The Belt is also a Southern thing in general, or at least it used to be. White or black, there is a generation of adults who remember getting their ass beat with a belt if they stepped out of line, and if they really misbehaved the parent, usually the father, would also include the buckle when beating them. If the kids ever start getting too rowdy, the dad just has to take out his belt and start snapping it, to "put the Fear of God" in them.I don't know if this is quite the same thing, but since we're talking about weird shit in black families that nobody talks about and is somehow tolerated, I vividly remember being on Tumblr, back when I was a good little libfem, and seeing how many black people on that website would talk about the existential terror of 'the slipper' or hearing the phrase "Ah'mma gettin' mah belt!" or whatever, and just laughing and joking about this, like it was totally normal and relatable and justblackpeoplethings that nigger parents apparently routinely beat their children and being like

I think that trend largely died once the millennial generation became parents themselves. There's a lot less spanking, and ass whoopin', and corporal punishment these days. It's for the best, I'm not really convinced that it does all that much good, especially when used on girls.
