I've heard dumbasses talk about how the Mongol Empire was ackshually good because it had religious tolerance and a good postal service.

Implying:
1) The Orthodox population of Orthodox Russia, Muslim population of Muslim Iran, and Buddhist/Confucian population of Buddhist/Confucian China needed tolerating.
2) That people enjoyed the postal service more than they enjoyed the company of their loved ones before they were slaughtered.

Have also heard people shill for the Aztec's universal education system (it was basically 100% religious indoctrination, folkways, and nationalism, it was the equivalent of Sunday school more than modern education) and for the Vikings being good guys striking a blow at those damned Catholics (who were minding their own business in their own lands).
Ironically the Mongols fucking hated the jews and the Muslims because of kosher and hal'lal offended their religious sensibilities.

What, things like no cheese with meat?
No the ritual slaughtering of meat so iirc the Mongols offered meat to eat as a sign of friendship but because it wasn't slaughtered correctly jews and Muslims refused to eat it so that pissed off the Mongols

It used to have at least some limited variability because the different FTL types played quite differently. But then they removed those, so the early game became even samier than it alreayd was.
Why did they do away with the different FTL features? Those were actually quite fun.

Because any fun, or possibility of possible depth and consequence of your decisions - like, for example, getting chokeslammed by a species with a radically different ability to pick and choose fights to you - is anathema to current paradox devs. Stellaris is about two UI changes from being a mobile game at this point.

The opening hour of the game at this point may as well be automated or simulated to have preset star systems for empires, maybe a few systems unclaimed between each empire, empires that spawn next to each other having a chance based off the difference between ideology to be at war. Would make it far more fun. As it is now you just endlessly move science ships and slowly build starbases trying to find the best spots to take so you don't lose all those systems behind it. Very repetitive. Having open borders is also one of the worst possible plays at least at the start because the AI (or you) can just rush in passed chokepoints and claim those systems anyway, with no way to prevent it except being there first, even if it is well behind the real border.

CK3 is so dumbed down that it actually got ported to console. I'm not surprised there's a shitty mobile Stellaris game, complete with time wasting bars before you can progress. Really makes the streamlining and AI control of Vicky 3 incredibly suspect. Remember when strategy games were understood to be to complex to be played with a six button controller and it was just expected that you had to have a bit more than a casual mindset to play them? Is it not enough that a two feature DLC is priced at $20? Do they really need that console moolah?

So next hoi4 DLC was announced.
Outside of reworks of peace conferences and airforce . They will add rework for Italy. Focus tree for Switzerland and Ethiopia. Another content for countries that will do nothing in Ethiopia case it will be annexed in month or two after game start.

Because they wanted to focus on "terrain" and "chokepoints" in order to add "strategic depth" or some such nonsense that didn't actually materialize as a result.
The only strategic depth from forcing hyperlanes on everyone is that you simply make war on the AI squatting on the choke you want ASAP. Gets tricky if you're playing something memey like fanatic pacifists but it doesn't really alter the game drastically past that.

Also completely fucks the AI. Can't tell you how many wars my Federations lose because they sit around my fleet and systems when they're the ones getting invaded, even if they are evenly matched. They don't build any starbases in the boonies so it's a five year trip there and back.

I just vaporised the enemy fleet, I'm repairing and replenishing my ships. Go conquer shit while you can.

No expanded Austria or Albania focus trees despite being very relevant to Italy during this time period? Shameful missed opportunities paradox.

Also, it's been how long since the last DLC? They can't do more than copy pasting the tank designer and three trees?

The cynic in me would suspect that Paradox deliberately planned to extend the implementation of features that could easily be added in years ago. Surely they wouldn't?

It's allways sad that when it comes to Paradox interactive, they have great foundations for games they otherwise put low effort into. This tends to bite them like with Imperator Rome, yet they don't seem to learn.

What do you gamers think of the new Stellaris DLC Overlord?

I think it's pretty neat but my favorite part of this update, in general, is the fact you can nominate AI to become custodian which makes the endgame much more interesting.
It’s ehh. I never bother with the hassle of dealing with aliens, just glass their shit and terraform or gene mod my own dudes.

New enclaves are cool, but not worth 20 bucks.

They really need to start adding some content to the middle game instead of constantly finger-fucking w/ minutiae that only turbo autists get excited over.

That and fix the end of month lag which never gets less irritating.

The end game lag makes it virtually impossible to play on anything larger than medium galaxy imo. It sucks ass.
