Meanwhile Stellaris' custodian team would update old DLCs, and now HOI4 is giving you DLCs to update your DLCs.

I once played a game of CK2 multi with guys I had met after just starting college, all three of us in the HRE. They were both shocked I had managed to become Duke of Transjura as the starting Habsburg count in the first few years. They were too busy trying to seduce each other's wives to think of saving up money to buy mercs.
10/10 for historical realism GOTC.

We seriously need a UK and US rework, maybe a whole rework of the Commonwealth as well.
The USA's focus tree is indescribably bad, but any serious rework would involve getting into the mess that was our domestic politics, which would violate one of the key tenets of the modern left by denying FDR's sainthood. God forbid the KKK have their historically-accurate hateboners towards the Axis powers!

Yeah I have sperged out on that either here or on the TNO/HoI4 modding thread but the USA tree is a complete and total ahistorical meme. Even the historical paths are shit. There is pretty much no mention of the German attempts at swaying US opinion, and the UK infiltration of the government is straight up ignored. There is no mention of the NKVD influence on FDR's cabinet and political scene of the USA or the fact Mussolini was quite popular among Italian Americans. Both the Commie and Fascist paths are total fucking memes that make zero sense.

The modern western left does not deify FDR (at least not anymore). Their judgement of a historic US politician is solely based on their stances and policies towards non Whites and FDR has a lot of black marks like the Japanese internment, keeping out Jewish refugees and maybe is the reason non White WW2 vets didn't get access to GI loans.

That's something I'm ignorant on. Was it really that they hated the Axis, maybe because of the dominant Catholicism, or was it more 'fuck that Old World shit'?

Does anyone think the Czechoslovakia stuff is the final hoi4 dlc before hoi5?
Not even close. Rolling in MTG shows there's at least one major DLC for the US and UK coming, and even wager it'll happen the same time La Resistance is rolled in as well - which in turn unlocks France for yet another DLC. Probably a year or two before hints of HOI5 appear, especially given Stellaris is also up for a sequel and is currently Paradox's biggest strategy game cash cow.

It's starting to feel pointless to buy the dlcs if they are eventually going to be implemented in the main game anyway and replaced with more dlc.

They absolutely despised Germans, Italians, and Catholics in equal measure in favor of a focus on Anglo-American culture and heritage to the point even some Leafs thought the KKK was a neat idea and founded a few chapters focusing on loyalty to the King and Empire.

Okay, to explain the KKK properly, you had three completely different ones with a substantial break in time between them. The first KKK was founded during Reconstruction to act as a secret police force to keep the uppity niggers and the Yankee carpetbaggers in line, but after the people in it started acting like the niggers they were supposed to be controlling the founder ordered the whole thing dissolved, disavowed any and all connections he might have ever had with them, and devoted the rest of life to advancing black equality out of sheer disgust at how his fellow whites acted once given even a bit of license to misbehave.

The second one came after Birth of a Nation was released in theaters, which being a Hollywood "documentary" took some creative liberties with the facts, including the KKK being dressed in robes and capirotes when they had actually never worn them. So you get the second KKK formed based around how that movie portrayed them, complete with robes and fancy ceremonies and silly titles, as well as a general ultranationalist bent instead of anything exclusively aimed at blacks, so you had chapters scattered throughout not just the South but also the Midwest, Northeast, and as mentioned above even a few distinctly Canadian ones.

The last one is the one we all know and love since certain groups and people never shut up about it, and it had the goal of the first with the ceremonial trappings of the second, and it was effective enough that the Feds needed to intervene to break the whole thing apart.

There is small nod towards NKVD influence in Commie branch.

But yeah it is retarded.
Remember when it was possible to annex entire USSR with single click.

The CK3 dev diary on the silk road dropped... And of course they made the silk road about their shit innovation system instead of trade. All it does in terms of "trade" is giving a flat boost to tax income or a scaling percentage depending on the situation.

You just can't hate Paradox enough. An Asian DLC could have been the perfect DLC but only after they had finished adding all the required systems in other expansions. China as the final capstone after adding bureaucracy, theocratic, republic, trade, development, and innovation reworks could have been amazing.

Instead they're rushing into it with far too much on their plate. This DLC is going to suck ass mark my words.

I have no interest in playing CK3 but am I looking forward to the disaster that the Asia DLC/update will be.

My dream of a full North-Afro-Eurasia CK2 will never be fulfilled because of nu-Paradox fans. The worst part is it would be alright in terms of performance with modern CPU's even with CK2 being 32bit and being locked to a single core.

I totally checked out of CK3 for good when they announced they were adding China. I just knew that this early into the cycle was going to fuck it up, and lo and behold, looks like they did.

It makes me sad because Ck3 really has amazing potential. They do have some genuinely good ideas they just never capitalize on them.

Adding a travel system was really revolutionary and could easily make the entire game more interconnected. Sadly it's only used for a few repetitive activities and people still teleport around.

The stress system was a great addition, it steers you into role-playing as your character without forcing you to. But then they added 500 sources of removing stress so you can pick the optimal choices, stress be damned.

Leveled traits were a great idea as it could allow your character to grow over time instead of being fully developed at 16. Unfortunately only unimportant traits are leveled. Education and personality traits would have been amazing. Watching your character grow from a careless bookkeeper to a medieval Warren Buffet by learning from mistakes would have been amazing. Same thing with character traits, there are levels to it. The sadistic trait could have range from being cruel to outright sadistic. There's a big difference between using fear as a tool, like Saddam Hussein, and getting pleasure out of causing pain, like his son Uday.

I could write more but I can't be bothered. Two steps forward, five steps backward every damn time.

What I find interesting is how many southern generals supported racial equality and so forth after the war Forrest Longstreet and so forth.

Racial equality in the armed forces is a different thing from racial equality in general. Army segregation must have been hell on the logistics and probably caused morale issues.

By their very nature Armed Forces are already segregated, since everyone goes through training regiments and classifications that go along with it.

Probably has some to do with honor as well. The fact army blacks got shafted out of the G.I. Bill was probably not exactly seen as honorable to a lot of them.
