From observation I will say the second a thread gets on featured on the front page there is a high chance things will go downhill fast in terms of on-topic posts. As for why this is, I would say its because everyone sees it and wants to get their hot take in or something like that.

I don’t mind the stickers. I hardly ever hand them out unless I like something. The point is there is an army forming to merely remove people of different thoughts on subjects from threads so the threads really aren’t there for discussion but merely more akin to support forums for ideas.
