One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Sounds interesting enough. And considering that we’re about to go on a long break, seems like a good chapter to stop on before stepping away.
Yeah, obligatory screw Redon though if those are the only bounties.

The Loki stuff is interesting. Does it make him a potential enemy, or more likely, is it a viking strongest remains thing?

Considering this is Luffy we’re talking about, it’s more a wuestion of “who’ll be the first person to offer Luffy food or tell him a sob story that gets his sympathy?”

Honestly, I’ve started to develop a headcanon that before the final war, Luffy gets called out for being so dense and simple-minded, and it’s drilled into his thick head (or at least an attempt is made) to tell Luffy that the stakes are astronomical (or at least that things are things are bigger than “this person you care about is about to be executed” which was the setup of Impel Down and Marineford).

@ShitLurker Well, Gear 5 being a goofball is the Sun God factor since that god was said to act like a fool, along with Luffy’s general carefree attitude. I have to imagine that any further power ups and how they affect Luffy will depend on whether or not it’s analogous to some historical figure like Joy Boy. Otherwise, it may be like the other gears where Luffy is in a state of “alright, no more playing around. Time to kick this guy’s ass.”
I honestly think Oda just wanted to do something fun and that's the end of it. You can justify it however you want, but Oda wanted the greatest power to be Looney Tunes and I admire him for it.
As for the Gorosei, I have to wonder if what happened on Egghead just Oda doing what he did at Marineford in an attempt to show a preview of what Luffy has to go up against in the future. That or the Elders were caught on a bad day.
I do think it was definitely intended to be a "this are the baddest motherfuckers around" moment, but something was honestly missing. Luffy should have taken more hits, or one of the monster trio crew members should have taken a proper beating (that bandages would have fixed up). Just a something. I also think adding them all at the same time made it too chaotic and with just Saturn maybe he could have made the Gorosei seem more like a force of nature.
As for Oda’s break, it could be both health and planning. Dude is about to turn 50 and he’s talked about how he’s got the ending down pat and sticking to it (unless somebody in Japan is able to predict it, I doubt that), so it seems it’s a matter of being able to stick the landing and tying up all the loose ends when Luffy discovers how they’re connected and not a moment sooner than that (at least that’s what I assume Oda is doing).

Besides, if anything happens, I believe it’s been said that the higher ups at WSJ and Toei, along with every editor Oda works with, knows about the ending (and most likely got an NDA to sign) so there’s a contingency plan if Oda can’t keep going for whatever reason.
Probably a bit of both. I don't doubt Oda has a perfect idea of how he wants to end things and all the major beats he wants to hit before getting there. His biggest danger is just getting bogged down going into details of things, though he certainly smashed the accelerator with Egghead. I do hope he lets the story and characters breathe, the last couple of chapters have been a treat and I miss more of that even if it's not giving me the deepest lore all the time. Hell, I miss so much more inter crew interactions.

@ShitLurker yeah I’m willing to bet Oda wanted something simple and fun with Gear 5, But I was just thinking about how the Elders talked about the Gear 5 form. The whole thing about Luffy is that he’s this man of destiny and he either doesn’t know that or he does know and just does not give a shit. At least Goku Understood the weight of the form he had gained being more than just some mere power up. Would it even be in Luffy’s character to say something similar? Closest I can think of is Enies Lobby.

Naruto doesn't really have bad ideas, just bad executions. I stand firm by that assessment. All the problems about it could have been fixed with just a few corrections here and there.
100% This.

Naruto is generally good right up until the end of the Pain arc.

Honestly, all the talk of “edgy” comes down to 1. Gear 5 being based on Sun God Nika, a guy who played the fool to make people happy, and 2. Luffy’s carefree attitude and obviousness to the reality of the real power he has, along with his obliviousness to the grander endgame beyond something simple like “save Robin” or “save Ace”. And this is coming from somebody who thinks that the treasure on Laugh Tale is something that’ll give Luffy some kind of power boost.

Sorry for bringing this up all the time, but I just keep going back to Whitebeard’s speech at Marineford, and how it’s made pretty clear that Luffy is most likely this prophetic individual Whitebeard is talking about. Yes, the person bearing the weight of history to challenge the world to a fight that’ll consume and change the entire world…is a dense, simple minded, thick headed dumbass.
It's been clear how Luffy is characterized idk why people seem to think he is or should be different. He wants people to chill, laze around and eat that is his dream where everyone can get together eat and never have to worry while chasing their dreams. People expected Gear 5 to be some Dragon Ball transformation where he can punch the bad guy through several mountains while looking serious and cool and that is what they got but it's in Luffy's point of view. His powers are meant to be goofy and weird hell in-universe people comment on how bizzare his Devil Fruit is especially compared to guys shooting fire, controlling ice and are basically made of light.
I loved all the people poking fun at the super edgy Gear 5 concepts before its reveal.

"You pushed me too far! I'm going GEAR DEATH!"
You gotta remember the type of fans for this can only think one way. They don't understand when a series starts and another one ends like expecting DB rules in One piece is like watching something like Spongebob and thinking it should be like Family Guy ot something because they're both animated cartoons. I know these types who want everything to be the basic shounen thing of how fights are guys screaming at each other getting world shaking new powers so they can punch each other across the multiverse. That shit is cool but there is nothing hat every shounen has to abide by the set rules they are all given because nearly all of them run off their own logic evne when they show similarties.

yeah that is for sure the thing with Luffy since if you remember he is friends and allies with some of the most pivotal people who have changed the world in their own ways. He wants to do things his own way even if he had a golden ticket he'd rip it up or tell you he doesn't want it like how he didn't wanna know where the One Piece was from Rayleigh since to him it would make his adventure boring.

The Human-Human fruits don't seem to follow the conventional Zoan rules, though Chopper might be the exception because he was an animal to begin with (and he regularly experiments with the functions of his seldom-used other forms).

i think that if luffy were to get another form it would just be gear 5 but with more stuff. like how gear 4 has snake man and bounce man.

Gear 5 is the Awakened form.
Given that Nika is a "God" I would say that to be able to transform into the Full Form you have to awaken it. (yes I am saying Sengoku awakened his fruit)

The only way for us to really know how Zoan works with the same species is that you would have to find an animal fruit and feed it to that animal. The only two humans we have seen eat a Human Human Fruit..were both Mythical and neither has shown the various forms that Chopper, Lucci and Kaku have.

It could just be that Mythical Zoans are weird in general given that they have additional powers connected to the Mythical stuffs.

Marco showed off some Logia style damage prevention through his regeneration.
Devon has shapeshifting on par with Mr 2's fruit.
Kaido has weird weather magics.
Yamato has Ice Magic like Kuzan.

But we are in the final saga.
Elbaf is not going to be the final location so we're not in the final arc.

We've got the end game in sight but there's Elbaf, the ponygryphs, Blackbeard, Imu and One Piece all still to get through at a minimum. Basic shonen rules states there's going to be another form in there somewhere.

It can and will happen because Luffy is rubber.
Hot damn I'm so happy that gear 5 is a goofball and not nigger armament luffy.
Oda showed how stupid an all-black Haki state is stupid with Pica,
