 2 or 3 times before you get your actual rewards. Even if you are soloing Kulve because you went back to it with G rank gear it doesn't change the fact that Kulves grind is monumentally shittier compared to any other monster because the drop table is filled with literal fodder weapons that only exist to dilute the item pool. Let's put that into perspective.

Here are the possible drops from a high rank Lagiacrus in 3U.

And here's the possible weapon drops you get from Kulve.

And 90% of it is fodder. At least with normal monster drops you're still progressing towards the gear you want since gear uses more parts than just mantles and gems. That doesn't exist with Kulve, there is no progression towards obtaining the weapon you want, you either have it or you don't. My buddy and I hunted 27 Diablos in 3U to get 2 hardhorns to drop for his greatsword set, but it doesn't even begin to compare to the literal hundreds of Kulves we had to hunt just to get the Dual Blades I wanted. The only nigger who comes close to being as bad as Kulve is fucking Safi who has the same weapon slot machine but with an added augment slot machine just to make his weapons useable. I love hunting monsters, I do not love hunting the same monster hundreds of times in a row and making zero progress towards my goal.

If your on PC and not using meld pot mod for kulve weapons, you might be retarded. Ironically i loved the kulve fight going for horn breaks was great fun when the fat bitch was rolling everywhere. But i am biased i loved the Kulve layered design.

Also fuck Lance. Gunlance is kino.

MH has a very unique community in that the game itself is quirky and upbeat, the collabs are unique and odd, yet the game boils down to boss rushing; something that leads people to be elitist about playing the game casually, while not being ballsy enough to start competing properly. It's basically a community of sideline coaches at a kids soccer game.
I've made hundreds of necks in Rise and not once gotten one I'd consider more than QoL or "cozy". Which means I can't make a viable build. :)

Swear to god the amount of people I've seen complaining about longsword being able to negate attacks as they eat shit to the tenth Rathian tail flip that hunt while simultaneously shitting on every other weapon. Imagine the aneurism these coaches would have if they found out the myriads of ways the lance can delete attacks, especially in Rise. Also yearning for the day Capcom removes the slot machine and just lets me craft decos and charms the way I want them.

Craftable Kulve weapon mod came out two years too late for me. :lossmanjack:
MR Kulve is fun though, only gripe is her flee mechanic.

I like killing the big gold dragon even though I get nothing :)

perhaps autism
Indeed the game is all about fun if you don't enjoy it don't do it. @Freelance Police would rather cry about how not ever single aspect of a game is not tailored to his tastes. Some people enjoy insane grinds I personally do not therefore I do not take part in it instead of whining about it.
Lance is the weapon of gods and kings in every MH game to have ever been released, fight me
Lance is one of the worst weapons however it is not bad. Animation cancelling and ignoring the monster's personal space is your bread and butter. Also if you are playing online you can make a sort of support tank build that allows for people to go more offensive. I use lance when I played with newer players to help them learn the monster.

Lance is very far from worst weapon, the worst is probably the gunlance because of how severely shelling damage gets shafted in scaling towards the end of every game it has appeared in.

In older games lance is rocksteady and reliable, with great accuracy and range to hit anywhere on the monster you want. Lance was the king of underwater combat in the 3rd generation, its the only other weapon besides insect glaive to have a mounting move you can whip out anywhere (leaping charge) and the adept and striker styles for it in MHGU were fun and competitive. In World its one of the most satisfying weapons to play in my opinion with how many options you have with your shield blocks and counters, and its one of the only weapons besides hammer to really take advantage of clutchclaw attacks. In Rise, lance's wirebug skills are some of the most satisfying to pull off in the whole game, too.

No other weapon gives the same rush when you're locked in against something, the aggression just feels so imcredibly good to keep up and no other weapon even has the option to go blow for blow quite like the lance does unless you get really autistic with charge blade guard points

That's fair you sound like you have a lot more experience with lances. I am personally not a fan of any lance weapons though your response does make it sound appealing. I tend to only play one type of weapon per character/game. I used a insect glaive in world and a great sword in tri and most other games. I personally like the great sword or hammer nothing beats perfectly timing a charge attack to interrupt a monster mid attack.

I literally said I liked MR Kulve. You're trying to argue that World cut out a lot of the grinding, despite the fact that World introduced four of the most tedious boring grinds that the franchise has ever known, two of which are slot machines, with one of them having an additional slot machine just to augment the weapon you won. Whether or not I choose to engage with the problem doesn't change the fact that the problem exists. I like optimizing my shit so I have no choice but to engage with it. Just because I like a game doesn't mean I can't be critical of it. Anomaly grind in Sunbreak sucks and charm/qurio slot machine is shit, 4U has a shit roster and has the worst maps, 3U and Tri don't even have equipment sets and most underwater fights are just copy pasted iterations of Lagiacrus's moveset, elders in Dos have an artificially short timer to force you to engage with their shitty roaming mechanic, and MH1 is overall ass to play. Sorry that Monster Hunter isn't a perfect series, grow a spine.
