It's free on Steam, so you don't have to take anyone else's word for it.

That said, as someone who never played SS13 before but wanted to give it a try (I couldn't with SS13 since there's no Mac release), I found it utterly confusing. There was no tutorials or anything and I had no idea how to do even the most basic things. Maybe I'll try it again some day, accompanied by YouTube tutorials or something.

Congrats that's the starting experience on SS13 too.

I actually played it yesterday after looking through this thread again and it’s a lot more feature complete than when I last checked. There’s actually a “controls” window ingame so it’s a lot easier to figure things out than in ss13, and while it’s missing a lot of features it’s more than enough to have a good time in a round. It’s basically ss13 lite right now. And that’s not mentioning the upsides, which is much less latency, a pretty cool actual physics engine, and not having to use byond.

does anyone know about the pedophile drama that's all over the subreddit right now? I just checked it out of curiosity and they're up in arms about something but I'm out of the loop.

No clue, chief, but given that it's the SS13 subreddit, there's always some interserver community drama happening once a month or every other month.

Pretty sure the "pedophilia" episode's happened more than once before too at that. Fuck it, call shuttle.

"Skyrat" (furry ERP server) players are trying to take down "Splurt" (a different ERP server) because "Splurt" has no real age verification and allows players to praise Hitler.

Oh it's about that? His stated goal was to have a less-faggy, less-PC version of every big codebase hosted to prove that people preferred them. Allegedly he picked the codebases based on player numbers, and Skyrat is the biggest server on the list, or one of them. Naturally that got the janny types up in a frenzy because the popularity of a server without them in it horrifies them. The first time they tried to get rid of him they had someone get server access and then break everything on the service so it went down. That didn't work for obvious reasons.

I'm surprised they're still trying to get him canceled though. It's byond. You can't even DDoS people's servers down on byond, and getting codemaster and blowing the server up was only a temporary setback (and even /tg/ has had that happen before). Trying to get a byond server owner shut down due to anything but lack of interest has never worked, not a single time in 20 years.

Sadly the EU server seems cucked, haven't seen the US one yet. It's actually bretty gud right now. Very barebones, with two traitor roles available. But I'm hoping it grows nice and fast.

Those are just the basic rules word for word even the US server has. Going to assume the server you visited was also low roleplay, and had the No erotic roleplay rule(thank god).

But yeah the little I played is fine, it's lacking a ton of stuff, but it is still just in early alpha so it's expected. Everyone I've met on US servers have been very chill.
