This is wrong, they just changed it for the initial play through. Subsequent play throughs have the original outfit unlocked and wearable. Unless you mean R, which they didn’t include for some reason even though it is less revealing than her first game outfit.
Seems to have been pushed forward by the success of the Mario movie, /v/tards call it "forced soul". It doesn't particularly irk me (I think a shakeup was inevitable after the NSMB style stagnancy), though I haven't been a fan of the new VAs. The reason they replaced diddy with pauline (and why diddy isn't in mario kart world) is I imagine a move to purge the Rareware influences (a move driven by Miyamoto first and foremost); Also explains the change of DK's design to more closely match the original's. May seem a bit far fetched, but I'd urge you to investigate Nintendo's interactions with RareWare and Argonaut Software and draw your own conclusion on the matter.
I think the reason I feel this way is that Pauline's design in bonanza gives me similar vibes as purah in botw (and that was straight up a goddamn loli, I will die on that hill).

I think being weirded out by botw purah is far less of an admission than pauline, given while botw purah isn't necessarily sexualized, she doesn't act like a child either for the obvious reason that she isn't one. Makes me want to throw you into a woodchipper far less than if you look at a non-sexualized child character who acts like a child and immediately think "sexy".
