Not-E3 2020 Thread

Coronavirus cancelling E3 is the best thing to ever happen to Nintendo. They had no games to show off this year so it would've been 2008-tier.
>Be non-political company
>Potential showstoppers (Metroid, Zelda, etc) won't be ready until 2021 at the earliest
>Conference occurs week before Floyd getting zucc'd, putting all their employees in a compromising position.

You know for a fact that Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft and random 3rd party devs would've taken a knee and a minutes silence on stage to pay their respects, and Nintendo declining to do so would've been taken a racist dogwhistle

Yeah no they donated to BLM and did a bunch of shit with gay parades before.

They've already bent the knee once, it will happen again.

PC Game show's opening was pretty bad, and nothing major was announced as far as new games went.

I've seen speculation that it'll be around the PS3's launch price. This is why people are complaining. Considering the economy right now, don't blame them.
They're looking to undercut Microsoft again. Microsoft hasn't announced their price either for the new Xbox. Nothing in the PS5 as far as hardware goes is going to jack up the price to PS3 levels. It's still an estimated 400-450 bucks. It's basically a game of Chicken.

The Backwards compatibility is all software emulation and not hardware so they're not even having to stick multiple boards into the system like the PS3.

If they're supporting PS1-PS3 games those will be emulated, supported PS4 games will run natively in hardware. The Playstation and Xbox are basically PCs now, they both get a new AMD CPU and GPU and won't have the old backwards compatibility problems when it comes to hardware, it's changes in the underlying software/OS that could really mess things up. It seems like Microsoft have an advantage there, with full XB1 support devs won't have to do anything for their games to run on the XSX, while Sony is requiring devs to [do something] so that upcoming PS4 games can run on the PS5.

That already started. There's been a whitelist since late last year of the mandatory ones that have to work with the system out of the box. But after a specific point this year every PS4 release had to be able to run on PS5.

But Xseed was able to do it for the new remaster of Memories of Celceta so it can't be that time intensive.

I know this is sort of a thing every year, but I can't believe how shitty many of the games revealed this year look, at least in the PC Gaming Show. The DayZ guy's new game looks exactly like the game from the Law & Order gamer episode, and that isn't a good thing. The souls clone showed a full boss fight with no music, for some reason, and there were several trailers which were just some dev talking in his normal voice over gameplay, which only serves to bore. I expected... more.

Is there a list of games that were announced at the PC Gaming show? I wanted to watch that thing but I saw that they had some weird robot and a fat guy on the set.

How the fuck does the PC show always suck where there are so many games that actually do come out on PC?
I hate the PC Gaming show because they're redditors trying to be funny. Also Greg "I want that little boy" Miller managed to insert himself into the show.
As for the games, it's either indieshit or stuff that will be dead on arrival. Most of the games that will sell are also on consoles and will appear "first" on Sony and/or Microsoft's event.
I wondered how they even managed to get their game to be a part of the presentation, alongside so many other AAA games with enormous budgets.
I've heard that the writer used to work for Kotaku. Also given that Sony got closer to California, it's not really a surprise.

One thing I miss about old E3 (and similar events) was the hall where all the obscure and weird games would sit out waiting for the occational journalist to come by. That's were you got weird, obscure Japanese games and controllers that could simulate the sensation of touching fur. It seemed to disappear as journalists focused on AAA only.

More E3 meme nostalgia.
Rip Kentia Hall, now the parking garage.

Ngl I'm even more excited for this. Music sounds pretty great. I'm a bit iffy about the faces since the earlier gameplay but they don't look too Andromeda tier. Probably won't be full release till mid 2021 though.

Since Bloodlines 2 is looking to be a pile of turd I need this one to cope lol

Gloomwood looks really cool. It's great that low-poly/ low-rez texture is a legit art style now because games like Thief 1 & 2 have an atmosphere that I don't think can be as easily replicated with modern graphics.

I guess that's part of the reason I feel dead inside when I'm watching these trailers-modern graphics haven't impressed me in a loong time. Neither does modern video game music, for that matter. Why do all of these triple A games sound the same? It's that same boring orchestral 'tension' music, do people actually like it?

I'm surprised that people are shitting on the games in here. I can guarantee you that the exclusives revealed today are already far better than what Microsoft has lined up for its year one, even setting aside the fact that all of their games are going to be backwards compatible with the One and thus won't be able to pull off the admittedly very small gameplay changes that next gen was supposed to bring (gameplay that needs instant loading like Ratchet and Clank morphing and a camera that doesn't always direct itself into the floor twenty feet in front of you so the console doesn't have to process more stuff at once.) I won't be picking up a PS5 anytime soon but if they were coming to Switch I'd look at Ratchet and Clank, Horizon, Spiderman and maybe some of the new IP if it reviews well.

They aren't all for me but with very few exceptions (that NBA "trailer" belonged on the widely hated Microsoft reveal, in my opinion) the games all looked good. Sony has put a lot of time into getting its first party studios in order and the amount of games coming in the launch year looks to be miles better than last gen's offerings (after already dominating MS for the whole of this generation in regards to first party releases.)

Having said that, the console still looks like a vagina, the controller like a children's toy, its still going to cost more than the Xbox while being weaker than it and Sony's version of Gamepass will still be a pale shadow of the real one. None of that matters though, its all about games as it always has been and Sony looks set to dominate on that front.

What is even confirmed for launch year? I honestly can't think of anything outside of Spiderman. I don't think Ratchet was given a date (and frankly I don't give a fuck about Ratchet because it looks like the awful boyscout reboot Ratchet), Horizon wasn't given a date, GT wasn't to my knowledge, Project Athia is a game with "project" in the title from SE so it'll probably never even come out, and DeSR wasn't given a date either.

According to Wikipedia and cutting out multiplats: Bugsnax, Astro's Playroom (already present on every console at time of purchase,) Deathloop, Godfall and Spiderman: Miles Morales. But if you go a full year out from launch then most of the 2021 titles would be launch year too.

Thats pretty good for launch. No BotW there but if Miles is a budget title that would be a pretty good deal for people who didn't own a PS4. PS3 had Dirt and a few flecky turds, PS4 had a PS3 remaster and Knack.

From my understanding, pretty much everything on ps4 is going to be compatible.

It just needs a minor update..
