Visually, at least, it's impressive. I'm going to roll my eyes so hard if the kids pop up again though. Would be nice if we could finally move past this continuity.
I imagine they will appear as "Kameo's" and either outright not explained or a halfassed "memory of Liu Kang" sort of deal. Actual roster seems to be MK2, so I imagine it will be those characters with a twist "Sonnia is a bonnie and Clyde with Johnny and Kano is a glownigger, kabal isn't a pizza face and scorpion and sub zero are gay lovers" and some new characters

I'm hoping the story, if there even is one, is at least digestible. The first reboot was a headache of bad decisions.
It will be full of shocking character deaths and unexpected plot twists that put the characters into scenarios that we never could have imagined, with profound and weighty consequences, and then the next game will bring back the MK1-3 roster again. Feels like they've already used every possible reset button: time travel, alternate universe, everybody magically comes back to life, and prequel (sorta).

NR is also breaking new ground in goofy meme titles so I'm already curious what the title of the next one could possibly be. Mortal Kombat Zero? Mortal Kombat 13? The Mortal Kombat? Mortal Kombats? Mortal Kombat 1 II? Or just put the dragon logo with no title, like a Led Zeppelin album.

Like, I expected that Liu Kang, Raiden, Scorpion and Sub Zero would return. It's just kind of a given with how the last game ended and the ninjas practically being the mascots.

But the fact that this trailer doesn't show *any* new characters (I think, I assume the Shaolin shown are human Raiden and Kung Lao) just leads me to believe that yeah, this is just going to be another re-tread of MK 1-3 *again*

  • Preorders for the game are now open and will get players Shang Tsung as a playable character. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players who preorder will also get access to its beta this August. The base game will retail for $70 on all platform
  • There will also be a $110 Premium Edition that adds a Johnny Cage character skin fashioned after Jean-Claude Van Damme, early access to six characters, and five new Kameo fighters. A $250 Kollector’s Edition will include all that, plus a 16.5 inch Liu Kang sculpture and more.

So if you dare wait until after release to see just how broken it is before plonking down your hard-earned $70, you don't even get the entire character roster of the base game.

It's so fucking brazen. I still can't believe millions of people tolerate this shit every time it happens.

I thought Aftermath teased the next MK would be set in the time of The Great Kung Lao and the tournament in which he saved Earthrealm from invasion?
Did they decide to axe that?
Because otherwise why the hell are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Johnny Cage among the cast? These people shouldn't be around yet.

So, per the specifications on Steam, MK12 is going to be 100GB. Fucking why though? It's a 1v1 fighting game that's practically still in the framework of the 2D days for shit's sakes, not fucking RDR2.

Optimization is a dead art, innit?

Edit to avoid being a fag and double posting - I've been seeing a few people (could just be one guy with some alts) saying that they've heard the file size is because Konquest a la MK Deception is coming back, so we'll have an Open World mode. Considering the game has literally a trailer and a release date for "shit we know about it", this sounds like someone talking out their ass, but hey - it'd be something of a reason for the bloated file size, but I'm skeptical.

A recent theory I heard is that it's to make you less likely to uninstall the game

I only have MKX on steam and it's already 77 GB. So 100 GB for this one isn't that much bigger, doubt that means a new mode.
Games are just unnecessarily bloated in general, and these fighting games (SFV is pushing 50 GB too) take the retard cake. It's like they get paid by the megabyte.

I'd feel like it's the opposite. It being big makes a need to uninstall it in the first place, to free up space. And when freeing up space you start with the big ones you can miss. A full hard drive is a bigger and more common issue than having to wait an hour or 2 on an install (compared to, say, 30 mins).

At least personally, I'm more reticent to delete a game if I know it'll take more time to download. I delete Hollow Knight all the time because I only play it once a blue moon but I can download it in minutes. Granted, I have more hard drive space than I'll ever use, so take that for what its worth.

Regarding the size being so massive, I wonder if its something like the original Titanfall where they did stupid shit like not compressing any of the audio, which meant the game was 35gb of audio and 13gb of literally everything else.

Yeah it must be for some kind of reason like that, to save time and effort. Leaving things uncompressed when it could be, leaving old versions of stuff that could be cleaned up, who knows. I'm no expert on what it takes to make a game, but I'm sure a lot of data is produced during development that is gonna bloat the package if you don't spend man-hours cleaning it up.

Alternatively, it's hard for me to believe people are this retarded, but there could actually be a feeling of accomplishment from making a giant game with big juicy numbers. In a similar way that people sit at their desks doing nothing until they are the last to leave. 'Big bytes mean we spent big hours on it'

Seems Amazon leaked the DLC characters:
Quan Chi, Omni Man, Ermac, Takeda (ugh), Peacemaker and Homelander
Along with Kameo characters (excluding Johnny since he was previously mentioned):
Tremor, Khameleon, Mavado and Ferra
Y'know, I wouldn't be as annoyed with Guest Characters if they kept them at 1:1 with returning or Legacy characters, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on them keeping to that ratio.

These Guests are just going to instantly date this game though.
