Today the Tinto Talk is about a couple of the generic disasters which can strike a country. Glad to see Decline of the Empire seems properly brutal, hope it can actually cut down major powers, as that is a big problem in EU4.

Pretty bummed out that the House of Saud isn't on the map in 1337, so I'm gonna play an EU4 Najd campaign. Any tips?
Edit: Never mind, I got absolutely buckbroken by the Mamluks in the first 8 years. IT'S OVER

Najd is a pretty hard start yeah, probably gonna take a few tries to get it going. You could try and turn into a horde since they are tribal, and that would let you do some disgusting blobbing and secure the Jihad achievment.

Oman is pretty fun too, they can make LOADS OF EMONE thanks to their special government, and that government is actually culture based so you could also take them over as Najd and flip to it.

Nigga... I don't know all the EU4 meta-strats, it's the only one of the 5 main Paradox game bar Stellaris that I can't get into. I actually had a pretty good start by fully annexing one of my 4 province neighbors to my south, I was gonna push on to the Rashidis to my north but the Mamluks declared war on me. The guide on the EU4 wiki says you can secure an alliance with the Mamluks immediately but that must be outdated since i can't secure an alliance with them OR the Timurids or even the Ottomans. Shame, since Najd seems like a nice simple start that can blob out like Hungary in HOI4, I didn't even have any problems with money like I did with England.

Edit: OK, annexed Jabal Shammar, then got an alliance with the Ottomans, I should be safe from the Mamluks now.

Key word for now, the Ottos will turn hostile once they get large enough and start looking to expand into Arabia proper. Use your time wisely to be ready when they eventually break the alliance. You can use the hellish terrain to your advantage.
Conquered some smaller Arab states around me, Hormuz was the only one left and I was allied with them, they held Qatar, the UAE, and the Eastern half of Oman. They were allied with Afghanistan and another Persian nation but I deathwarred them with my standing army and mercs, I was wondering why I was taking so many casualties in battle until I realize mercs contribute to your force limit, so that was fun, and they kept camping out on the island of Hormuz proper and backsieging me using naval invasions since I had no navy, at one point they occupied half of my nation while I sieged down Muscat but the their allies white-peaced out, eventually I mopped up most of their army and resieged my sieged provinces including my capital and stole a bunch of land off them.
It took 13 war exhaustion and a bunch of loans taken out, but worth it in the end. Unfortunately, now I'm surrounded by Qara Qoynlu and the Mamluks, but I can't rival the Mamluks for some reason, starting to have problems with money now too despite steering trade towards Hormuz and Basra since I'm trying to build up my army, and I also don't have access to cannons yet cuz Muslim tech group.

I haven't played Najd yet but Mamluks are the least of your problems with Ottomans in the neighborhood. Turks are 100% going to turn on you once Mamluks are dealt with because they get claims on everything. Probably best to expand to horn of Africa(+further beyond to take the goldmines) and India asap and hope Ottomans are retarded this time around.
Admittingly it's easier start than Najd but took me 3 restarts to get Ethiopia game going because Ottomans came knocking.

I don't wanna minmax by sweating hard to rush East Africa and India, I wanna RP a bit. I think I'm gonna ally with Tunis to gangbang the Mamluks and get some Levantine land for myself after I unite the Arabian Peninsula, then use the Ottomans to beat up Qara Quoynlu for me.

Then again, the Turks are 800+ ducats in debt.

I think we all have that one pdx game we cant really get into. Mine's HOI. As demanding as Vic2 or EU4 were to learn, I always felt rewarded for doing so, and learning how the complexities worked made the game more engaging as a result. I dont know why, but HOI just feels like endless layers of stuff that only serve to distract from the goal of fighting WW2. Maybe I just dont have the correct autism gene.

Update on the Najd game, it's boring. The Ottomans declared war on the Poles and I joined them, then Qara Quoynlu declared war on me and the Ottomans refused to join. I got frustrated of savescumming so I just gave myself 500 ducats through the console and hired mercenaries and took all of Iraq from them. Then tried taking Hormuz, they had 3 allies and they were so annoying to fight, literally 1k infantry stacks carpetsieging all of my land. I think tried taking on the Mamluks who were fighting the Ottomans, and I grew so bored of trying to savescum my way through 13-25k battles that I just yesmanned the conquest of Hejaz. I'm gonna drop off the campaign, maybe start a new one as the Ottomans or Muscovy to see if those'll help me learn the game mechanics more.

Horrible news for Ironman players from the current ThePlaymaker stream, the game now autosaves on certain events such as war being declared to prevent random crashes from removing that.
CK3 and Stellaris allow achievements to be earned without ironman, and the only reason to savescum WITH ironman is achievements, so I don't think that would matter. That is, if they do make it in EU5 like how it is in CK3 and Stellaris

I like the flavor, but Russia literally assimilating everybody and having infinite manpower/stability is kinda silly.
Russia is kept in check by shit income, unless you abuse TCs, but if you do that, of course you will have little to no problems. In single player nothing at all holds an experienced player back.
You have to remember that PDX is now the studio that is chasing the Youtuber/Reddit/gape mouth humor that started with HoI4 and was propelled to new heights with CK3
Absolutely. Seeing the "strongest potion" event in CK3 made me want to kill myself to stop feeling overwhelming cringe.

CK3 doesn't deserve the name at all, like Vic 3 they're not proper successors to CK2 and Vic 2 and are merely skinwalking for brand recognition. At least EU5 might be suitable for a 1066-1936 mod I guess.

You're looking at this the wrong way. Starting near the Turks as a rising power is an amazing opportunity. You can either try to ally them - start building up relations and currying favors with them asap to build up trust and extend an alliance as long as possible - to use them as a battering ram against your regional rivals (doing this will also give their European enemies more time as you're the one directing when they get to go to war with other islamic countries) or ally their immediate rivals and organize a coalition (Mamluks are great for this, the Timurids/QQ can also be used with a degree of reliability) and exhaust everyone. I've done both with Georgia starts, the most important thing is to make neutering the Turks with well-timed wars your highest priority. Don't deviate to trying to do large landgrabs before that, make sure the Turks stay exhausted and their regional competitors aren't much better. Go to war with a country you want to conquer while you're in the middle of a war fighting with or against the Turks if you have to.

Like any other eu4 player i desire a byzantium rome run but for the life of me i can't manage that economy. The problem is like the major autist i am i only play the netherlands in grandstrategy games (i dream of my colonial empire returned) so any other nation i fucking suck. Any tips or ideas?
