Nintendo Switch 2 (WIP) - For the Soytendo consoomers to speculate about the successor to the Switch, recently announced for 2025.

That's a good point but holy shit does it reveal a lot about the state of the industry. I think In read somewhere there was already market data to show that $70 is slowing the sales of video games. I don't think the industry will be able to make money if $80 is the cheap option. The whole thing has been on a decline since 2022 and those target prices means people just won't buy games.
This kind of shit reminds me of the North American comic book industry. It's been pointed out that at one point your average Spider-Man or whoever comic was less than a dollar, kids could buy in bulk. and of course, those were the days when comics had some mainstream relevance.

Then the industry got full of itself, decided it was "art," started printing issues on expensive paper and charging five bucks a pop for a sixty page pamphlet.... and of course, sales dropped off (the actual content of the rags didn't help, either). Why would I pay $5.99 for part 1 of 12 when I can get a full paperback novel for the same price? And then of course graphic novels are always premium items as well.

I've always thought this was the true reason manga overtook comics: because they were affordable, not because they were necessarily better. You can tell me all you want that Batman And the Art of Breathing In Space is some sort of highbrow epic, but when I look at the asking price of $60, then realize I could get ten volumes of Detective Conan for the same price....

I imagine a similar deal will happen with gaming. Suddenly all these expensive games will start to flounder in sales, meanwhile cheapie games are going to get more and more traction. I find myself wondering if it will lead to the same place it landed Marvel and DC, where rather than Nintendo being a game company, they exist to just license out their IPs for movie deals in a last bid to maintain relevance.

I agree that Nintendo's biggest issue is pride, and as they say, Pride goeth before a fall.

Man, we're really getting a ton of backlash about the price, and people didn't really like the new Direct.

How can we make it worse?

agreed, I think the $80 price tag is retarded but this whole movement on twitter is fucking retarded, bitching like a fucking 6 year old over it is going to do nothing, nothing can change Nintendo's mind on this, you just come off annoying at some point
It’s retarded but not unreasonable when you consider everything else the console is doing. Which everyone going ‘WHY 80?’ never seem to get.

Myself I’d rather have none of that fancy shit and them just do what they usually do and put Switch 1 inside there.

The console are just better when all the fancy shit is scaled back and things are cheap.

My bad, how could I not treat the towering, intellectual juggernaut of the argument of "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" with the deference it's owed? Oh wait, I did.
Nah dude you're being a faggot. People like you is why Nintendo feels comfortable raising the price of a 50$ tablet with 10$ worth of plastic, as well as rereleasing their games at 80$, after closing down the shops for digital versions of their previous releases.

If it was EA doing this shit you'd have journos jointing the witch hunt. Instead it's cope after cope.

Lol, those prices are going to stay there even after the tariffs are gone.

Jesus Christ, look at that stand-alone dock price. Still a better deal than charging 50 or whatever dollars for the Switch one dock (which was just a fancy plug) since this one has actually computing chips in it but that doesn't mean I will like it or buy it.

What else is there to expect out of a game-specific Direct?
-Here is the game
-This is how it plays
-These are the game modes
-Here's social shit nobody cares about
-Did you rike it?
The #1 main issue is that Mario Kart 9 doesn't look drastically different then Mario Kart 8, which has been the Mario Kart for fucking the last eleven years. MK8 also wasn't that drastically different then MK7 so if you're going to charge $80+ dollars for this thing on your $450+ system - it should look really amazing from some kind of perspective.

There needs to be some real and actual innovation and advancement and the direct could have focused on that (but didn't).

kinda retarded that nintendos invitational pre-order shit doesnt start till the May 8th but retails is the 24th of this month

You have entirely changed the subject of what was being argued in order to farm stickers from people who weren't paying attention to the actual conversation. You weren't arguing that the prices are bad, which I'd agree with, even if you're being hyperbolic to the point of profound mental retardation, you're arguing that nintendo's GAMES are worse than EA and Ubisoft's, and the entirely untenable claim that gaming journalism somehow has a pro-nintendo bias, and furthermore that no one actually likes nintendo's games, but they pretend to because gaming journalism is just so pro-nintendo. Again, if you actually believe this, I reiterate my previous comment telling you not to breed, but I think you most likely have that covered already, so keep up the good work.

14 dollars for motherfucking joycon strips, this is some mr. krabs shit. though honestly they have every right to be cocky considering how much their competition (aside from steam) has been floundering

Holy fuck, where did the time go? I feel old as shit.

Can confirm. Going from 7 to 8 was easy as piss, probably because it's using the same engine. It wasn't like going from N64 to GameCube or even GBA where I had to relearn things.

It really, really helps that you can be a subscription to the magazine that all of the manga comes in is 2.99 a month digitaly. And that is if you want access to everyone. You can just get it for free and that will give you the last 7 weeks of everything they publish for free.

Marvel and DC can’t compete. They are round about 8. So to get both would be about 16 a month.

3 vs 16 is really not that hard.

And again, you can just read everything for free.

16 or free, I wonder what kids will pick?

It’s really not a surprise manga overtook,
