Now you say it, true. I think it's mostly the mountain scape though. There's a Mother 3/Earthbound 64 vibe to them...

He looks alright in battle at least and he's meant to be humanoid, but yeah, 6ft or so would make a bit more sense wouldn't itGrimmsnarl is even worse. Its design implies it would tower over things, but instead it's only 4'11.

But then you have mons like Charizard and Dragonite who are still some of the most popular, and there's a childhood fantasy there of being able to ride them and fly around. I think being cute is more important than being pint sized to appeal to their market personally. The patrician opinion is that Pokémon are better when they’re child-sizes creatures rather than earth-shattering monsters. Really lends itself towards what is largely a childhood hobby, occasionally taken to its extremes by older enthusiasts, in-universe (which is objectively better than the franchise ended up IRL).
I just assume ‘pokemon looks like it should be big’ is all because we are children and think they are huge. Pokemon are actually small but we are smaller. The patrician opinion is that Pokémon are better when they’re child-sizes creatures rather than earth-shattering monsters. I really don't wanna defend this too much... but mentioning the kitsune/tanuki thing like I did in the previous post now makes me wonder if the read the writer had in mind was that these Pokémon were in human shape. At that point you're supposed to imagine a mermaid or something, and while that's weird, I don't think 20 years ago there was that much of a stigma against mermaids.Ok, but in this story some dude went:

and that is more than enough to sully the family name and give the kid issues.
His mom even abandoned him, pretty rough upbringing.
Right, but Charizard being 5”07’ great, it’s still a foot taller than a nine-year-old which would have been the target demographic for Pokémon, and the demographic that would historically collect and fight bugs. The idea of adults taking the hobby to an extreme past the practicality of it being a hobby is way more interesting than “fight big animal.”But then you have mons like Charizard and Dragonite who are still some of the most popular, and there's a childhood fantasy there of being able to ride them and fly around. Ashes was 6 ft 6 but yeah. To be honest I'm not fussed on the massive mons outside some legendaries like Rayquaza (Eternetis should be big too but 67ft or whatever he is, is a bit much, lol).Right, but Charizard being 5”07’ great, it’s still a foot taller than a nine-year-old which would have been the target demographic for Pokémon, and the demographic that would historically collect and fight bugs. Nah, most Pokémon should come up to an adult man’s shoulder, tops. They should operate on dog-scale, not elephant-scale.Still though for a fully evolved third stage, 6-6.5ft isn't that crazy I don't think.
Yeah that's why I said third stages. Not all of them, but you've likely trained them for like, 30-40 levels most of the game by the time you get there, so it makes decent sense they'd be burly.Nah, most Pokémon should come up to an adult man’s shoulder, tops. No, even third stages. Breaching 6 feet should largely be the realm of legendaries. It’s one of the things gen 1 got absolutely right, beyond ‘mons thematically large (Venusaur, Kangaskhan, etc.) or are serpentine; but those should be exceptions rather than the rule.Yeah that's why I said third stages. I agree your average pokemon should be animal sized.
The most popular third stages in gen 1, excluding ones added later, are all 5-7ft except Gengar and Alakazam (and Gengar is just short of 5):No, even third stages. It’s not that being small appeals to kids more, it’s that being smaller than adults, but larger than children, better fits the perspective of scale for what is largely a children’s hobby in-universe.Fair enough to have a preference, but I don't really think it's ever been true that the small Pokemon appealed to kids more. It's more about cute round features or distinctive body parts like tails IMO.
Penny went out of her way to exploit and harm Pokemon with her "friends" before throwing them under the bus, and she hacks into the school network; yet despite these things, everyone praises her even when she berates Arven, a guy who gets pissed on by everybody. Greta the tranny rewards her for hacking into the network while Arven is treated like a loser. While Arven lost his family and almost lost his Pokemon, Penny's biggest problem was her dad being protective and telling her to stop being an ugly antifa bitch. Her friends aren't any better because they're whiny, insufferable faggots that don't justify their actions (at least in RS, the bad guys wanted to "save the environment"). While Team Rocket or the RS bad guys would really fuck shit up with Mewtwo or Kyogre, 5 whiny, unlikable cunts are a joke compared to Paradox Pokemon popping out of nowhere destroying the Paldea Ecosystem. I'll agree with you we could have used a new evolution for Evee.Penny is pretty great all around. Not giving her a new Eeveelution was a crime.
I get that but I don't think 6ft is that extreme of a height. There's a power fantasy to Pokemon too and the big, strong ones have always been popular too. It depends on the creature too. Some of the fish look ridiculous, same as the bugs, as big as they are - but then Haxorus just looks silly at his height. I realise they can't be full Kaiju size but at least Tyranitar/Baxcalibur size makes more sense to me.It’s not that being small appeals to kids more, it’s that being smaller than adults, but larger than children, better fits the perspective of scale for what is largely a children’s hobby in-universe.
I joined a terrible discord and copied all that text for a measly 5 bucks?@Nenorocitul de nenorocit, I'll send you a $5 consolation prize. Let me know in PMs if you want it in BTC or as a gift card.
We should've had one in SwSh... We've had them on every even-numbered gen so far: espeon and umbreon in gen 2, leafon and glaceon in gen 4, and sylveon in gen 6! By the same rule, we should've had a foil for sylveon, since the other eeveelutions have one they're weak to (besides Jolteon but shhh). They could've even made a joke out of his the British say aluminum as "aluminium", and named Alumineon!Penny is pretty great all around. Not giving her a new Eeveelution was a crime.
