In Spain all women keep their surname, which is definitely better than the lunacy that is losing your actual name in favour of your husband's, but then the kid gets two surnames: the father's first, the mother's second. So the names that get passed down to the children are the men's names still. You can change the order when you register the birth, or change the order of your own when you grow up, but as you can guess barely anyone does it, only a few daughters with deadbeat dads who want to go by their mother's name.

Apparently in Portugal the first surname that gets passed is the mother's. As it should be. Good for them.

I am an earphone wearer when I'm out and about. Because I like my tunes. It seems to enrage men a lot, though. I wear earpods with very thick obvious, vibrant-colour cords too because I'm too afraid to go wireless lest a moid decide I'm really just ignoring them. On a slightly related tangent, I recently had a conversation about changing surnames after marriage; I said that if I ever did get married then I wouldn't bother changing my name because because a) what's the point and b) why the fuck SHOULD I be expected to, when no one would expect my hypothetical husband to do likewise? I'm becoming blackpilled the longer we spend in marriage counselling. It's like.... Before, I could put a lot of things down to ignorance. Like, "no he just doesn't know how dickish that behaviour is, gotta let that one just roll off me". Now, we spend ninety minutes a week with him explaining at length to the therapist that he knows these behaviours are cuntish, but he has Reasons and they are Justified because it makes him feel more secure and more emotionally stable. And yeah, he knows the effect these behaviours have on me but ehhhh gotta do what he needs.

I sit there thinking, it was better when I thought you were just a stupid bastard. Finding out it was all quite deliberate is really making me have feelings that I didn't want to have.

I'm not sure whether the endgame of the therapist is to have me accept that I have to live with some real cuntish antics because he's emotionally fragile, or.... I don't know, get pissed off and call time? I have no idea where we are going with this. I don't feel we are working towards a goal. I do not appreciate sitting for ninety minutes a week hearing about how the world revolves around his feelings and I'm an NPC in my own life. He has individual sessions for that.

I don't think I should be coming away from marriage therapy feeling like this. I don't come away from individual therapy feeling like this. Sometimes I feel punch drunk, but I feel like we're getting somewhere. Even if I have to walk into Mordor to get there, there is a goal.
