I think she played Lara quite well, because she wasn't just eye candy, but intelligent as well. Lara Croft was based on Rhona Mitra's features.
This is what Lara is supposed to look like, and Hayley Atwell has her features as well.
I'm more concerned about the plot about Lara feeling 'white guilt' and 'fighting against colonialism' when she's hunting for artifacts, the same way Indiana Jones got that lecture in The Dial of Destiny. All the RE characters are hot but the women are turned into borderline sex dolls. Some of those unlockable costumes are outrageous. Here I show you the most sexualized male costume I can find, vs the standard offerings for just one of the female characters:
Men were bitching that in the remake, Ashley Graham has a smaller rack and you can't upskirt her with the camera. They were also complaining that she got sexually harassed/demeaned less.

Alexia Ashford is fully naked in Code Veronica, and her brother was a proto-troon.
I'm also misremembering that it was a mod showcase that made the re6 characters with those costumes. The newer games you can make everyone naked, including Mr. X.
I did like Sheva's Red Riding costume, it's the best one. Re5 and Re6 get crazy with the costumes, but the characters are fully clothed in other games. Remake Ashley is also a better character because she isn't screaming half the time for Leon.
