NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

I want Smash to have diversity quota characters now. I want them to throw in some random generic black man as a character that isn't from anything and fill his moveset with racist stereotypes. That would probably make these people happy too.

What, Doc Louis being Little Mac's trainer isn't enough?

It's like these people can't understand that Super Smash Bros is a Nintendo game using in majority Nintendo's characters or closely associated... which for the most part came from games created in Japan. You know... a country with a really low number of black people in its population and even less in the past.

Most of the characters in it aren't meant to be "white" but to be japanese (Mario being a stereotypical italian man being one of the only exception) and their "whiteness" comes from the manga/anime style... What's next ? Will they be shoked to discover there's more "white people" than "black people" in Naruto ?

I skimmed the thread, and there are various "black" and "brown" characters in the game, but they don't count for some reason another. "They aren't dark enough" being a common one, and "They're a palette swap" being another. Any character that is an assist trophy also doesn't count because reasons.

Most of the bans are for "trolling" when people point to character like Donkey Kong, Piranha Plant, and Game and Watch as being black. I didn't bother capping those.

Banned for liking Isaac more than Twintelle?

These reactions went on for almost an entire page.

Yeah, I've been waiting for this one. This same argument happened with Smash 4 and the initial launch of Mario Kart 8. Honestly what black characters that aren't side characters or ones you'll see for maybe half a second are in Nintendo games and relevant enough to warrant a place in Smash? I can only think Mr. Sandman from Punch Out off the top of my head, even though Doc Louis is one of my favorite characters in gaming and there are others but....

Even I don't want to remember Other M.

Do you want a list? In the thread, people brought up a bunch of "PoC" characters that are in Smash already, but they are hand waved away with various excuses. The Villager from animal crossing defaults to white and palette swaps don't count. Gandorf is evil, and only 1 in a roster of 75 isn't enough. They don't mention what is enough. Inkling is a palette swap and doesn't count. There's also some :autism: about their skin tones not matching their amiibos. Rodin from Bayonetta is an assist trophy and doesn't count. All the light skinned non-whites don't count. The list goes on and on.

They try to think on who should be added and settle of getting Twintelle and Misango from arms and Elma from Xenoblade being added as the only way for the game to be "diverse".

But it was never about that. As one guys says-
I think people would prefer a character who IS black/brown, rather than just COULD be black/brown.
Having the OPTION isn't good enough.

Let's be honest. The reason they are doing this is because Nintendo said they were not going to be political, but they also know Nintendo's in house translators at Treehouse are forum regulars who lean far-left. As in the OP of the thread @TDILindsay posted-
I know there are Treehouse people in here, so hopefully this reaches them soon.

If it wasn't for their connections to Treehouse, this would be another Cyberpunk REEing session. But because they think they have Nintendo's ear, they are going to try and push as much diversity as they can. I won't be surprised if all the usual game sites start releasing articles about how Game and Watch is racist.

Inkling is a palette swap and doesn't count.
Inklings aren't even fucking human, they're literally squid people who can take on human-like forms when they feel like it. Even their skin tone is their own fucking choice.

And ultimately it doesn't matter because they'll never be satisfied. If all the human/human-like characters suddenly became black or dark brown they'll bitch that there aren't any muslim characters (but fuck other minority religions like Hinduism and Buddhism). Put all the women in hijabs and formless potato sack-like clothes and now it's problematic that there aren't any trans, genderfluid, non-binary, genderspecial characters. And after that it'll be no physical disabilities, and there's no mental disabilities either, and they're not getting triggered all the time. In the end you'll get a "game" where everyone stands around talking about bathrooms and how "unsafe" they feel, they'll finally declare it perfect, and then walk away without buying it because they hate Smash and don't really like video games anyways.

They sure don't seem to understand that not every country in the world is America levels of cultural mishmash. Japan is the worst place to look for diversity because it's very homogeneous and they have their own ethnic minorities they can deal with if they wanted to (the Ainu, Zainichi Koreans) or biracial Japanese people (hafu) which are more likely to appear. I imagine they probably can't tell Asians apart anyway and only care about skin color.

Even if Sakurai caved in and added black people to Smash they'd just complain about how these black characters are weak and screech about racism anyway

Seriously, why is this a big deal?
Because they gotta get their righteousness out on display. They gotta prove they're morally correct. They gotta gain God's favor... Wait.

That's make me remember Megaman 9 when they put the first women robot master and people where talking about how she died so easyly with the buster.
IGNs Call of Duty Ghosts podcasts were the best.
"CoD doesn't have women, this is sexist!" Adds women. "In CoD Ghosts you can stab and shoot women, this is problematic!"
