New Game

It looks promising, it introduces a new villain, Bowser appears to act as an ally in this one, it has an interesting plot, removed the shitty battle systems from the last two games, and even has new worlds for once.

But I am still kind of skeptical of it. Not much has been presented yet on how the gameplay actually works, and we still haven’t been presented much in terms of characters. We all had that much hope in Color Splash and look how well that turned out.

>removed shitty battle system
I need a source on this because while I don't see stickers/stamps I'm going to assume it's the same shit but iterated upon because IS has been obsessed with that mechanic since SS.

This better be a fucking traditional Paper Mario game that doesn't take the Sticker Star method and goes back to the Thousand-Year Door shit.

But it doesn't really look like they'll ever go back to the styles of the first two, which is fucking shit.

I think what they’re trying to do with these games now is the same as what they do with the Yoshi’s Crafted world games, where the only real thing going for it is the aesthetic and the use of different art styles, which was never meant to be the focus of the original to begin with.

parts of that trailer definitely have my interest, the battle system and the large environments especially. but after two god awful paper marios in a row I'm skeptical. color splash was pretty but just as a brainless and soulless as sticker star. I haven't trusted intelligent systems to make something I give a shit about since the Wii/DS era anyways.

I need to see more of this battle system before I make a judgement to purchase or ignore. That short video looks... okay-ish? Maybe. But it also looks like the tutorial battle or something, so I'd like a bit more complexity to be displayed.

Prediction: that was not Princess Peach, just her body. In the basement you'll find a room full of the cut-out faces of all of the missing characters who are fine, just annoyed that they've been stuck down there and who want to get back to their bodies.

The highly-refined action command system from Sticker Star (the only good thing in that game) seems to be back. Which is good.

That sucks. Paper Mario had some of the best RPG gameplay EVER. So unique. So vibrant. Hell, I even liked what they did with Super Paper Mario. I wouldn't even mind if it was that style, but the Sticker Star style is gay.

Even after they removed some aspects of Sticker Star, they still replace them with things I’m a little worried about, but look like they can work if done correctly. The rotating battle system worries me the most, but I think it has some degree of potential.

It does seem to be making steps in the right direction but Im worried that this won't be a full on return to form. For me to consider this game a success the story must be better than the last two installments and the gameplay must be better than Super Paper Mario.

I hope they include another Five Guys joke in the game just to get under Zoe Quinn's skin (deserves it after what she did)

damsn why nintendo must use a gimmick rather than classic turn based battle. It may be good but it look like nintendo just do it for the sake of ''originality''

On the plus side look like we will have a real kinda dark story
If only they have a more diverse NPC like the originals

I want to give this a chance and be optimistic but it reeks of Color Splash and Sticker Star.
I gave Color Splash a chance and it was really just "Sticker 2.0".
Modern Paper Mario is just gimmick testing grounds and whacky paper puns but I can give the game so far credit for not mimmicking SS as blatantly as CS did

Another paper mario game, another one step forward two steps to the side improvement from Sticker Star. The development team's constant avoidance of a tried-and-tested winning formula is bordering on spite by this point. I really don't get why they feel the need to reinvent the wheel in every game.

Call me a pessimist but I don't have very high hopes for this one. I can't really put it into words, but there's been a weird stylistic change that happened around sticker start that I think really changed the series for the worse. Characters got these chunky white outlines, bosses are basically doors that you need a specific key to get past or you just die, shrinking the roster of mario characters down to the most generic ones. There's also this weird sense of ironic eye-rolling almost borderlands tier smugness that seems to have crept into the overall dialogue since even SPM which I got sick of real quick. I get the feeling that these guys dont even want to make these games anymore, which makes me wonder why they just dont give the keys to someone who friggin does.
